While We Wait: The Next Generation

Muscovite succession was a family affair, and it didn't get fixed completely until the family died out (actually, even after that we still had the Pseudo-Demetrii) and the smaller and less quarrelsome Koshkiny-Zakharyiny (boyars rather than princes) took over. All that anyone could try to do until then was to limit the familial appanages as much as possible and kill/imprison all nearby relatives in brutal ways, usually preemptively. Though, I suppose the fact that this was actually doable would speak for it no longer being a Mandala state. The earlier Rurikid principalities definitely were closer, but tended to devolve and disintegrate in place of having dynastic shifts, though those happened too.

I'm afriad of all the Lore i'd have to learn to make sense of it. Seems you guys are having a lot of fun though

Shame about the title, Ffh Nes Ii looks really wierd.

FFH NES : World of Possibility?
ImNESI: Fall From Heaven II?

I dunno, i'm odd about my OP's

Also, I can't find any stats and I can't read the map easily...

I'm am SURE these are MY failings. You don't get to update 14 and 1600+ posts without it being a really good NES! :)

I don't have cIV

I've played the new FFH mod, and it's rather good. I liked the whole doomsday counter and so forth. It was definitely a good way to kill a few hours.

I wanted it to be called I'maNES, but that's just me. (Oh dear God I'm so funny!)

That certainly would have won more attention from me ;)

Well, ljNES was a natural thing for me since a number of people have been calling me lj for short from time to time, and since I like that nickname. Like I hope that Abby, EQ, NK, Nwag3 (That short name is awesome to boot), Bj and das like their shortened names too.

Generally I either get Thy (from Kal,) a horribly mangled rendition of Thlayli from almost everyone else, and an actually correct spelling (!) from a very small number of people. :p

Also. ljNES stats? Are somewhere?

I usually spell Tlaliy correct. :p

Actually I have no problems with it when doing it seriously. :) Or I could just begin calling you Yjæsuæo.

Black box'd. :) Of course you don't know what my term "Influence" is, or what it does, or how much you have when you, yourself, are nonexistant; your "Influence" is as well nonexistant; you might as well not have been told. Therefore you don't know, or are lacking the capacity not to grasp something without essential understanding. Same goes with "Squares", since they're kinda not there when polygons aren't. But you still got them.

So, yeah. Black box'd.

Black box? What's that?

Black box? What's that?

"Black box stats" is a term invented by Birdjaguar that described a situation in which you had only a vague idea of your nation's entrails; that said, if you for example knew the economic output of your industry by the look of the official stats displayed for you while the "real" stats are known by the Mod (Fx if 20% of the said industry comes from iron mining), therefore he knows more about your nation and you have to investigate economical issues instead of just knowing that the said mines are failing; or, on the other hand, you have to avoid the technical details about your nation when having a general overview of it, making it easier for you to control when having it simplified. :)

Or in short, lesser details revealed, more details hidden, easier to control, difficult to know exact details. There.

EDIT: I actually think we should add such a section to the NES Wiki if anyone is still doing that.

Black box? What's that?
"Black box" stats in regards to NESing is an approach to play where players provide spending orders that go into a computational model to produce the end of turn results "automatically". Players do not have full knowledge of how the model works so they cannot calculate the effects of their spending ahead of time. Hence the "black box". Many NESes use a more "transparent" system where players can calculate the effects of spending pretty accurately: spend 2 EP and raise your economy 1 level etc.

I found that when I play in a game with very a "transparent" set of rules, I tend to spend my time planning and figuring out how to improve my stats to the specific levls that I think give me an advantage. I can usually map out several turns of spending in advance.

That is harder to do with a "black box" system. My hope is that with BirdNES players will focus on spending in character as if they were the king and get a sense of how things work over time. If you know the full effects of spending, you don't have to think about it, all you have to do is decide. If you don't know the full effects, then smart players do think about things before they act. They ask themselves questions. I would prefer that players think about their spending orders rather than just calculate results.
