RISE OF THE ANIMALS
NOTE: I speak as one of the humans spared by the destruction, in really deep bunkers, with simple satellites for observation of the chaos above.
In 2012, doomsdayers fore casted the end of the world as we know it. While scientists and other logical folks put it off as blasphemy, the ancient Mayans knew better. They knew and had told the world through their calendar that the world as we know it would end on December 21st, 2012, at 21:21:21. But, what they didn’t tell us was how. And how, for many, was the main question. We had to find out the hard way.
On December 21st, 2012, the animals struck. Contrary to our belief, animals were not dumb beasts for our manipulation. They were in fact, sentient and clever organisms with the capability to feel emotions. Specifically, hate and anger. The animals were sick and tired of the mistreatment they had, and abhorred the destruction humanity had caused to the planet. The toxins spewed, the oceans destroyed, continents dismembered by war, and the greatest threat to all existence, global warming. And thus, a new conspiracy was born. It was planned for ages that the uprising would occur at that exact moment. And so it had.
Humanity had the upper edge in the preliminary confrontation. In terms of technology, their firepower blew up the waves and waves of animals that rose to challenge them. But what they did not count on were the small organisms know to Homo Sapiens as bugs. Yes, bugs. Bugs were an essential aspect to the animal plan, as there were quadrillions of insects out there. What humanity did not count on were that enough bugs put together could easily block all of a battleships’ guns. Enough of them in a strategic position could destroy an entire fleet. And as planned, went. The United States, European Union, China, India, and most nations, except for Sierra Leone, lost their navies to these successful and enigmatic menaces.
Then the air forces went. Waves of locusts rose and blocked up plane radar and screens, thus causing them to crash into one another. The greatest thing of all, however, was the destruction of the world’s oil. The Middle East was invaded by a special ops division coordinated between the camels and the 4th tiger regiment. In effect, all personnel there were killed, oil fields lit on fire, and a new species of bacteria was put to use.
And so began the huge destruction. Animals, upon receiving their signal, began their onslaught worldwide. The signal, ah the signal. It was the greatest enigma of this entire mishap. Apparently, the signal was an eruption of Mount Mazama, Mount Pelee, Mount Vesuvius, Yellowstones Mountains, and Mount Tambora, all at the same time, so that animals on all continents would know when to start. How the animals managed to pull that off is a great mystery to those that still live.

a) The newer NES map is bigger, so will reach the boundaries of your system memory sooner.
b) What the heck do you need 16 million colours for with map making? Sure if you're doing some epic art work it might be useful, but on a map where at most you'll have a few hundred distinct regions?
c) File>Preferences>Environment, then rack the tile cache up to what your system can handle. Also: relevent help file

Technically speaking, it's not much worse than the premise of The Happening. Fortunately, the NES forum does not have millions in its budget. 
If you know it sucks, why are you working on a sequel?

I'm astounded. That's still a better plot than several alternative history novels I've read as well as several movies. I mean, you should still have humans around; there's secret bunkers and so forth, surely some would be ok. I think the whole story is a convincing argument for why we should all support the War on Nature.

What do people think of the FFHNESes by the way? I feel like being part of them makes me some kind of NESer ethnic minority, almost all our players are new to NESing who as far as I know have not participated in other non-FFH NESes, and we have no welknown NESers in either of them. This is not really a disadvantage though, as I think they are bringing in lots of new players that may at some point join main-stream NESing.
If anyone is interested, I am running the ''next'' FFHNES, under the name EkoNES: Fall From Heaven, which I will be starting a pre-thread for at some point in the not too distant future and will run when one of the current two NESes slows down or becomes inactive.

sp: Quite original, although extremely unplausible. Although the base facts are correct, such as the bugs and their ability to block out naval guns, I highly doubt all those volcanoes would erupt at the same time. And while animals do respond to volcanic tremors, they don't suddenly start killing people.

By all means, we should nourish sp for our own maniacal uses so that our NESers can continue their world conspiracy and then feed him to the penguins.
