mmm yessss because a peace prize established by a man who invented dynamite was indeed always free of any irony before that dastardly nuke-reducing anti-proliferating war-ender obama was selected for it

Good point ^^ BUT, Obama has expanded the aerial bombing of certain regions. Sure he ended the wars and closed Guantanamo, wait no LOL :p

u r indeed korect dat ter is no irony in an armsmaker becomin a peace advocate, not one drop woe is me i am so dumb pleez insult me sum moar 2 prov your superiority

not like that outstanding recipient of the 1994 peace prize yasser arafat

Sorry, I wanted to make sure I was intelligible to my audience.

It still was not invented for warfare. <snip> Nobel found the misuse of his inventions in terrible warfare as reason enough to support such a prize, but it is not in anyway ironic.
Nobel owned Bofors and was one of the people instrumental in making it one of the largest arms manufacturing companies in the world.

Yes, but Symphony at no time mentioned that or ballistite. I'm sorry for defending dynamite as an industrial product. Nobel did turn Bofors into an armaments industry, but it is not in the least bit ironic that he would support peace because of it. There is a distinct difference in supporting warfare and putting a superior product on the market, such as the case with ballistite. Or do people that make any form of advancement have to be violent pro-war capitalist scum? Oh Lordy Lordy, the oil and steel tycoons are pro-war because their products were used to great effect in warfare! Oh Lordy Lordy, medical researchers are pro-war because their advancement made recovery from injury easier!

Yes, I did not at all include a link which went directly to the Wikipedia section stating that:
Wikipedia said:
According to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, his friendship with Bertha von Suttner, a peace activist and later recipient of the prize, profoundly influenced his decision to include peace as a category.[3] Some Nobel scholars suggest it was Nobel's way to compensate for developing destructive forces. His inventions included dynamite and ballistite, both of which were used violently during his lifetime. Ballistite was used in war [4] and the Irish Republican Brotherhood, an Irish nationalist organization, carried out dynamite attacks in the 1880s.[5] Nobel was also instrumental in turning Bofors from an iron and steel company to an armaments company.
That never happened! Not even once! Because I didn't mention it! It was merely in a link and links aren't real.

And yes, you're correct, there is nothing morally questionable or ironic at all about making a fortune off of the proclivity of nations to murder one another with your products, steering your business in a direction specifically designed to profit even more off of that proclivity, and then using your vast wealth to establish an organization designed to promote peace after your death. Nothing ironic at all! Did you also know there is no irony in Hamlet and Oedipus? It's true!

No one has seriously advanced this idea in the history of forever. That's also true!

An inventor has to make money, Symphony, but it does not mean that his inventions were intended for such brutality. To assume out of nothing that because a man advances armaments that he is pro-war is asinine. Men have to make money to continue their work, but that does not, in any way, mean they must support or enjoy the work or purpose they are working for. A man can invent a gun without the personal joy of murdering a human being with it. Nobel sold to governments, but that does not mean he supported warfare.

Well at least Symph and Lucky are keeping sarcasm and irony out of this debate. That leaves the issue much clearer for everyone else to understand.

Are you making some kind of "intents are all that matter" type speech again? Because irony doesn't revolve around what he wanted, it revolves around what he did. And what he did was make a lot of money on guns and explosives, guilt-tripped himself, and set up the Peace Prize to atone for it. That's ironic. I don't care if Nobel was intellectually pro-war, because it doesn't matter to that point.

I see you're having fun losing sight of this point and creating strawmen to argue with because you think this is a masterful troll or some such, but maybe you should just go back to calling me "dumb" some more, since it seemed more your speed and was working out better for you.

What he did and what he wanted, eh? You seem to know what he thought. Elaborate.

One-trick pony has one trick.

I'm sorry, I was not aware that dynamite was invented solely for the purpose of warfare.

I'm sorry, I was not aware Obama was elected solely for the purpose of perpetrating anti-peace.

The same reason the man who invented a peace prize was an unrepentant war profiteer. :>

This is what escalated this conversation:

You baited Lucky by talking down to him. Are you honestly surprised by his reaction? At least he hasn't gone into "facetious internet ebonics" mode.
