yea but at my school a kid drew a swastika on a piece of paper, then a teacher saw it and then a week of detentions was arranged...

Well, you could have said that you drew a symbol used by the finnish air force in WW2. And the origin of that is not from the nazis (it came from sweden).

It's just in my country, that the first thing which comes to my mind when I see it, is Hitler, Holocaust, death of 40 million people, destruction of Europe etc.?

But OK, let's use this symbol, it's nice, isn't it?

Blame Hitler for perverting the symbol. We've been using the swatstika for hundreds, if not thousands of years. I doubt it's going to be stricken because of political correctness, although most places have decided to use a reverse swatstika now. If you were to take away symbols which have caused millions to die, why not take away the cross or the crescent moon (Islam) first? And yes, it is nice.

Back when I was in high school, I drew a swastika on the blackboard and the teacher sternly told me to erase it. In fact, I didn't draw the Hitler 'swatika' .
I don't know if you know it, the Nazi 'swastika' goes in the opposite direction of a 'good luck' swastika'. Therefore, it is the opposite of good luck.

They go either way, but were changed after the mid-20th century.

good article, thanks. what is interesting is the falun gong symbol, basically, it is the combination of Taoist ying-yang symbol and the buddhist swastika. further showing that this religion is full of bs and rip off from other more established religions.

Religions rip off of each other all the time, look at:
Judaism > Christianity > Islam > Bahai

Hinduism + Islam = Sikhism

and to an extent, Hinduism > Buddhism

This building was designed specifically for Google sattelite maps.

It looks crap from the ground as a compromise.

Hinduisim had it before Buddhisism

Thats horrible, I know that it's a religous symbol, but the most recent use of it as a symbol led to the massacre of 60 million innocent people in Europe. Thats horrible, and the building should be destroyed

Dont know if thats sarcasm, but since it doesnt sound like it, i'll carry on.
Its a shape. Your getting offended by a shape, that only looks like a swastika from directly above. Its hardly representing naziism.
And WW2 didnt kill 60 million civilians. That might be wounded, and that would probably include all soldiers who you cant call innocent.

When was the building built? Before WWII the swastika was just a random shape like a circle or square. If it was designed prior to the war, the architect was probably just looking for a shape that looked good. If it was designed after the war, when Nazism's full evil was exposed, the architect was probably an ex SS member. While it was originaly a shape intended to mean good luck, it was used by a group of people who started one of the bloodiest wars in the history of mankind, this charming group also murdered six million people in cold blood, because of this, it's not surprising that the swastika has bad connotations.

Sorry, but you need to look at the details a bit more.

I advise reading the rest of the thread if you have no clue.

1. if you are reffering to it's religious significance, I doubt that America converted en-masse to Buddism anytime in history, so most people have no clue about it's early religious significance and most people in America prior to WWII probably wouldn't think of the swastika as anyhing more than an odd shape, I drew swastikas all the time before I learned about the Nazis, and I did it becaue I liked the shape, but stopped when I found out that it was also a symbol for a gang of murdering thugs.

2. As for the SS member thing, that was merely a reference to the type of person who would design such a building after everything the Nazis were up to in the concentration camps was exposed, it could read white supremist or member of the Aryan brotherhood , or any other organization related to Nazism.

Hope this clears things up.

Swasticas are very pretty.
