Who makes a swastika building? i mean really...

It looks like a neat design for a building, just imagine.
I'd imagine the building was built by german engineers. After all, the swastika is the symbol for good luck in German.

No it's not. In Germany it symbolizes Nazisim. In Hinduisim and Buddhisim it's good luck.

Furthermore in Germany this symbol is forbidden!

Good luck symbol is four leaf cloverleaf. (one of them).

Does anyone know what this building actually is?

its actually 4 buildings that have been arranged in a way that looks like a swastika. The building is part of the officers quarters on Coronado. ( US Naval Amphibious Training Center). This is according to my brother who was stationed there. But he didnt remember it looking like that from the ground. I think we are getting a little far off topic here.

if you look at it there would be a great view from almost any room. so thats probally the biggest reason why.

Just a thought but was there a real point for people to be argueing here. I mean the purpose of the thread was to discuss if the pic was purposefully done, or not, and if so why. I dont see how this could degenerate into an arguement.

It's CFC, most anything degenerates into an argument ;)

That's a lie! :p
Anyway, im sure if we all wasted our lives looking at builings from the sky on googleEarth, we'd find some more buildings we can argue over. Shall we start with all buildings that look like a cross? Christianity has lead millions of people to there deaths! *runs from stampede of arguements.*

Here's a picture of a messershmitt Bf 109 used by the finnish air force (in ww2). Do notice the swastika in the side of the plane - the symbol is not tilted like the nazi swastika.

I think that the Finnish air forces would still use the swastika, if the nazis wouldn't have given a bad ring to the symbol.

Er, aaglo, correct me if I'm wrong, but the Finns were allied with the Axis powers in WWII, and that swastica is oriented like the Nazis' swastica. :p

The Finns were in an odd position during the war.
They started out Allied (as the Soviets invaded them while the Soviet-German pact was in effect), but when Germany invaded the Soviet union, the finns sorta tahnically became axis, by fighting against an allied Power (the Soviets), until a cease-fire was agreed.

That is not oriented like a Nazi Swastica. The Nazi Swastika is oriented so that if you drew a box around it, its corner would point down like a diamond. That one would have its side down if you drew a box around it. Look at the last page. They are different.

okay, I'll correct you :p

- Finns were not allies with the Axis powers, they were co-belligerent with the axis powers.

- The nazi swastika's lines are all diagonal, and in the FAF-swastika the lines are all horizontal/vertical, thus it's not orientek like the nazi's version.

- The FAF-swastika originates from the first aircraft of our air forces: it was a gift from a swedish gentleman (whose name & social status I do not know) in the early 1920's IIRC. The swastika was pictured in the plane, and thus FAF decided to use that as their symbol.

It's time to learn the diffrent swastika's you ignorant lot.

This is the famaliar NAZI swastika and no doubt all of you consider it bad

SWASTIKA.gif

This is the HINDU swastika it symbolizes good luck notice carefully the diffrences between them

Hindu_swastik_h.gif

This is the BUDDHIST swastika it proabaly means the same as the Hindu swastika

buddhist%2520temple%2520swasi.jpg

Now the next time you see a swastika you don't hav to ignorantly shout Nazi! anymore. Now you know the diffrences in apperance as well as meaning.

I like the Buddhist and Hindu ones. If we stop using Swastikas, than the Nazzi's won a long-lasting victory. I know it wasn't what they were originally going for, but it's still a victory for them. Swastikas had a 5 millenium history of a good reputation before Hitelr.

Damn Nazis! They took things too far! They ruined Swastikas, German History, Invading France. They ruined Fasism (which wasn't very great to begin with!) They ruined the already bad reputation for evil, JUST BY TAKING IT TO FAR!!!! All we ever got from it was a few good movies, and now most people know better than to invade Russia.

This was both a very funny post but also quite spot on in my mind.

The whole debate around the Swastika going on is similar the "Is Western Culture superior?" debate. It's a matter of perception and perspective. By banning it we shall be forced to pay head to a Eurocentric telling of the symbol, which places greater credit on the Nazi use of the symbol, and that is a sullied use.

If we keep getting touchy about the Swastika, we only credit the Nazis with a victory over our common consciousness. In doing so we also do a great disservice to the honourable and much lengthier tradition that this symbol has in Asia.

Those you are discounting it simply as a geometric shape are underestimating the power of symbols greatly.

and the folding flags was a joke. Maybey not a very good one. but a joke.
