Whom would you like to have as lead designer of civ 6?

I'd like someone who has a lot of experience in coding AI, since that's such a big problem for pretty much any strategy game (and so many people complain about it in Civ V). It should also be someone with a lot of experience in the genre, who understands the strategies well.

How about Blake?

It's about time Sid actually came in from the golf course and did some designing.

But I guess if Sid can't be arsed, than 'lil baby Jesus will do! ;)

epic game of warlords using blake's ai 4 years ago: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=196533

why didn't they implement this ai even back in bts? especially now with 1upt it seems like good ai coding is a must. the current ciV patch has improved this somewhat, but still not even close to what it could/should be. A good ai can make up for a lot of other game issues.

As awesome as that would be, seeing the massive amount of legitimate complaints and whining from Civ5's changes and bugs, I'd hate to see what it would be like if Paradox made the game (since their games are usually pretty buggy upon release too, but are so awesome once patched and the expansions are sweet).

True. But Paradox devs are creative guys who post regularly on the fan forums, listen carefully to suggestions, and openly discuss with people how is best to fix bugs and balance things. You're right tough, their games are often half-baked upon release. So perhaps Johan Andersson of Paradox is not the best choice.

I will vote for Rhye then.

I'd have voted for Sulla, except for two reasons.

1) That option wasn't available when I voted.

2) I am unsure how extensive his programming background is.

That being said, further iterations of this game would be clearly improved by having a few people like Sulla involved and listening to them.

.. neilkaz ..

There definitely should be a "me" option, I'd vote for it, as I'm an unfulfilled game designer ;) But actually I'd prefer to design Age of Wonders 3 :)

I don't know any of those developers other than Sid Meier and Jon Shafer. I liked Jon Shafer's work in Civilization V. He brought some necessary changes to the series, such as the erasure of unit stacking and the application of pretty modern graphics to a series that had traditionally lacked in the graphics department. He made great changes to the game, but we cannot ignore the fact that we must go back to our roots. Sid Meier created the greatest PC-based gaming series, and now he must lead this ship of Civilization again.

all of them except kael and sulla have been lead designers on previous iterations of civ. sid=1, brian reynolds =2, etc.

from looking at sid's history, it seems likely that he won't go with a past designer but will instead go with somebody new. and quite possibly somebody other than jon who has worked on ciV, especially if the inevitable expansions are well-received.

Soren Johnson seems to make sense; return to the designer of the most popular iteration and it would seem hard to go wrong.

Can't we wait until Civ 5 is actually finished until we start to talk about who should be the lead designer for Civ 6?

I would rather give Civ 5 another year or so as a chance to improve itself before I start to wait another 3-4 years for Civ 6.

I don't want to wait for another 3 to 4 years. I say scrap this piece of junk, and hire Brian or/and Soren to start developing 6.

Civ 2, original Colonization, and SMAC as well as a great RTS Rise of Nations...Ladies and Gentlemen Brian Reynolds!!

But they release games only on the base of fan request, like the new Crusader King II, or the ex mod Magna Mundi, soon a complete standalone game...;)

You forgot to add Jeffrey Briggs,, lead designer of CivIII :goodjob:

at least according to mobygames he was.

jeff and soren both designed cIII, but jeff is more of an artist/composer and less of a programmer. also, he pocketed so much $$$$ from selling the company to 2k that he has no need to do anything that he doesn't want to do (which currently means he's writing symphonies). he might make a good consultant but would probably not be great as a lead.

isn't it funny that so many here seem to hate cIII but soren got a pass b/c cIV is so highly regarded? and much of cIV's final beatiful state was due to alexman/shafer/etc in the bts expansion.
