So I pretty much hate Hillary, but mainly because she's very very very obnoxious.

What are some more substantive reasons to dislike her? Like what are some of her plans n' positions n' stuff?

Thanks

I'm talking about Hillary Rodham Clinton, btw, in case anyone wants to be cute.

Frankly, I do not hate Hillary. She is a very skilled politician and she gets a lot of unwarranted hatred for the whole "sticking by Bill" thing because people assume she is doing so for simply political reasons. There is not a shred of proof of that and I would much rather give her the benefit of the doubt on that score.

That said, her past political actions make me loath to ever see her become President. Her health care bill back in the early 90s, etc. Her use of the NON-office of First Lady as a political power position, and so forth. BUT, she has also shown as a Senator that she's pragmatic as hell and would probably actually govern similarly to Bill, with a centrist tack. Her attempt to forcibly nationalize our health care still scares me silly though.

In short, there is no real reason to dislike Hillary the person. Dislike her positions all you want, but her herself? Naw, cut her some slack.

Whats like her foreign policy n' stuff? When she talks about foreign policy it tends to be like "I'll be tough!" which is hardly helpful.

She does whatever she wants for political gain. Think about how quickly she can use the slightest smear story against Obama, and then lie about her "dangerous" trip to Bosnia.

As for her views, she seems really ungrounded about the war. One minute she's talking about withdrawing troops from Iraq, the next minute she wants them to stay. Depends on the audience, I guess.

Honestly? I do think she'd be pretty conservative on foreign policy. Nothing to back that up, really, other than just looking at her Senate career and noting how (again) pragmatic and not toe-the-line Democrat liberal she is, particularly on military and foreign matters. She only scares me domestically.

Yeah I mean I think all the political games stuff falls under the "obnoxious" category. I'm more interested in her actual policies. I have no idea what they even are!

The illogical gas tax holiday. She plans to take holiday the gas tax for consumers, and tax the oil companies profits.

Such a tax would just be passed onto the consumer. This from intermediate microeconomics. Policy proposals like that is why I dont like her. Hell, Mankiw and Krugman agreed about how awful an idea it was

Mister JH which candidate has the best plan for easing the gas problem?

Didn't she propose freezing interest rates for 5 years?

She has a firmer grasp on foreign policy and affairs than Obama though and probably more goodwill to work with by virtue of NOT being GWB or being a Republican.

She is for recognizing the mess we made in Iraq but staying there until the Iraqis are ready to defend themselves (whenever the hell that will be). Still, she is more flexible towards keeping troops than Obama and more flexible towards withdrawing them than McCain.

I think she'd sell America itself out if it meant she got to be President while it went down. She just wants it too bad. She proposes preposterous, abysmal ideas because they sound good to the morons in the general public. That kind of brainless pandering is dangerous.

It's not a matter of what I'd like to see done, but how I'd like to see it done.

But the reasons differ from person to person! VRWC dislikes her healthcare plan, and I do too, just not as much. (I'm more "Nah, no thanks," while VRWC is closer to "AH HELL NO" ;)) But last I heard, you favored universal healthcare coverage. (I believe the phrasing was something like "The fact that we're even debating the right to medical care shows how ****** up our society is." ;) ) So a lot of this really depends on what your political positions are.

I dislike her positions on abortion, school vouchers, healthcare, foreign policy, ANWR, and so on. Most stuff, actually. :p But I do think she'd be a better president than Obama.

Their positions are so friggin close to being the same. It's a matter of being able to pass them without a super majority in the Senate.

1) She voted for the Iraq war resolution.
2) She is pandering to the masses with this gas tax holiday- not a sound long term policy.
3) She is pandering to the masses with much anti-NAFTA rehtoric.
4) Her "universal" medical care appears to be just passing a law forcing everyone to buy it for themselves. Terrible policy if you ask me, and looks like a failing policy in Massachusetts.

That's my personal list, why I much prefer Obama to Hilary.

Because she is a woman and everyone knows women should stick to what they are good at: firing out babies, cooking and cleaning and looking after the men folks needs. A woman as the head of your government? I mean really, I'd leave my country before I even considered voting for a woman, let alone let one in power. I didn't fight and die in 5 world wars to be ruled over by a skirted bint with a power tip and ideas above here station... Women know your place!

Ok anyway humour aside, I really don't get why Republicans hate her so much, I mean it must be partly guilt by association with Bill, but it's not like she is Bill 2: this time it's personal.

You couldnt be more wrong. If anything, the reason Bill got to where he did was because of Hillarys support (and planning, machinations and etc.)

Bill was simply a good old boy and front man for her. Hillary was the political animal and power behind the throne. Always has been. She is by far more politically savvy and astute than Bill ever was.

Wait...Hilary Clinton was the power behind Bill? Never heard anything like that before. Then again, I'm a 90s child/2000s voter, so what do I know?

This won't really answer your question, but I don't know a single thing about Clinton's policy aside from universal healthcare. I'm fine with government sponsored healthcare, believe me- as long as one has a choice as to whether or not one can take it. If you want private insurance, go right ahead. If government insurance is cheaper, I'd probably take it, but if its lower quality, well....whatever.

I would suggest hitting her website, but that would mostly be biased. Wikipedia might work, who knows?

I don't think she'd be a better president because of her positions - as you say, they're virtually identical. I think she'd be better because I think she's tougher, and has more guts than he does. Obama seems like a wuss to me. Clinton has to be tough, because she's a woman; she can't afford to ever be seen as weak. Obama can be, and I think being so is part of his personality, so often he would be.
