Would you call the cops on your kid?

If they were smoking pot, drinking, or commiting a minor in family crime I wouldn't call the cops.

However if they stole a thousand bucks from me, were driving drunk, or smoking crack I definatly would.

Why would you call the cops if they were smoking crack? The last thing a crackhead needs is to get thrown in jail, instead of rehab.

Isn't it funny that right-wingers seem to be those most inclined to trust the state above everything else, even their own ability to manage their family problems ("grand theft" indeed, $1000)?

Or perhaps I should say: the most ready to call for a nanny-state to handle their own problems...

What? Even Libertarians agree that theft is wrong, and a limited form of law and order is necessary. This isn't a big government vs. little government issue, so don't try to make it one.

Felony grand theft is not a petty crime.

Where in my post did I say Grand Theft is not a petty crime? Quick answer, I didint. The amount for grand theft varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Don't slap around what YOUR jurisdiction defines as Grand Theft because it's quite different in the jurisdiction that I live in.

Only if they were seriously doing something wrong like some gang fighting or getting drunk and taking the family car out for "a ride".

Though for stealing $1000 from me? I'd just beat the hell out of them or something, certainly not go to the length of calling the cops. Plus, if I have a kid, it'll probably be because $1000 disappearing won't be something that's like "WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED?!".

So what is it in your jurisdiction? I bet $1000 is grand theft every where in the USA.

I disagree. Calling the cops on the kid for stealing $1,000 in cash is just silly and the wrong thing to do. Why waste the police department's time (and taxpayer's money) punishing your child for a petty crime that a parent can punish the child themselves?
I believe right there you said it was a waste for the cops to go after a petty crime. The crime being theft of $1000 dollars. You said theft of $1000 is a petty crime. And it isn't it is a felony. That felony is called grand theft.

So what is it in your jurisdiction?
Don't ask me, I am still sifting through all the Grand Theft Auto Games for the actual law.

I believe right there you said it was a waste for the cops to go after a petty crime It does not mean that I said that Grand Theft is a petty crime. The crime being theft of $1000 dollars. Sorry, I did not state in that post that grand theft is a petty crime. Grand theft is NOT a petty crime. I'm sorry to tell you, I did not say that grand theft is a petty crime. Quit looking for an argument.

So how mad would you get if I took $1000 from you? ;)

Oh, and by the way, CG: GTA (Grand Theft Auto) Game rule, but they don't use actual laws. :p

Very angry and will call the cops and bounty hunters to get yer tail.

 No, you did. You also said it was a waste of time and silly to prosecute.

1. Crimes with a victim that are not in the family, it depends. If it was a theft I'd insist they give whatever they have back and leave it up to the victim to decide what happens. If it is murder or rape or something like that then it is best to turn him in.
2. Victimless crimes like smoking a joint or drinking alcohol or something like that I definitely won't turn them in for. In fact in the case of alcohol up to marijuana I'd rather they just do it in the house so they don't get nicked. Harder drugs will probably get them into rehab.

I do not trust police. I certainly don't trust them to handle my child in the most beneficial way. Unless the crime is heinous they will probably end up doing more harm than good.

Sorry, No I did not. I did not say that grand theft is a petty crime! Look, let me make it clear for your thick head. When I think of grand theft, I think of grand theft auto. Not something on the lines of stealing of value of $1000.

Now quit trolling and looking for an argument.

Edit: FYI, I know what grand theft is.

Now quit trolling and looking for an argument.Stop what? Its not trolling to correct some one when they are clearly wrong.

Yet you had to look it up. So is it different in your jurisdiction? You'd have known if you really knew what grand theft was. And you wouldn't have needed to look it up. Also if you don't think stealing $1000 is grand theft you don't know what it means.

Sorry, I did not. I said nothing that you claim. I did not say that grand theft is a petty crime.

The way you are doing it, is quite trollish and argumentive. FYI, I am not wrong here buddy.

No, I did not had to look it up. I knew it long before you trollishly plastered that wikilink.

Again, I did not needed to look it up, I already knew what it ment.

I know fully well what it means here buddy. Stealing anything over $1000, is grand theft. AND BEFORE YOU THINK OF SAYING "yet you had to look it up", NO I DID NOT LOOKED IT UP, I KNEW IT LONG BEFORE THIS THREAD EVEN POPPED UP! IT WAS A SIMPLE MIX UP WITH THE DEFINITIONS THAT YOU DECIDED TO HARP AT AND MAKE A FEDERAL CASE OUT OF!

No, I did not had to look it up. I knew it long before you trollishly plastered that wikilink. So why did you say you had to get through the grand theft auto links? Why if you knew what it was did you not not know that that it was the same in any jurisdiction? If you knew then you wouldn't have been wrong in saying that it was different in my jurisdiction.

For some one who knew what it was you really didn't.

No

I was looking for what each state defines the min $ limit for grand theft. Not the definition of grand theft. Why if you knew what it was did you not not know that that it was the same in any jurisdiction? If you knew then you wouldn't have been wrong in saying that it was different in my jurisdiction I was never wrong to begin with.

Actualy, I really do know what grand theft is.

No

Actualy, I really do know what grand theft is.

Sure you do. That's why you called it a petty crime, had to look it up and didn't know what jurisdictional differences were or if there were any. But you were never wrong. No you were 100% correct. like when you called it a petty crime that was silly and a waste of time.
