Hmm.... Moving is not an option?

Not really. I have strong social and familial connections here, and outside this county there's nothing. I had once planned on moving, but the thought of not seeing my niece and nephew grow up, or not being with my grandparents as they pass on was enough to keep me. My grandfather just passed not a month ago, so I'm comfortably in the decision even if I am materially poorer for it for the moment.

I have total job security, decent pay, and a great deal of freedom in scheduling. I also have very very specialized skills that can be used approximately nowhere else.

Me too! I can go to a different employer, but that means moving to a different city. Moving gets old after a while.
