Would you support Texas in its secession?

Which side do you pick in the Second American Civil War?

Part of me ALMOST wants it to happen, so we can watch what a craphole Texas will become. Do you think the people that make Texas' dynamic economy would want to stay there after they leave the US? Do the you think the army of educated tech industry workers in Austin will stick around? The professors and administrators of their (really good) university system?

They would still have an economy because they still have oil, but their educated professional base would split, and every Ruby Ridge-living Ron Paul voting nutso would move in. Texas would be a pool of immigrant poverty and crazy weirdos. It wouldn't be nearly as good of a place.

I get that, I kind of feel the same way when I hear about Quebec separatism :mischief:

I wouldn't enlist in the US Army cause it'd suck having any more war crimes associated with that fine organization.

Either way Texas is no longer a state or a lot of Texans would be dead.

No matter who loses, I win.

Meaning that after the EU finally truly federalizes, you'll have people debating what to do if (for example) Italy decides they want out.

Won't be a problem. The idea of an EU-like union is relatively new, and the member states all have centuries and centuries of independent history. If the new treaty gets ratified, EU will have a mechanism allowing member states to legally leave it if they choose.

Anyway, I don't have problems with secessionism if it is done in a civilized manner and both sides reach a compromise. Example:

Czechoslovakia, 1991

Slovaks: "Yeah, revolution and democracy and all that stuff is all very nice, but it ruined our industry!"
Czechs: "That's because your "industry" was all heavy stuff used to produce weapons for the Russians. It had to go."
Slovaks: "Look who's talking, the snobby Czechs with their low unemployment and higher living standard. Screw you, we want to divide the federal budget fifty-fifty. Half for you, half for us Slovaks."
Czechs: "Have you gone mad?! You have 1/3 of our population and produce less that 1/4 of our national income, how the hell can you expect you'll get 1/2 of the earnings?"
Slovaks: "Either you give us that, or we'll declare independence!"
Czechs: "Fine, go!"
Slovaks: "... Uhm... *cough* On a second thought, perhaps some sort of confederation short of actual independence would be..."
Czechs: "You're still here? Get the hell out already!"

Sorry... didn't mean to support the breakup of the communist bloc.

I know how heartbroken you were over it.

Commie bloc? Me? Heartbroken?

....

No, I was talking about something completely different, but never mind.

It's your problem guys. Americans, have fun reenacting Sherman's march. Texans, have fun reenacting the Alamo.

So you're supporting a union between many countries when one country with two basically identical ethnic and linguistic backgrounds couldn't make it work after 80 years of unification?

Texans arent that stupid.

No, I wouldnt support it. Unless of course that support came in the form of being part of the invading army to throw the seperatists out on their ear, and reinstall some real leadership there.

What bases and weapons would Texas get if everything within Texan borders joins the revolt?

I dont think the federal units stationed in Texas would join it. So, right off the bat, they are going to have problems with enemy bases within its own borders.
