Wyrmshadow's Arsenal Ship

BTW, Wyrm, this is a great looking model with excellent anims. I kinda wish we had built these things. Looks can be damned when you can rain that kind of death down on an enemy.

My ship actually carries more missiles than were used in BOTH Gulf Wars.

One fix that does work for me, that isn't as bad as painting pixels, is to use Flicster to export the animation to 8 individual flc files. I then use Animation Shop to open the defective animation. I select the offending frames, and export them to PSP. I then copy and paste the original frames from my finalized pcx that I used to make the original animation, into the defective frame, then save them back into animation shop. I load the palette, select nearest color, set colors to 255, then I make sure the frame duration is zero. I save it, then I use Flicster to compile the 8 flics into the one Civflic again.

Of course to do all this, you need Jasc PSP and Animation Shop.

Sorry for threadjacking, but I wanted to offer up this fix option as well.

This is one good looking unit Wyrmshadow, it's nice to see some ships from you again, not that your work on the aircraft isn't greatly appreciated.

The mushroom cloud, is, amazing, probably a complex question, but really, how did you do that? It's so spot on...

Puts a new meaning into the term 'Missile Boat' doesn't it?

Well I'm sure you could probably understand it.. It's just a series of simple shapes.. spheres, torus and cylinders.. What I did was I created what I thought to be a mushroom cloud at midpoint. Then I just shrunk everything down to zero size and 'built up' what I thought was the process of forming the mushroom shape from just a fireball. That and I watched a lot of vids of nuke tests to see if I could get the proper sequence down. Every explosion is unique.

Great unit!

@aaglo: That's why the death is so spectacular! When you finally manage to take one of these beauties down, you'll need some time to celebrate and gloat to your computer screen :p I wouldn't expect it to come down easily with missiles like that!

After all these years playing, finally read the tutorials on how to load units into scenarios just yesterday, saw this and it is in! Fantastic! Really impressive work, thank you!!

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I haven't touched Civ3 for awhile, and just started tinkering with it again. Poked around on the forums, and what did I find - the Arsenal Ship! I remember asking Wyrmshadow if he would do one of these a long time ago - finally he did. :D

I've added it in, and the reason I am posting is to ask if there was ever a sound pack released for this unit, as it comes with no sounds. Tried using the search function and didn't come up with anything - if there were sounds released for this later, can someone point me to a thread? If not I'll have to improvise with some existing sounds.

BTW, Wyrmshadow - this is an awesome unit. Time to terrorize some enemy coastlines...

I did not make any sounds for it and none were made by anyone else. Try and use the default firaxis stuff like the Battleship for movement/death and the radar artillery for the attack noises. That is my only suggestion. I have only recently started putting in sounds only for my Harry Turtledove units.

Ok, I'll try that, maybe the AEGIS cruiser would make a better engine sound as the Arsenal Ship is supposed to be a modern unit. I'll experiment and see what works for the mass missile launches.

I can see why you would not include sounds, making unique sound files for all your units would be a tremendous amount of work.

Yeah, Oz, I had PM'ed Wyrmshadow several times myself, asking for this, it makes a much needed upgrade to the Battleship in the Modern era. Glad he finally got around to it.

The run sound is actually the same as the AEGIS cruiser, I tried tweaking this about but wasn't satisfied, so left it as is in the zip - all the other sounds are custom though. The rocket attacks fit well with what this is supposed to do, and seem to work ok as they are in the INI file, though I wonder if there is a way/tutorial to make new AMB files for custom units around somewhere.

Anyway, I think these sounds make the Arsenal Ship into a fairly complete and well rounded unit. Now, if I can only get Wyrmshadow to make me a Sealift Ship... :)

Yeah, there seem to be "difficulties" working with .amb files in Civ.

Very nice work though

Best,

Oz

So is this the same thing? :mischief:
