You are king of a small sized island, what weapon systems do you use to defend it?

A wall 10 meter tall with 120mm gun + 20mm auto cannon every 20 meters :D for the pirates.
And a few 380 mm guns so that i can shoot at passing ships.

I would have a base inside the volcano containing my superlaser and an extremely slow dipping mechanism that dips the spy into liquid hot magma.

Pirates would just dig under your silly walls.... jeez.

I would spend money on making my island a vacation spot and attract lots of foreigners. I'll invite dignitaries from other country (especially ones with big armies) to come party on my island. Then I will turn my island into an economic power like Hong Kong.

This should deter anyone from invading my country. It would be political suicide for any nation to attack us and we with so many foreigners, we will appeal to other nations for any help should the need arise.

I would use guerrilla tactics. The limits on manpower and equipment would not allow any kind of conventional defenses to last for very long against a moderately powerful invasion force, but the mountains and forests are perfect for ambushes and harassment.

Build Über geothermal power source, develop 1 Giga joule railgun build them at strategic points, put nuclear bombs under the crust around island (through pipe) enemy comes, detonate one, I don't know what kind of boat other then a sub that can survive 100ft waves, and the shock wave would kill those, tons of 1 Mega-joule railgun for Aircrafts... and any surviving ships, should range 500 miles+...

I'd extract DNA from mosquitoes fossilized in amber and fill in the blanks with the DNA of a West African toad to create dinosaurs who will then be caged in what I believe to be impregnable electric fences, open it to the public, and get lots of money. And if I'm invaded, I shut it all down. Good luck with that, invading army!

make the call to kamino.

Not really, no. Anti submarine warfare is good, but against modern subs, like the relatively inexpensive German export subs, the advantage rests with the subs unless the attacking navy is extremely good. And that really means that there's only a handful of navies that can attack a place that is defended by several good subs without taking devastating losses.
Which is why the identity and resources of the attacker would be good to know, hmm? :p

Most people don't want to win Pyrrhic victories, thanks.

30,000 Japanese soldiers with the same attitude as the ones in WWII, but with modern weapons.

Shields! Multiple layers of bubble shields. The kind that zap the hell out of anything that tries to penetrate them (like a crazy island sized bug zapper!), and a large pointed stick (mostly used to taunt enemies while safely turtling inside our precious shields). The radius of the outermost shield sphere would be controllable so I could be a complete asshat and zap off pieces of enemy ships 1 meter at a time, and totally make them think they have a chance of escaping my dastardliness.

Hey, if a tiny power is attacked by a great power, guerrilla warfare is the only thing that works. Go ask Vietnam. But that said, subs will discourage or stop anyone other than a great naval power. They are that dangerous.

I'm not saying it doesn't work in certain circumstances, I'm saying that it's definitely not something that I'd instantly opt for, much less the sole alternative, and we still don't know whether the war will be against a Great Power or not. Besides, even asymmetric warfare isn't a guaranteed win. Ask the Boers and the Basmachis.

Spearmen, in enough numbers they can defeat tanks.
Amphibious war elephants too.

I'd probably spam caravels as well to deal with battleships.

lol, your thinking civ2 when a battleship could be sunk by a Phalanx

but seriously, let your civ live in peace for 100s of years in isolation while you pay scientists to study Genome mutations based on local diet, climate, etc. and once all of your inhabitants have the mutated gene, have the scientiticians develope a virus that kills all humans who dont have the mutaions...but hurry, there are already rumors that one "special" race/religion is light years ahead

I'd have a smoke monster that attacks at my whim and creepy people who can walk around the jungle quietly and whisper.

Nothing is more powerful than Eurabatres the Golden Dragon. Except maybe Trogdor!
