As 2006 draws to a close, what were your gig/concert highlights of the year?
Which artists/bands really impressed you live? Who did you have a great time seeing?

My gig highlight of the year was definitely Download Festival! My 4th Download and my 8th festival, and the best yet. Finally seeing Tool live there after a long wait, and they were awesome. I also saw them a couple of days later at Hammersmith Apollo..another awesome show...best band I have seen live. It really has to be a major highlight of my life so far! The other 2 big highlights of Download were Alice In Chains, really emotional (loving thse songs since I got into grunge and also Layne being passed away and all) and seeing Metallica for the 4th and most definitely the best time!! Of the other bands I saw there, Dragonforce was really fun, watching them run around the stage like crazy.

Asides from Download, I also saw Tool at Wembly at the end of November, which was another amazing gig! Mastodon supported and I was really impressed. A couple of weeks later I also saw Placebo there (for my 6th time..also caught them at Alexandria Palace earlier in the year which was really good and at Reading which was ok) and they put on a really good show.

Another gig highlight of the year was seeing Covenant at Islington accedemy in London, was really impressed. I also went to Reading Festival for the 5th time and though socially it wasn't so great (didn't have many friends there) I saw the almighty Pearl Jam who were really great and emotionally moving.

So yeah thats enough about me, what were your gig high points of the year?

Also intrested (for those of you in bands/solo) if you played any great gigs?

Seeing Metallica again was great. Also I finally got to see Tenacious D live. Now I am just hoping that the rumours that ACDC are playing Slane in 2007 are true, that would make my year.

What was Tenacious D like? I've heard strange reviews:crazyeye:

i went to the Unholy Alliance- In Flames kicked ass, but the headliners Slayer were, to say the least, crap. Childern of Bodom played very well too, as did Lamb of God, but bless poor old Thine Eyes Bleed, as crap as they were, tried their best

i also saw The Irish Pink Floyd (our official tribute band) live in Belfast and they were amazing. fantastic cover band!

It was different. They played most of there well known songs and quite a few from the movie. It was certainly not your tradtional concert. For example they brought out guys dressed as Colonel Sanders, Charlie Chaplin and The Antichrist to play drums, bass and electric guitar respectivley. I'll admit there was a part of me hoping for Grohl on the drums at the beginning but I knew that wasn't going to happen. Getting a cover of Pinball wizard was pretty cool I have to say.

I'd definatly go and see them again. Although RDS Simmonscourt was not the right place for them. The Point would have been much better or the Oddessy in Belfast.

Sounds a bit crazy, though intresting!

You thought Slayer were crap? That surprises me. They were pretty good at Reading. I've seen In Flames a couple of times (including Download this year) and they were great, and Lamb Of God were awesome when i saw 'em there last year! I really wanna see Lamb Of God again.

Tenacious D does live shows? That might be entertaining, as long as its better than the movie...which was AWFUL.

Best gig I attended: Blues Traveler, 9:30 Club, Washington DC. I managed to catch a drumstick and get it autographed...and after the gig, I got to meet my idol, Harmonica player John Popper. Booyah :). Plus, it was only 15 bucks.

Best I gig I performed for: Aces High with the Sean Carney Band, Blues Station, Downtown Columbus Ohio. SCB is the biggest blues band in central Ohio (and apparently, a fairly big deal overseas as well). We got to play a 2 hour set before they came on, and then got to play with them later into the wee hours of the morning...sold the whole bar out...and best of all, some very important people were in the crowd, so our email is full of people trying to book us in the next few months.

Also, there were cute girls there. Always a plus :)

For the bazillionth time I saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers along with Pearl Jam at Summerfest.

Excuse the horrid video and sound quality but I was at both of these concerts.
Milwaukee..
T.P, Heartbreakers with Eddie Vedder
In Chicago..
TP playing Running down a dream

I have a good friend who invited some friends to a private showing of Cheap Trick at the Hard Rock Hotel. That was a jam. Who knew?

PS I'm looking forward to seeing Matt Brown's band in Chicago this summer! He better let me get on stage and play a tamborine. :p

Virgin Music Fest on September 16th.

Kasabian, Wolfmother, Gnarls Barkley, Killers, The Who, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

What a sweet concert.

I only went to Covenant this year. Fantastic show, especially in a small intimate setting. We drove 18 hours in one go to see them, then drove 15 hours back to get back to school and work. It was worth every minute in a car full of smelly men.

Late last year, I saw Nine Inch Nails and the Rolling Stones. Both were good, but Nine Inch Nails is more conducive to a live show. An amazing amount of attention to detail Trent and the boys put into things. :goodjob:

Hmm, Lemmie think...

Pendulum

Saw them yonks ago now in the summer.. was a good night.. had my first one night stand which always is a plus :)

The Young Knives

Cool lil band, saw them with my Dad (i admit it, my dads cool) which was nice for father/son things.

mhmm. slayer sucked :\
prolly cos they were last on and were drunk as hell, and we were all knackered from the other bands XD

My niece's elementary school choir concert was outstanding. I haven't bothered with live concerts for professional musicians in years and years.

Green Day Concert in New York

I had this sweet imagination concert in which Toto played Africa over and over. It was sweet!

2006 was a low intensity rock-year for me. I did attend some gigs, but the bands ranged from bad to uninteresting. I went to a few folk-music gigs as well and some of those definitely had their highlights. Sofia Karlsson for example, and the Irish band "Dervish" was really really good.
