Your First Time

To ammend for my sins I would say that women are probably better shooters:

When it comes to pistol-shooting as a recreational sport, women are apparently more accurate than men.
"Women are more disciplined in following instructions while men tend to pay less attention,"

This applieas to driving discipline too probably as women are less prone for driving crazines and competetive nature of man :D Please do not take that previous post of mine too serious hehe :mischief: ;)

It was a one shot pistol that you reload by pushing the whole barrel and chamber down. The trigger was really stiff. I definitely missed my target.

I've always passed on the AK-47 shooting range tourist attractions that you find in places like Lithuania, Vietnam, Cambodia (they seem to like grenades, too), etc.

The closest I came to going to one was in Cambodia, but we stopped off at a land mine museum on the way, and then figured a shooting range was probably more tactless than fun, especially in the midst of a massive gun amnesty.

If you care to delve into gender differences in shooting, women also tend to have a lower center of balance than men, which lends itself to increase accuracy.

This precisely, however.....

Over the course of the weekend we shot a number of kangaroos (vermin on this farm) and other animals classified as such. By the end of the weekend the thought of killing yet another animal was too much for me. I've never fired a gun since.

I don't hold any strong views on the ethics of killing animals considered pests, but I do know I sure as hell don't want to do it again. It could be argued that I have taken the most hypocritical position in the sense that I'm prepared to enjoy the benefits of the culling of said vermin.
I had no idea that kangaroos were considered to be vermin. According to Wikipedia, this is "to protect grazing land for sheep and cattle". That seems like hardly a justification unless you are knee deep in them. Don't ranchers use fencing to restrict the movement of livestock? Or doesn't this prevent Kangaroos from eating their grass?

Hard to fence kangaroos off.

Also they are about the only native species doing better than before white folk came. All the new grasses you see, and no natural predators.

So yeah there are culls.

What do you do with them once you kill them?

Indeed they are. I should go to a restaurant with Aussie cuisine again one day.

I wish they'd relax the restrictions on deer hunting. Apparently, those things are everywhere these days. A deer almost killed my mom a few days ago.

This thread made me ask the question what type of gun.

Shotgun- first time I took out thirty out of thirty skeet targets in about 10 minutes, excellent experience but it gets repetitive.

Pistol- first one I shot was a 9mm, it was fun, took some getting used to firing a pistol after years of rifles and shotguns.

Rifle- Ah the good ol' true first time, a .22 rifle, felt like a stronger bb gun, then again I was 4.

50 caliber Barret Sniper Rifle, my best first time with a gun, tho it felt like my arm was going to fall off afterward. Blew a hole in a 2in steel sheet about a foot across. I wish I could shoot that again it was o so nice.

Maybe they eat it if they're short on supplies... :mischief:

:rotfl:
Am I reading a parody or is that actually how you felt? I'm sorry, it's pathetic.
I think there's a fair argument to be made that any adult who doesn't feel at the very least ambivalent about being handed that sort of power is a sociopath.

Disagree. Everybody else in this thread has been quite nonchalent about handling a gun. Arronaxx is extreme in his emotions. I fear he may need counselling now...

You know what they say: he who does not wish to wield power is pathetic.

Is that a cause of media? Should we be so proud that gun use/ownership can be looked upon so lightly? Try not to answer this with a Gunnut mentality!
