Your most disgusting local food

Well, in that town of yours it's bound to be full of Englishmen who don't know what a spotted dick is.

Please, that assumes that fat doesn't taste of anything.

Not really. Though I've tried fries with bolognese sauce and cheese in England, and it was really disgusting. To be honest, the fries were pretty terrible to begin with, but still...

Cheese curd isn't the same thing as cheese. It's in how it melts... it's just lovely. The curd has little flavour itself, just the tang left over from whey.

Standing offer to every CFC member: if you come to Ottawa, I will buy you the best poutine in town.

I'll take it, if I ever get the money to go to Canada.

Be careful about what you say... There are other Ottowans who could take advantage of this offer

Eisbein with Sauerkraut.

The Sauerkraut is the tasty part ... the Eisbein is practically just fat, skin and bones. yuck ....

I can't think of any bad English food. Can anyone help?

I've said it already: anything with mint sauce, and my father added steak-and-kidney pie when I asked him about English cooking.

Anything with mint sauce is quite a lot because you can have anything with mint sauce...
I usually have it with lamb though it's nice :)

Never had steak + kidney pie so I couldn't comment. Doesn't sound like a common thing around these parts anymore..

Clotted cream is pretty gross sounding if you've never had it.

You can have NOTHING with mint sauce.

Clotted cream is one of the definitive proofs that God exists and is benevolent and kind.

Fish and chips is an abomination which in no way is a good example of a good seafood dish. I even went to one of the allegedly best fish and chips place in Whitby and couldn't see what was so good about it. I don't understand the whole concept of eating battered fish with chips. Why? It's just all fat and no taste.

If it is done right is is extremely delicious. I am so happy we have a good fish and chips place here, they don't go too heavy on the batter and you can still taste the halibut (they also have cod and pollock as cheaper). Although it is still deep fried food (if a good example of how to do it right).

EDIT: I have never had really poutine, because no one around here makes all three of the ingredients (chips, gravy and cheese curds) well enough (usually they have a lousy gravy), however I crave it all the time and will be making my own tomorrow (getting the fries from the Fish n Chips shop though, but I have turkey gravy left over from xmas and will buy some curds).

So takhasis shall we just say that you hate mint sauce?

Hamburger, I'm thinking of. While I'm not sure if it's actually German or not(don't care to look), it seems to be considered an American dish in general. Not exactly "local," but I can't really think of any local Las Vegas dishes. Doesn't help I'm not from here and am an East Coast person culturally.

I used to dislike hamburgers. I think it came about from the mistake of trying to eat a McDonalds one at a young age. Now I like good hamburgers, but still stear well clear of McDonalds ones.

I hate our traditional Christmas dish, fried carp with potato salad (hint: I don't have anything against the potato salad) :vomit: I hated Christmas Eve dinners as a child because of it.

Is that a psychoactive mushroom in that second picture? That would be an... interesting... additional to the Christmas dinner. :crazyeye:

And finally, what would think you if are served Squid in its own ink?

uhhhm ¿Yes? ¿no? belive me when I say that it is food of gods

I've heard that paella with squid ink can be quite good. I'd be willing to give it a try.

We like to put all sorts of sauces on them, but I've never seen it served with cheese. Or vinegar, like in England

By and large vinegar is a food I try to avoid in any quantity, but I actually like malt vinegar on fish and chips.

Also, is that really a direct link to the smiley? Never seen that before.

I agree with you here. I hate all kinds of pickles, cooked, uncooked, sour, sweet, little, big, crunchy, chewy. Nasty things, they are. :vomit:

Glad I'm not the only one. Found someone in real life today who doesn't like them, too.

And England.

Now I'll have to wear my England shirt tomorrow just to counteract this.

Sorry, most people eat seafood, and in fact, for many population around the world, it is their main form of sustenance. So you are the weirdo. :nuke:

Squid eating barbarians don't count :king:

Nah, it's probably a hard boiled egg with sliced tomato on top decorated by mayonnaise  Most people eat just the carp with the potato salad, the rest is just some decorative crap they put there for it to look less disgusting on the picture.
