Youtien Compendium

It's at least two symbols in English.

Interestingly, “没问题”(simplified Chinese) is equivalent to “no problem” in English, while “好” functions the same as “mmmkay”. People sometimes choose to use the longer ones to be more polite.

Well, go learn Chinese if you are interested. Here's revised Moors strategy:

1. Switch to agrarianism - warrior code, you need the +25% worker speed and +1 hammer from pastures.

2. Cordoba build pagan temple (chop it), barracks, stable. Missionary turn it to Islamic temple, keep 2 priest when grow to 4. You'll get 1st GP in 12 turns. Marrakus build warrior (work boat can wait), barracks. Wahran build settler and settle Tunis later.

3. Swordsmen go capture workers near Rome, load workers to Wahran. Load swordsmen to North Africa to capture Tripoli if able.

4. 0% research first, then drama & feudalism. Arabs will trade feudalism and engineering to you around 980 AD, keep good relation with them. Research guilds after feudalism, you need it for knights.

5. Switch to mercenary, buy horse archer in Cordoba, catapult in Marrakus. But don't build only armies in Cordoba, build library after 3 horse archers, for you need research and scientist slots.

6. Attack Spanish, I did this in 890 AD and captured 2 workers in that turn. With 3-4 catapults and enough troops, Madrid will fall in 2-3 turns. Conquer the other city in Sapnish core and they'll collapse. Indy Barcelona is easy to take with only 2 archers defending. When you get a great general, attach to a chariot and let it have medic III.

7. Spread Islam to Madrid and let it build La Mezquita (remember to build quarry near Wahran first). Cordoba should produce 3 great people, La Mezquita provides 1 and Madrid produce 5th.

7. Conquer France! 10 units can do the work. Quick!

8. Capture Rome, be quick! I did this in 1100 AD. Italians will spawn in 1170 if nobody captures Rome. By this time, all mercs you bought should be killed in combat. Have 2 galleys stand by Italy and send the remaining army to Africa.

9. In 1100 AD, my Wahran got size 6, I let it build a settler in case I can only get 2 cities in Mali by 1200 AD. Marrakus build horse archers. Once you have 3 HA ready, attack Mali with workers building road. You must capture Timbuktu before 1170.

10. Get guilds in 1160 or 1170, switch to guilds-levy armies(or warrior code), upgrade HA to knights in Timbuktu, heal 1 turn, capture another city in Mali. Wahran settler comes out in 1180, it have 3 turns to walk to a spot in West Africa and settle down. I settled it on plain ivory (the west one - the east one is not on West Africa region!). You can capitulate Mali this way, leave them a crap city like Djenne, and provide you 1 additional happiness.

11. Raise GP in Cordoba and Madrid while building 3-4 trebuchets, in order to destroy Portugese after their 10-turn spawning peace, that is equal to 1230 AD.

12. Enjoy your golden age, keep peace with Holy Romans, research patronage, spread Catholicism all around, switch to Catholicism after you build all Islamic wonders you can build, and build Catholic wonders. You have little chance to build Notre Dame on your own, but you don't really need it after you get ivory, gold, gem and cotton in West Africa.

13. Research printing press after you build all those Catholic wonders, while conquering Balkans(Indy Belgrad and Turk Constantinople in my game). I got 1800 gold upon converting.

14. Destroy Aztecs with your conqueror(research gunpowder first so you get bombards) and go for UHV #3.

I am going to try an ahistorical Mali game.

In 600 AD scenario, Moors would sell you feudalism for Divine rights and 400+ gold, buy it and sailing. Settle Accra after we get sailing. 2nd city better be Oshogbo, on plain ivory.

We have chance to capture Moors worker by skirmisher, do it. they won't attack us.

Switch to OR & warrior code first, then theocracy, vassalage, agrarianism and merc after 2 barracks and 1 market in capital.

Buy a combined force and conquer North Africa while capital keeping 2 merchants. How far can this conquest go?

Mighty Youtien, I request a Japanese strategy

Mighty Youtien, I request a Japanese strategy

I actually would like to know how to achieve the first UHV in general. Everyone says that it's super-easy, yet I find it insurmountable. I heard that it necessitates "conquering China early," yet I don't know how that plays into everything.

So I would like some strategies, Youtien or otherwise.

Nah you dont have to conquer china, just Korea + you need 3 cities on jap islands. Korea usually is weak and has some archers/crossbowmen/swords - 4 samurais and some catapults does the job, also if they havent settled the city on the iron raze it and settle it yourself its a good city can get alot of production. 5 cities does the job + usually 3 Great Artists(dont use create great work till the last turn in the renesance era you get 4000+ instead 3200 culture) also to be sure Korea has confu in their capital so spread it and build a cathedral in your most productive city + the buddist cathedral too - thats 100% bonus culture so it could easily net you around 200 or more per turn. Slider usually is at 10 or 20 becouse i tend to whip alot and happiness from Amphiteathers is good, not to mention the bonus culture, techrate shouldnt be a problem if you dont overexpand early.

Another one is if you dont want china just go for Khemer Manila Indonesians(careful for dutch trading company). Khemer has some units but is rearly a threat, indonesia is phatetic on defense, and manlia usually has 1 longbowman/crossbowman/musketman defending and its a good city, also has christianity if you can steal a wonder. I also like to settle Australia when i have the time.

China is the best choise becouse its superior in every aspect, but can be left as last after the mongols start to collapse and you have good stabilty so it would negate an eventual china respawn (their stack usually isnt a threat mongols collapse usually around 1500-1600s and with decent techrate you should have or be close to rifling by then). If you get those lands early you have to deal with mongols which isnt that bad except samurais < keshiks

Hi.

I remember using this strategy for one of my games as England.

youtien said:
1. Initial army conquer Marrakus and north Africa. Use warrior code instead of levy armies for fast barracks and you want to whip.
2. Then, take Alexandria and Cairo ASAP. I got them around 1250, and conquered Jerusalem as well. Next target: Mecca and Baghdad.
3. Research toward astronomy and don't get divine right and civil service.
4. After astronomy, your new cities start with a lot of buildings and size 4, with the Pyramids, you can whip pagan temple with 1 pop, and Catholicism will spread automatically one turn later in new world and South Africa and English historical area, converting it to church. Then whip work boat, monastery and workers, then whip settler when you get size 4 -- this is slower expansion, not max speed.
5. Get printing press and convert. I got 2900 gold. That'll cover your research and upgrading cost.
6. Research rifling, upgrade an army to redcoats and cannons, begin war with Mughals. Take Lahore, Delhi and Patna directly, leave Mumbai etc. to your trading company force. By this time Mughals should built a lot of wonders including Spiral Minaret(if you got good luck, Arabs might already built it in Bagdad, Mecca or Cairo)
7. Research economics, build trading company, get tons of army for only 600 gold, conquer India.
8. Spam settlers and whip buildings crazily, yes there will be severe research penalty, but you benefit more, and English has no city distance maintaince cost, that's holy .
9. I didn't switch civics since guilds. Next time I'll liberalism-bulb constistution early and use cottage economy - I built workshops around Dublin but it seldom uses them, it just did whip and whip and whip.
10. I finally bought divine rights from Dutch in 1595 and built the Verseilles.

I want a Japanese strategy for domination, not UHV. My production and research around 1600 begins to fall behind, and colonization of the Americas becomes difficult as my Mexican and Incan vassals collapse and Spain attacks me from the sea.

Youtien, now that version 1.12 has been around for a while, are there any significant changes you'd make to your fantastic China strategy guide? Or does it still hold up well despite the revisions? Thanks for posting, and for giving the rest of us all kinds of ideas of how to play the best game possible.

No. Now settling on resource doesn't give bonus anymore unless on small islands, that means we have to go back to normal strategy. China proper lacks non-calender luxury resource, and the nearest non-jungle gold is still in Japan. I used to Oracle currency, now I consider Oracle calender.

What is the normal strategy for China?

AH-writing-math-the wheel-bulb alphabet-fishing-sailing-calender. Switch to pantheon only if important wonders not built yet. Harass Babylon and capture some workers.

You have to count culture nerf too. It needs new city placement now.

New city placement:

1. Luoyang 2E from spawning point - not 2ES. It is by Yellow river, not Yangtze river.
2. Qufu! 2E2N from Luoyang, 2S from horse. It is in core area and shares 3 high-food with capital.
3. Hangzhou, in order to catch stone, better let Confucianism founds there. Remember to build a road to link it before sailing.
4. Taipei, 4 high food and pearl. Build the Great Cothon there.
5. Chengdu for gold
6. Haojing for copper.
7. Baotou for incense and silk road.

See attachment. In this game I captured 1 worker from Babylon, 1 from indy Jerusalem, and built HG in Luoyang, all necessary classical wonders after calender.

Not a overpowered game, Leoreth has balanced the mod better. I bulbed military tradition with liberalism.
