Long time Lurker, recent newbie poster, first time thread starter.

I really would like to get the predator unit made for a sci-fi mod im putting together.I plan on using it as the advanced barbarian unit with the alien as the basic one.
I'm Sure that with all the new sci-fi mods currently under construction that more people here would also benefit from this unit being created.
Sword of Geddon has agreed to work on the unit at some point, so, I guess the main point of this thread is to take suggestions as to just how it should be made, choice of weapons,attacks,outfit/armor ETC...
I'm no expert on the predator and AVP series so any help will be appreciated.I have found a few sites with images and content that i will be going through to gather some more info.I guess I should watch the movies again for the bazillionth time as well.
I would like to see him have two attacks one being the laser type attack and the other one as a thrust attack with the blades attached to his hand.
Another idea I have is that for the fortify animation he should turn on his cloaking device and be somewhat transparent.

Thanks SOG for your help with this unit.

Here are a few pics to get things started........

Additionnaly, I'm working on an Aliens vs Predator vs Terminator scenario. While I won't use this kind of graphics (see there for the reasons), I'd like to see proposition and reflexion about the units that a Predators Civ should have.

Well hopefully with this thread I can pull in some posters "in the know"

Another thing I just thought of that I'd like to see included in the units death animation is a spray or splurt of that bright neon green predator blood.
He...He...should make for a nice effect :vomit:

Well, after some reaserch on the subject it seems that more prestige is placed on making the kill during the hunt with the more up-close and personal weapons ie: the double ended collapsable spear known as the combi stick and the daggers on his hand called wristblades. As opposed to having to resort to the shoulder mounted gun called a plasma caster.

So now I dont know if it would be better to have the spear and wristblades as the attack A and B and use the laser targeting for the plasmacaster as maybe the fidget anim...? :borg:

Anyone have any thoughts on what they would rather see............

The picture you posted doesnt seem to work.I went to the site and signed up for an account but im still waiting for the email confirmation link to come through :wallbash: . What was the prop?

I have jasc animation shop3 that i'm trying to figure out how to use, does the stuff on that web site work with this software?

I haven't heard anything from Sword of Geddon about making this unit after he told me to start this thread. I know he's got his hands full since his lurker post, so I dont want to bug him about it.If anyone else wants to take on making the unit I'm sure he wouldnt mind...

The props is posable tentacle hair, pretty similar to the Predator's.
Unfortunatly for you, this is a poser model, you'll need Poser or Daz3D Studio to work with it.

:bump: Seeing that we are starting another unit makers challenge I figured I'd give this a bump to try and get a taker to make it...pretty please.:D

:bump: :mischief: OK, I know I'm playing my Thread Necromancer card here, but I really want this unit for the advanced barbarian unit in the Omega Project Mod and I have come across this FREE MODEL. Please someone take this request and make this unit.:religion:

And the link to the Model.

If you follow the link you'll see that it's only available in 3DS or MAX3 format. So that means that before it can be posed it needs to have a skeleton applied to it, which is a royal pain. If it were all ready to rumble I might be tempted to have a go at this myself, but unfortunately I don't have time to create a bone structure for it (it's hard enough doing that for the modest conforming clothing figures I've put together, let alone a complete figure like this).

The page lists two formats available Max 3 and 3DS.

Edit: Crosspost with Plotinus >,<

Hey WTH, since when are we allowed to put img's in our sig.

Since Thunderfall allowed the img placement tags, but a mod won't be too happy about it.

[offtopic] Sorry Guy's, I didn't know about the no image in the siggy rule. It's been taken care of no harm no foul.
Now to get back on topic:

I would take it up, but I can barely work with 3ds Max 7, as in, I can get it to start and that's about it. *Sigh,* only if Kinboat were here.

This is some hacked, nasty model.
It is a poser rip convereted (badly) to 3d Studio Max. The 3ds file is a mess.
The MAX file crashes deep exploration and 3d Studio Max will not correctly export it.
Best bet is to have a 3d Studio guy make this. I "might" be able to fix the model, and if no one else takes it, I will at least do that much... so someone else can animate it.

Ok, I got it fixed.
I have the mesh in 3ds (needs smoothing) or OBJ format (already smoothed).
I also tracked down the missing jpg that the MAX file was referencing.

If you are working in Bryce, I have it already smoothed and textured. You will however need to add "animation controllers" or bones to it. However, I have all the meshes split and ready for this. However, with 155 meshes, adding a "animation skeleton" to this will be a pain since there will have to be alot of them. Every joint you want to animate will need 1 of these.

If you are working in Poser, you will need to do a little less or more work. You should probably bone it and animate in that way. I understand that this is a pain. It might work to import it mesh by mesh (all 155 of 'em) and just parent it to an existing model... like one of the free ones built in. Then once all the pieces are in place, you set the under laying model/mesh to be invisible.
If anyone is interested in the mesh(es) or textures, lemme know.
