In my mod, there are 4 types of cavalry:

Heavy Cavalry - move=2, v.good attack, good defence - a linebreaker unit

Light Cavalry - move=3, poor attack/defence, bombard attack (to represent hit & run attack)

Camel Cavalry - desert inflicts 1 or 2 move penalty, which camels can ignore, requires camel resource not horse - gives the arab civs an advantage in their own backyard, and cavalry is still useful in industrial age

Elephant Cavalry - powerful linebreaker unit, v.high attack, zero defence - so can be captured, making elephant units a commodity in themselves

Dom Pedro II's camel units, whilst not of ideal quality, fill the gap nicely for most camel & elephant units. However, I need a heavily armoured war elephant as a counterpart to the European Knight/Cavalier:

Ideally, this unit would be a combination of the following pictures:

Two more pictures. Note the spikey bits and chains:

Now, these pictures are of the Daz3D (Poser) "War Howdah" and "Noggin's Elephant Armour". These are commercial models, however, again, I am willing to pay to get this unit made if the Poser guru him/herself doesn't have these products. I think you'll agree that this unit certainly fills a gap and is well worth being made. If I were to pay for the model, I would certainyl want the finished unit to be up to a high level of quality.

N.B. As far as the rider goes, I'm not fussed. A half-naked Michael in a loin-cloth and a turban would do fine, since the focus of the unit should really be the big and scary elephant.

I thought I saw an Armored Elephant before (Maybe it had something to do with DYP, not sure exactly)

Interesting! I'm sure the LOTM people will love this!
Could very well be so. ;)
That elephant's got way too many teeth for being a real elephant, but if you listen to Peter Jackson it'd be a great Mumakil. :mischief:

I'm beginning to think you're sneakin looks at ma HD zulu. I have all those elephant armour/accessory sets already, but have also been working on a bunch of other sets (mainly warboxes/armour). That howdah just doesn't look real, although I admit I'm not a historian. The Ptolemaic is still a WIP, I stopped it to do the more basic Persian set to work out the Poser conforming probs. The "Persian War Elephant" is being worked on right now, just trying to get the scaling and walk cycle down

So Zulu's gotten psychic, huh? :goodjob: That Persian War Elephant looks like it's going to be sweet.

I think I have an animation file for an elephant if you want it ripptide... I know how hard animating a four legged beast can be :D And I swear I didn't tell anyone you were making those guys :D So he didn't hear it from me...

I'd love to grab it from ya Kinboat. I have one made by Cliff Bowman, but it's not working too well (although to be 100% honest, it could just as likely be my conforming with that set). Which also reminds me, as these were/are made by me (with the exception of the Greek textures, they were made by pmilko, but we were doing these as freebies anyways), if any Poser users want a copy, fire me an email addy. The Greek set is 7.73MB (not a lot of optimization unfortunately), and the Sassinid Persian set is 2.2MB.

Here you go... It's 15 frames long (well 16 but the last is the same as the first and can be removed).

And a preview... Don't know why I made it... other then to see if I could animate that gait. Only one foot off the ground at a time and all.

Indeed, a most impressive animation!

Rip, Kinboat, those look great. However, I'm keen on the finished unit having spikes and chains on the tusks. Is that a goer?

Not to be a stinker here, Zulu, but I don't think that it is the natural inclination for an elephant's tusks to spread so far apart as to make the chain between them feasible. Is it? My understanding of the tusk growth, limited as it may be, is that they tend to curve out at first, but as they grow longer they curve back in. Are those chains something that were actually implemented in RL, or just in LOTR? Just curious.

For my personnal elephant-line, a reiter counterpart could be nice too. No idea what it should look like ;)

The models proposed by Zulu are great, so are the Riptide's wip and Kinboat animation.
I really begin to like this tread :D
