Twitter discourse today was like from 1-5 AM the terminally online freaks on the left were relentlessly memeing and joking about the whole business. And then the lib pundits and journalists woke up and have spent the rest of the day scolding the left for having fun.

First of all, Trump isn't going to die so the hand wringing over people joking about it is melodrama of the highest order. Second, Trump is a complete turd of a person so the pearl clutching over people joking about him dying (which isn't going to happen anyway) is just pointless virtue signaling.

Usually I am blasted as a moderate and I think I was the first to point out the hypocrisy of saying anything other than "the best outcome for the nation and the world is if he dies."

As for the inappropriateness of making light of this, I agree. The man deserves from us all of the sympathy he was careful to offer. at the start of each of his Coronovirus briefings. toward the people who had been infected or lost loved ones in the previous day

The Dems are just ****s. They will play resistance theater; they will try to "appeal to moral sense" of Republicans (Cory Booker cringe interview re: SC); they will be saying all these "daring" things, but when push comes to shove, they immediately fall in line and do what they are told.
Biden literally trashtalked Bernie at every opportunity, and Bernie is still working hard to get him elected. Bernie also did more campaigning for Hillary than she did for herself. Bernie is a ****, too. Sorry Bernie, but you are not my hero anymore. At some point you have get off your knees and show the middle finger to the establishment—something you talked about but never did.
Really happy to be an independent now. And any libs or conservatives try to come and shame me, I will send them on a never-ending quest to look for the fudgs I give.

An example is Rachel Maddow: she spent the last 4 years talking about Trump on a DAILY Basis; she talks every day how horrible he is, how he is a traitor colluding with Russia, how he is an evil man trying to destroy our democracy, how he is tearing families apart, how he is basically just devil incarnate... and now? Well, judge for yourself:
I'm guessing virtue signaling. As you say its well known and documented that she despises Trump. At best, this is an attempt to show class. At worst, concern trolling. There is zero chance this is her genuine sentiments.

I would say that these people are hypocrites, but they are not. They know exactly what they are doing. If Trump wasn't president, Rachel Maddow would have nothing to talk about, and no one would watch her garbage show. The media NEEDS Trump to harvest hate clicks and generate content, since most people are already getting tired of eating their propaganda.
And the general liberal populace is too brainwashed to think for themselves, so they can't wrap their heads around NOT caring for rules, politeness, and procedures, and actually caring about things that matter, like over 200k dead Americans. And meanwhile conservatives are printing shirts "Trump is my king".

And yet there are many people shaming others for celebrating Trump contracting corona. The same twitter accounts who were joking about "uneducated rednecks" in red states dying from it a few months back... that just shows they are only capable of caring for the rich and powerful but don't actually have any empathy for anyone else. And of course, most of them are grifters anyway.

Exactly correct. This is basically what she is expected to say and must say (or keep quiet) if she wants to keep her job. No way she means it.
