2020 US Election (Part Two)

Isn't he some kind of religious loon?
I am not a US citizen, I just care about international politics, cause that affects me.

A religious loon who supports every war the US has started recently plus being even keener than Trump on starting one with Iran.
Not to mention the bad effects he would have on large sections of the US populace which is kind of important in a US election.

I am just going with the flow, according to which Trump is the worst ever. Which he sort of is, though Pence is more connected and would indeed get a war through more easily.

edit: and you judge US politics just on which is best for international affairs whilst you expect us to care about EU issues just because of how they affect Greece. Have some consistency.

There's a rather important difference there, which is that what people in this forum think about the Eu doesn't actually have any impact on anything...
By virtue of position, on the other hand, my views on anything can't be equally insignificant to my own self.

Theres a severe illogic to that.
All our views are significant to ourselves even if they don't have any impact on anything, why do you think you are special in that.

Kellyanne Conway tests positive.

Thom Tillis tests positive.

Rose Garden gathering of Republicans at which of course hardly anyone wore masks for announcement of Trump's SCOTUS pick appears that it might be ground zero of the outbreak.

In other news,

Dateline: Hell
Satan, the Prince of Lies, announced today that he is entering an extensive training program. After reigning for millennia as undisputed champion the sudden loss of confidence has sent shockwaves through the ranks of loyal demons. "It's this Covid thing, I know it," one demon remarked off the record. "He won't admit it, but the boss is feeling the heat. With all these top level people from the Trump administration coming in, possibly with very little time in between, he needs to prepare. And heaven forbid he isn't in top form when Trump himself arrives. The way that guy lies it's hard to believe he's just human. He's like a machine."

Why do you think I think that? I just contrasted personal significance (which is always non-zero) to how much one expects other people's views to realistically matter. We obviously would agree that no one here will change the Eu, so that couldn't be the reason to post against it.
For to just post your view, you don't need more of a reason, while if one really meant to get others to see things in the way he/she does then there should be at least a reasonable expectation it would produce a change.

I worry that if Trump dies, a big chunk of the vote will not turn out for Biden as planned, since many are just voting against Trump. Pence has stayed quiet enough that most people who don't pay attention don't really know or hate him.

If people are that fudging stupid they deserve what they get.

You think he would not if he thought he could win if he did?

I actually believe he is smart enough to know that he probably couldn't sell it, and concerned enough about unleashing destruction if he tried. I genuinely believe that the "if I can't be president might as well burn the country to the ground on my way out" beliefs die with Trump. Which is not to say that I hope he dies, just that I think it would be the best thing for the country and the world if he did.

Michael Moore floated the idea of Trump lying for sympathy. Moore is pretty sharp about things sometimes, but this time he blew it; a positive coronavirus result for the President might garner him sympathy, but it won’t get him votes.

At this point I’d almost suggest people vote Biden to get this circus over with.

You're going to let that fat socialist weasel bully you into it? :mischief:

If people are that ******* stupid they deserve what they get.
We'll get it too, though. And I can't blame people for not knowing Pence all that well. He's kept a low profile while Trump seizes all the attention for himself. I'd rather we didn't become Gilead.

I already removed all assets from the US and I can bolt on a dime if I have to. Fighting the moronic tides is something I do for fun, not out of necessity.

Yeap, Phrossack's concern is also mine. Mike Pence is -undeservedly- more palatable to the public than Donald Trump and has managed to let the spraytanned man shoulder (most of) the blame and the dip in personal reputation.
But Pence is not palatable to the hard core Trumpists. All the things they like about Trump, pence doesn't have.

I'm going with thoughts and prayers for Trump. Arioch Arioch blood and souls.....

I know you made your post in jest, but can we at least get a new slate of clowns to poke fun at now? Trump hasn’t been transformative, he’s been status quo. Lame.

I expect Biden to be a lame-o too, but he won’t have to do much to defy my expectations. I’ll settle for that.

Most of us aren't so lucky. I'd like to have options overseas, but it would be a real trick getting a job, and I'd have to leave family and friends behind.

Yeah I understand. It is something I had to work at, and prioritizing that had costs, but I certainly am getting it back in peace of mind as the US circles the drain.

Apparently, Twitter is going to delete tweets which wish Trump death. Hmmm how interesting. I wonder why they haven't done it when AOC or Ilhan Omar get dozens of death threats every day? Please make it make sense.

Or, say, literally every trans woman on that website

Ok I only have 30 pages to catch up with after a week off.... I'm only on page 366 so there's a lot ahead of me but I had to stop to quote -
In contrast, if Trump's term expires without his re-election, he does not have the right to appoint himself as acting presidency, no more so than any other civilian who qualifies for nomination.
This is the 'You can't do that' defense, which has worked brilliantly at stopping him to date.

I am starting to get the idea that you and I have a fundamentally different assessment of how well the rule of law is holding up here at the moment.

So, tonight's presidential debate promises to be an entirely new experience in USian politics.
Man you called it....

Oh, debate’s on now! I saw it on the Japanese news but they have the translators talking over them. I’ll have to go back and watch it so I can watch in English. :crazyeye:
I saw clips of that and it was meaningless gibberish! The translators were so unprepared for what went down that they kept inserting polite japanese phrases to excuse their interruptions and talking over each other that were not at all reflective of what was really being said. (or so some Japanese people on twitter said)

It's a joke but it's ***** true. Omg it's so true. He acted just like a petulant child that's about to be scolded.

Wallace was so lenient on Trump...
Unpopular opinion:

I don't think anyone in Chris Wallace's shoes could have done better than he did last night. I can't even fault him for leading, right-wing-friendly questions because he didn't get to ask them...

I do not believe he was set up from a technical standpoint to cut the mic, and I don't think it would even be fair to judge him for not cutting the mic even if he could. It was just so unprecedented and historic - it was like watching the Hindenburg come down where all you can do is hold on.

Wallace emphatically did not have to call Trump out, but he did. And while you can say he could have called him out more and louder, at that point he would have just been mirroring Trump while also playing into Trump's claims that the media is against him. It was an impossible situation but despite it, I think Wallace did the best he could and about as well as we could expect someone else to have done in the moment.
