Hiya guys, sorry about the lack of work just lately but ive been having troules with my computer, on top of which I'm also having trouble with my moving to kent plans. In the rest of the country unemployment has generaly dropped, but in kent it has risen from 1,600 to 19,000 which make getting a job realy difficult.

On the plus side I have managed to get a computer for when I move, so if i can pay the internet bills, I'll be able to continue the project. :)

Any way, been reading some more recent science fiction, looking for plausable ideas, I've found Steven Baxter good for near future scenarios, while I've also been reading Peter F Hamilton's night's dawn trilogy. Most of it is fairly unrealistic, and i'm not keen on the disparity between tech levels and the ability to create worm holes using fairly cheap technology, but there are some good ideas in there especialy with bio-technology.

I'll see what I can do about posting some finished units this week, though I've been having severe problems with my parents pc.

P.S anyone know how to deal with the following problem;
I was installing civ III so I could work on civ colours and terrain and the computer crashed half way threough instalation. I erased all the files and prepared to start over, but now my civ III disk thinks civ is already installed, so install-shield-wizard wont give me the option of installing, only uninstalling. Even when I try to uninstall it just goes straight to 100% and says its finished performing maintenance on civ III. When I then try to intall, it again only gives me the option of uninstalation, or reinstalation (which has the same non-effect). :( any one know how to fix this without reinstalling windows?

search through the files and delete everything, or go to add/remove programs in the control panel and remove it manually.

I finished the map of the star system (took some creative liberty with placemant of planets) I'll post a shot of it abit later along with my interpretation of the terrian model...

I know this isn't the most important thing but..... does this mod plan on changing the graphics for the city view? Having the original graphics of primitive settlements definitely wouldn't look right with this mod.

Another question, quite important, will this mod be in C3C format? If not, what format will it be in? Or will it be made in all formats?

Yeh, why? Doesn't that make all the hard work to make new building graphics useless, or are those just civilopedia icons that everyone is making? Sounds pretty stupid to me.

On a more on-topic note, any ETA for a beta version, or is it still too early to tell?

It seems like it would be much easier if they (Firaxis) just gave modders the option in the editor to turn on or off the city veiw.... oh well.

So I take it this mod is going to be for C3C and therefore will not need any city graphics?

well, sorted the instalation problems and have been having a go at the conquests, getting a feel for some of the features.

I've been trying out adding units etc.. to get the hang of scenario building. I think I'm going to try making a more traditional scenario first, (either 1492 or 1942) using already available units and modifications, so that when I start putting this one together I'll realy be able to make a good job of it.

Some ideas have already emerged, such as using treasure units and victory points to represent asteroid mining, that would realy promote growth and make the smaller red-dwarf systems usefull.

So once Ive finished my test scenario you can expect an alpha version quite quickly. It will only use a small map and a single era to start with, so that I can get the basics to work, then I'll add more as it gets done.

To save time I'm rendering all the units at a standard scale, and then modifing them to make mini-multi unit versions. So expect different sized versions of similar units.

Oh yeah, that sucks about the removal of the city view in the mods, Only noticed it yesterday. I was hoping to have a fully working city view for this mod.

is any one still working on this, or is this a dying thread?

I too hope this is a continueng mod :)

Yeah, trying to learn how to use the scenario editor at the moment, prety much got the hang of adding units, but having all sorts of trouble adding resources and governments. just gonna take time I think, that and lots of unknown critical failures...

Oh yeah, anyone know where governments get there civlopedia icons from? do they share them with the tech that gives them?
