2nd UU and 2nd UB for DoC

I think the Dutch UB should be a molen rather than a coffeeshop. Coffeeshops were much less important for Dutch history than coffeeshops.

Hi merjin
Are you the author of the doppelsoldner model?
I did a few modification on that model and want to upload it to the download database .
If you are the author and you permit ,I will upload it with adding your name in the author names.

Best UB ever!

I wanted to suggest "Green Nightclub" as the 2nd Dutch UB,
but I think everyone beat me to the chase with more appropriate UBs.

I actually really like that idea now (the UB effects).

What do you think about Dutch Green Nightclubs, merijn_v1?

I really like it. But I think that the Molen is more appropriate and historical.

Being Dutch, I've got to mimic this. I never heard of Green Nightclubs before :p

No. I got the art from Realism Invictus. I assume you got the art from RFCE?

Thanks merjin.:)
Finally I got the author's permission and upload the file here, http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=18931

I like the list so far. I really like the mounted brave unit for the Aboriginals in NA. This will give a real challenge to colonization (akin to dealing with Impi units) and simulate the "Indian Wars" of the western frontier. This along with european pressures, will simulate an america that is defence and military focused.

With China's UU, it seems more like a flavour unit, and less viable for gameplay. Its my observation that China defends more than it conquers. While there is a lot of historicity in giving them an early cannon unit, could I suggest a unit that is a good barbarian counter instead. This is just an observation, and I am aware there has been a lot of discussion about what would be a good addition for china. I know cannons can be good for defence, but why not a chariot or horse archer replacement?

One last comment, I really like the Scythed Chariot idea for Persia. It gives them a small window of time to be really really strong military power, but against later opponents (greece etc) its less op.

All in all really good ideas. I have been playing through all the civs, and if I observe more things I will try to suggest my two cents. This mod is amazing and I look forward to updates.

I love this modmodmod (?) idea.

But I think it has quite a way to go.

For Japan, I think that Ashigaru have much more historical significance than the current yumi archer idea. They might replace levies, but I really wouldn't know how to change them, perhaps cheaper and weaker?

For the UB, the current torii, doesn't really make much sense to me. One suggestion would be what the torii "represents", a Shinto shrine, which would be the replacement to a pagan temple. However, this, I believe, would involve moving the Japanese spawn to at least the Kofun period to make it prior to the introduction of Buddhism.

Of course, you could just completely scrap the whole idea, and replace it with a Shiro. Replaces castle , but with the ability to catch spies like the security bureau, and maybe a couple of other bonuses.

It's viewed that way (defensive Chinese military doctine) often in lieu of China's traditional relationship with nomadic steppe peoples,
but the conquest has relatively been equal on both sides and China has often taken aggressive postures before.
During periods like Han, Tang, Ming & Qing, there was a lot of hawkish expansionism into steppe peoples' territories.
During the Tang period especially, Chinese borders stretched all the way to Transoxiana.
And don't forget that adventurism in Vietnam & Corea were prevalent as well.

Okay, as for the units though:
We already had Cho Ko Nus to represent a defensive aspect of Chinese military,
so that's why I was initially suggesting a Treasure Ship, as perhaps a potentially offensive (or catalyst for) unit.
As for Chariots or Horse Archers, there is the South-Pointing Chariot, but it's kind of mythical.
Riders from Civ3, if you recall, could be used to simulate Chinese heavy or light cavalry; the Chinese indeed did utilize lots of cavalry to fight against the steppe peoples.

Fair enough, that was my initial consideration, and I am sure there are lots of times when offensive war would be advantageous for China in DoC. I guess I was just thinking in line of the UHV. Good points! Its just in general nations in DoC like China or Russia who have an abundance to settle do not need a lot of conquest. But I could see how you could use the cannon for defence too, I mean you shouldn't really have to worry about barbs because of the great wall :P.

I guess my final argument that something else should be done (heavy calvary or something) is that for china to get the temples for its first UHV it needs not waste a lot of hammers on military conquest. There is plenty room to settle. Those riders could be used for military expeditions north or south as well. China's early cannon, is the one it gets for researching Gunpowder before everyone else :).

^I would most likely be more inclined to accept a cavalry/naval UU for China.

Cataphracts have been in use in the Chinese military as far back as the Han Dynasty.

Also, I have to agree with Bair_The_Normal.
Ashigaru infantry are a lot better in my mind for a Japanese UU than a Yumi Archer.

Couldn't the torii be a replacement for pagan shrine that can be build regardless of the religion in your city ?
