A Brave New World Part 2

OOC: and, yep, your nations gone insane. your alliance's naval power is concentrated in the Alantic, and you have no place to base your logistical support from in the pacific (that I know of). the cost is going to be extream and a logistical knightmare.

On another note, if you are really planing a naval invasion and our swedish freinds allow it, we would be more then happy to porvide a port and supplies for your efforts. for a price, of 1 EP a year, perhaphs? while we have no wish to get our own hands bloody, we are always looking for a way to make a profit.

OOC: If I was actually serious I would simply use Japan, my ally, as a staging ground.

Yes, because Japan is surely only a small hop away from the Pacific West Coast. No logistics issues there at all.

Anyways, I'm starting update preliminaries now. Still a couple more hours to get orders in though.

I'll play as Greece starting next turn

OOC: If I was actually serious I would simply use Japan, my ally, as a staging ground.

I thought Japan doesn't exist. The Russians and Koreans conquered it (or so it seems; I haven't really looked at ABNW I).

OOC: He meant Korea.

From Virginian Empire

We fail to see how you joining Mexico, the largest communist power on the planet, is "de-socializing." Our troops will be mobilized regardless, but in order for this mess to be sorted out, we will agree to a cease fire. Provided of course we get a confirmation from Mexico.

To Union of Mexico
From Empire of Virginia

We do need confirmation that the Union of Mexico will be absorbing the Lakota and that she will make the required payments of 20EP to Virginia, and 3 EP each to our Canadian and Tennessean allies.

No, it's not "de-socializing". The Republic of New France has been misinformed by her advisers. Rest assured that they've been sacked. We retract prior comments.

Well I'm giving 3 hours I guess as a final warning for last minute orders. Starting work on limited parts of the update at the moment.

To: The Virginian Empire
From: The Union of Mexico

The requested payments will be sent starting next year. The Lakotan Communes and the Mexican Communes will be entering into a Union during this year.

What kind of payments will be sent? For the total bill of 26EP, we suggest two years of 9EP and one year of 8EP.

Apparently I forgot to say that the deadline was over. The deadline be over. When I posted the last update I did warn all of you that failure to recieve orders for this update meant you were no longer participating in the NES. Therefore we have had a substantial number of dropped people this year. A large number of nations have become open, particularly with the emergence of a possible regime change in one of the big countries. In the case of the more powerful of these countries, I reserve the right to prevent who I choose from those positions.

BEcause the update is taking longer than expected, I'm going to finish up the rest tomorrow as I'm really tired at the moment. Thank you for the patience.

SEMINOLE PLEBISCITE HELD. Osceola, Florida. The long awaited plebiscite for Seminole independence was held this year under supervision of the Gulf Alliance. The motion for creation of a new republic was rejected by the majority of the people. Within the territory acknowledged as the Seminole Republic, over sixty percent of the population voted to remain within Florida. Attributed to the success was a growing united front against Georgia in the south due to their attempted interference within the peninsula’s affairs. Though some resistance remains from the black Seminole population, the populace has given their final decision. In response, Cuba has at last withdrawn their occupying presence from the city of Osceola, pulling back their last military forces in southern Florida. (+3 Stability for Florida)

CHICAGO ELECTIONS. Chicago, Free City of Chicago. The Conservative Party, despite rising opposition within the government, has managed to crush the opposing parties in this year’s elections in Chicago. The Conservative Party has pledged to continue the city’s membership within the New Englander Imperial Protectorate as well as to keep the continuing friendly relations with the Virginian Empire and the United Nation States of America. The government has pledged to be more involved with the international affairs of this organization, hoping to soon gain admittance. (+2 Stability for Chicago)

NEW ENGLAND ELECTIONS. Boston, Republic of New England. The Liberal Party has managed to secure a decisive victory in the polls in the Republic of New England. The coalition party which has held the country together through the past four years has been brought under the control of the liberals who have claimed that it was their influence which led to the successful reabsorbing of the New Yorker Rebellion. The completion of the Albany Project has also been attributed to the Liberal Party, which claims to be the true party of reconciliation. (+1 Stability)

MISSISSIPPI RIVER DECLINE. Vicksburg, Georgia. Though the Great Recession appears to be coming to an end globally, some regions of the world face continued economic problems. The Lakota Crisis and the resulting confusion and military moves has all but destroyed Mississippi River commerce. The river, which once possessed the largest amount of shipping of any river in the world, now rests silent as freight looks for safer methods of transport. Also contributing to this decline is increased overseas trading with the East Atlantic Customs Union by Texas and Louisiana, offering cheaper pricing than the various Mississippi River nations.

UNION EXPANDS AFTER CRISIS. Mexico City, United Collectives of North America. After several years of building strong economic ties within the Socialist International Cooperative Group, the Commune of the Lakota People has been brought into the Union of Mexico. This merger of nations has resulted in the creation of the United Collectives of North America. The government of the Lakota has been offered strong regional control as well as a semi-autonomous status. The impetus for this was the resolution of the Miami rebellion and the threat of invasion from Virginia and a coalition of other capitalist powers. The Union of Mexico represented a safety net for the Lakota people, who’s government have chosen to give up foreign sovereignty to the government in Mexico City. As a recognition of native contributions to communism, and the possibility of Nez Perce entry into the Union, the Union of Mexico has been renamed the United Collectives of North America. It is recognized as a successor super-communist state much like the Socialist Union of South America. Capitalist countries now tremble at the march of mighty Communist Mexico, for in Communist Mexico, pesos spend you!

TENNESSEE SPECIAL FORCES. Nashville, Tennessee. The army of Tennessee has announced the creation of unique special forces based off of the elite members of the nation’s former cavalry forces. The so-called Hunter Brigades are stated to consist of the finest warriors in North America, capable of elite operations and underground activity. These special troops are well trained and armed, though many believe they are not quite a match for the German Kommando forces.

ALBANY PROJECT COMPLETE. New York City, Republic of New England. In the wake of the New Yorker rebellion, the government of New England has provided large amounts of funds to revitalize New York City. This extensive projects has included new port facilities, housing, and new monolithic steel buildings much like those in Boston. Among these is the world’s tallest building, the Imperial State Building, a government and commercial center for the management of New York. The construction of this building has sparked an intense rivalry among the cities of the United Nation States of America as various communities have determined to build ever larger “sky-scrapers” in order to demonstrate their superiority. Construction of offices similar to the Imperial state building have already begun in cities like Toronto and Pittsburgh. (+1 EP to New England, +1 Stability)

NEW DEAL BROUGHT TO AN END. Toronto, Canada. The economic reconstruction program known as the New Deal in Canada was brought to an inglorious end this year. Political opposition and economic recovery led to the New Deal’s end well before original stated goals were accomplished. The Canadian Liberal Party has crooned about the Conservative failure in their objectives, plus have managed to rally anti-military sentiment against them. The Liberals have claimed that the conservative party has done not much more than attempt to enslave the people to the government and the UNSA. It seems to many that they may have already begun campaigning for the next elections in 1926. (-1 Stability for Canada)

AMERICAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE ESTABLISHED. Detroit, Virginian Empire. Government oversight has led to the official establishment of an American professional football league, based off of the German other European leagues in existence. NORTH AMERICAN FAIR TO BE HELD. New Orleans, Empire of Louisiana. The government of Louisiana has offer imperial sponsorship to the holding of a North American Cultural Fair to be held in New Orleans in 1925. The Emperor offered his political and monetary support to the endeavor after a jazz band performance in the imperial palace. The management of the program have asked representatives from all nations within the North American continent to send representatives to New Orleans in four years to provide cultural entertainment. Newspapers have lauded the emperor for his charity and foresight, claiming this to be a vital occurrence for the cause of peace in the Americas.

NATURALIZATION PLAN ANNOUNCED. New Orleans, Empire of Louisiana. The government of Louisiana has announced a new naturalization program for refugees living within the borders of the nation. This includes negro refugees from both Tennessee and Georgia, who have been offered a strong new deal. Any resident who works within Louisiana for five years or more automatically will gain citizenship and the rights which follows within the empire. This move has met with only limited opposition, with the destruction of the Ku Klux Klan in Louisiana in previous years.

MIAMI BROUGHT BACK INTO VIRGINIA. Miami, Virginian Empire. With the threat of increased intervention ever rising and the crisis with the Commune of the Lakota People, the Miami government offered and received a treaty with the Virginian government. The Miamians have agreed to recognize the sovereignty of the monarch over the empire in exchange for regional autonomy and the allowance of their own militias. They have also been granted almost full control domestically, allowing them to be nearly independent within the Virginian Empire.

VIRGINIA HOLD IMPORTANT CENSUS. Richmond, Virginian Empire. The Virginian government held an important census this year, recognizing both negroes and natives within the nation’s boundaries. They have taken a full stock of the nation’ residents and people, also recording information such as political preference and monetary demographics. This information proved useful later in the year when it was used to round up and arrest all remaining proclaimed Klannists within Virginia, who have been jailed for sedition.

Central/South American News Report

SOUTH AMERICAN WAR AT AN END? Rio de Janeiro, Socialist Union of South America. A resounding and final military defeat has been at last handed to the German Empire in South America. The first great defeat came at sea where a coalition fleet attempted to draw the Mexican fleet into open combat in the Virgin Islands, threatening invasion of northern SUSA. Using the Danish fleet, the Germans attempted to encircle the Mexican armada, only to be easily spotted from the coal powered engines, allowing the Mexicans to deploy in preparation to face both the Danish and the German fleets. As in the last major naval engagement, the SUSA submarine force was able to inflict some initial casualties on the German armada, though it was mostly ineffectual and responded with numerous reprisal attacks. After the engagement of the capital fleets, the Mexican navy once more emerged victorious, sinking all but a single large capital ship. Only the speed of battlecruisers helped the ragged remnants of the coalition fleet escape to the Danish Virgin Islands. Thanks to their defeat at sea, it was only a matter of time before the German supplies to South America were cut. The main ports of Buenos Aires were soon under constant siege and bombardment by the communist forces, leading to major supply problems as La Platan forces initiated scorched earth principles, relying on food imports from the north. When the communist army hit the German positions with over three million men, the defensive lines soon collapsed. As Paraguayan ships shut down the Parana River, all sense of order within the German military soon shut down as supplies stopped flowing. Buenos Aires soon fell to the massive SUSA force arrayed against it, as the German armies collapsed. Only a few southern cities within Buenos Aires continue to hold against the onslaught.

COLOMBIA PASSES FURTHER REFORM. Bogota, Colombia. The Colombian government, even while its army faces destruction in the war against the communists, has passed several revolutionary new reforms. They have demanded that the president step down immediately in favor of elections and the establishment of a new democratic and capitalist government. (-2 Stability)

CHILE CONTINUES REFORM. Santiago, Chile. To the distress of businessmen and conservatives throughout Chile, the government has passed major working reform to be more in line with the country’s socialist allies. The government has passed anti-abuse laws for the working labor of the country, an act which has been greatly popular among the people, encouraging corporations throughout the nation to follow suit by use of tax breaks and legislation. The government has also standardized the practice of a forty hour work week, an act which has outraged business owners, declaring that such a small working period will dramatically raise production costs and limit the nation’s productivity.

EL SALVADOR INVADES HONDURAS. San Salvador, El Salvador. In accordance with the government’s stated intention to reunite the United Provinces of Central America, the military of El Salvador has invaded Honduras. The Honduran military was caught off guard though they managed to rally after the Salvadorians began to run out of steam. Honduras: 6 Infantry Brigades, 4 Artillery Brigades

BOHEMIAN ELECTIONS. Prague, Bohemia. This year’s elections in Bohemia were clearly marked by the continued dominance of the Liberal Party over all opposition groups. Despite their success in once more securing the position of Chancellor within the country, the opposition has finally managed to rally together within the Conservative Party. A third party has also managed to achieve some seats, pledging to a Czech national state, rather than the standing Austrian created monarchy. They have pledged to ultimately remove the monarchy, and some conservatives have called for the party to be illegalized.

ROMANIA ELECTIONS. Bucharest, Romania. The ultra-conservative Orthodox Party has been booted from office in Romania by a collection of Liberals and moderate conservatives. The anti-Russian appearance of the organization and the threat of another war in the Balkans encouraged opposition groups to rally against the Orthodox movement. The new Moderate Party has pledged to restore damaged relations with the rest of the Balkans and to revitalize the nation’s economy. (+1 Stability for Romania)

TRANSYLVANIA ELECTIONS. Blaj, Transylvania. The moderate coalition which has assisted in the leadership of the Transylvanian republic over the past few years has finally fallen apart. The liberals and conservatives have at last turned upon each other in this year’s elections. The Liberals ultimately came out ahead, portraying the conservatives as not much better than the radicals who led to the war with Russia. The Liberal Party has pledged internal social reform and the passing of the Balkans’ first real labor laws.

REFORM IN HUNGARY. Budapest, Hungary. Driven by the recent reforms throughout the Balkans, the government of Hungary has announced the creation of a legislative branch of government to balance the power of the king. Every male citizen within the nation has been granted the right to vote for representatives within their own province, as new elections were held. No one was quite sure of the end result of these elections, but many feel it worked out for the best possible result. A collection of liberals and conservatives, all republicans, managed to win the elections, using the Moderate Party. This group has offered a strong elected government, appealing to many of the people. A greater risk arising though, as increasing disturbances in Germany have resulted in many calling for involvement or intervention perhaps on behalf of the republican rebellion. (+5 Stability for Hungary)

NETHERLANDS HOLD FIRST ELECTIONS. Amsterdam, Republic of the Netherlands. With the national economy recovering, the government of the Netherlands has announced the confirmation of a constitution. This new constitution has promised elections to be held on the Russian system of once every four years, encouraging the democratic process within the country. Only white citizens of the empire are allowed to participate in the elections, and only the provinces within Holland itself are allowed to hold seats in the national congress. This year’s elections were primarily dominated by the rising German Civil War and imperial policy. As the Suez Canal remains uncompleted, and several parties have promised aid to Egypt to rebuild it. Other political factions have emphasized the need to support the republican faction of the ongoing civil war in Germany, in order to help the construction of a sympathetic regime to the Netherlands there. In the end, a moderate coalition was established, offering a middle ground for most people within the county. (+1 Stability)

NEW COSTUMED VIGILANTE SPOTTED. St. Petersburg, Russian Imperial Federation. In the city of St. Petersburg, a vigilante wearing silver armor has been attributed to the destruction of a smuggling ring in the city’s harbor. He has been noted for his use of an equally armored horse in his escapades, performing unusual acrobatics and swordplay to ride circles around the enemy. Over two dozen criminals were rounded up and left for police with minor wounds. His efforts have been hailed by the press, and he has sent in a letter vowing to fight against crime, and has offered his name, the Silver Horseman.

ANTI-WAR MOVEMENT IN RUSSIA. St. Petersburg, Russian Imperial Federation. Massive anti-war protests have been held throughout the major industrial centers of the empire as people protest the ongoing fighting in China. The government opposition has stated that there is no reason that the Russian regime should “fear-monger about communism like the authoritarian states of Europe and North America.” (-1 Stability)

CIVIL WAR ERUPTS IN GERMANY. Berlin, German Empire. The surrender and defeat of over a million German soldiers in South America has at last led to the breaking point of the German war will. The German people, following a popular republican coup in a beer hall in Munich, have risen up against “Prussian authoritarianism.” The so-called “Bavarian Revolution” has called upon the democratic principle of the nineteenth century state of Bavaria, demanding that a new German republic be immediately established. The Kaiser has declared martial law and disbanded the Reichstag, as the military was called in to disperse the rebels. However, to make matters worse, large parts of the standing army have murdered their officers and joined the rebels as the chaos grows. The republicans have secured control of much of southern Germany, seizing military arsenals and bases along the French and Italian borders. In the north, the vigilante known as Hooded Justice broke up a republican attempt for a coup in Hamburg, allowing that city to remain securely under the control of the monarchist forces. The situation of the German Empire remains unconfirmed as the Protectorate awaits the developments of the coming years before declaring for one side or another. The direct imperial possessions have been offered into a state of martial law as the colonial garrisons are put on full alert. The colonial governors have all offered their full support for the Kaiser’s government. The remnants of the navy have also issued their support for the Kaiser, leaving only the army divided. The Danish Empire has received de facto control once again over the naval base at Scapa Flow, as the German government cancels lease payments in the wake of the eruption of civil war.

African/Middle Eastern News Report

PALESTINE ELECTIONS. Al Quds, Palestine. The predominant issue in the Republic of Palestine’s elections this year was the apparent collapse of the German Empire in the wake of the disasters of the South American War. Though the imperial leadership seems to be intact, as well as parts of the army, the liberal opposition has announced that it is time for Palestine to begin its own course as an independent sovereign state. Despite these calls, the Conservative Party has managed to retain control of the government, promising a “wait and see” approach to the turmoil within the German Empire.

ASSASSINATION IN PERSIA. Tehran, Persia. The president of Persia, who held together the nation through the recent wars with the Ottoman Empire and Afghanistan, was assassinated this year by an unknown individual. PERSIANS-AFGHANS MAKE PEACE. Kabul, Afghanistan. After several years of brutal combat, the Persian and Afghani governments have at last agreed to a peace at current borders. Recognizing the existing stalemate of the conflict, the Persian government agreed to lessen demands of compensation to an approvable level for Afghanistan. The peace has been hailed by many, even as it appears that new wars could erupt domestically in both powers.

Asian/Pacific News Report

FIGHTING IN CHINA. Yancheng, Union of Chinese Collectives. Fighting in China continued this year at a fevered pitch, as casualties rose to extremely high levels once again. The lightest fighting took place in the south, where Guangxi has once more seized the main republican outlets to the sea, securing its control over the region against relatively little resistance. This fighting extended to the northeast, where the forces of Guangxi and Fujian clashed in several small battles, in which Guangxi seemed to emerge mostly victorious. The largest fighting took place north of the Yellow River between the republicans and communists. Outnumbered two to one, the communists were forced back along the river line after inflicting heavy casualties from well fortified positions. The republicans managed to advance a good ways along the river, until eventually they were ground to a halt by fresh communist reinforcements from the north. The Co-Axial Pact has officially entered the conflict as the French and Korean navies have arrived to institute a blockade on communist China. They have met with disaster as unexpected submarine attacks have led to the sinking of some notable larger vessels as well as numerous transports and small ships. The capture of the French controlled city of Yantai has led to disaster for troops which attempted to dock there. French reinforcements arrived far too late to save the city, but made an attempt to land anyways, running face first into well prepared Chinese troops. Heavy casualties were inflicted upon the French who fled to Korea, where they have caused extensive civil disorder and confusion, draining the supplies and logistics of southern Korea. Even further north, the Chinese have once again managed to divide and conquer Russian military forces, smashing the armies piecemeal. To cap off these successes, the Chinese have even held a strained Italian and French army at bay in the west, while capturing Vladivostok in the east. To this end, they were even able to capture a number of Russian ships in port, though the majority managed to steam to safety in northern ports. Another front of the war has arisen as well, a propaganda war. Both communist and republican China have flooded the nation with posters and propaganda against the other. The republican government has attempted to portray the communists as traitors and backstabbers, while the communist regime has declared that they have crushed Europe and taken the divine right of rule for the people of China from imperial rule. Plans have even been announced to establish a new People’s government facility in the old Forbidden City.
Casualty List
Communist China: 172 Infantry Brigades, 22 Artillery Brigades, 4 Tank Brigades, 13 Submarines
Guangxi: 6 Infantry Brigades
Fujian: 5 Infantry Brigades
Republican China: 102 Infantry Brigades, 4 Cavalry Brigades, 10 Artillery Brigades, 5 Tank Brigades, 1 Zeppelin Bomber Squadron, 2 Monitors

@flyinchicken: Why on earth would you have oil powered ships? I think you be greatly mistaken on that count. The EP for the sub tech has been banked.

Realized I missed doing full stability events halfway through the update. So some of you may have gotten a free ride this turn.

Refined Theories of Physics is now assumed to be common knowledge due to mass proliferation this turn. Radios level 2 and 3 are also now assumed to be common knowledge for the same reason.

People being dropped due to failure to send orders: Espoir from Pennsylvania; Nailix from Portugal; a_propagandist from the Netherlands; Stormbringer from Socialist Union of South America; bestshot9 from the Swedish Empire

At the moment Germany will probably be controlled NPC as Nader apparently said that he’d be gone for a few weeks. Should the government change, I may accept a new player as Germany.

When did the Ottoman Empire join the Axis? As far as I was aware they weren't in it.

They are in the research end of it only.

Basically they are a friend of the AXIS and may someday be a full member if they wish it.

Just looked it over, unfortunately, I have recieved no confirmation through orders that the Ottoman Empire is indeed sharing that tech. Regardless of what they've posted or where they've posted it, I do need it in orders to confirm.

Once again, I do need confirmation of tech sharing from anyone who cares to share in orders.

EQ, what is up with my Stability, why did it drop this turn? at least 4EP was spent improving it, which with my protectorate status, is more then enough to improve it from its previous level. NOT drop it. more if Sweden sent aid to us.

and who the heck added the bad tags at the bottom, please, only the Nes one really applies, please drop the rest.

I remember doing that, and now I realized why. I apparently forgot protectorate status when doing it, I considered you as a normal nation. No worries though, correcting in stats now, consider it done for your orders.
