A Brave New World Part 3

European News Report

RUSSIAN ELECTIONS. St. Petersburg, Russian Federation. This year's elections in the Russian Federation have at last seen the breaking of Federative electoral control in the Duma. The President has been ousted once again, leading to a conservative National Party government being established. The National Party has vowed to take a more aggressive approach to international diplomacy while combating recession through rearming the nation's army and navy. A major program of military growth has been announced, and the government has announced intentions to field over two million soldiers in the standing army by 1957. The National Party has been met with some opposition, as many fear they may lead to a resumption of war against the Co-Axial Pact of nations. The hefty arguments and disagreements among the people have led to increasing boisterous dissent from the Federative and other leftist parties. (-1 Stability)

SERBIAN ELECTIONS. Belgrade, Serbia. Serbian elections continue to be dominated by the Traditionalist Party, as much of the upper classes involved in the voting for the Duma wholly support the conservative agenda. The Serbian government has pledged to continue the development of the nation's navy in order to further project their power internationally. They have also pledged to stand stead-fast against anarchy and socialism within Europe, holding together a conservative regime and the traditional authority of the monarchy. Politically, they have vowed to retain close ties with the Co-Axial Pact of Nations and the new order of Europe.

ELECTIONS IN ICELAND. Reykjavik, Iceland. The Icelandic Workers' Party suffered a severe setback this year as backlash against the apparent failure of the government to make any true progression for workers' rights. Statements have unhinged the nation's regime as the government has been appropriately accused of putting national funds into military development rather than social concerns. Pledging to right these wrongs and develop the stature of the Icelandic worker, the more conservative Progressive Democratic Movement has garnered the support from several former leaders of the Workers' Party. The position of Consul has been obtained by the Progressive Democratic Movement, but the Althing continues to be mostly controlled by the Workers' Party. The new Consul has pledged to desocialize some fields of industry and production over the next few years, as well as other elements of domestic reform. (-2 Stability)

BULGARIAN ECONOMIC SURGE. Sofia, Bulgaria. Bulgarian economists have reported extensive economic growth this year, as trading on the Black Sea has grown with the loss of several nations from the Russian Federation. The increased amount of trade in the region has resulted in the use of Bulgarian ports as a staging point for the merchant fleet. This in turn has brought about a boom along the Bulgarian coast for the local economy. The Black Sea has quickly become a epicenter for trade, as reconstruction efforts go full hilt in the Turkish Republic and Ukraine.

POLISH RESEARCH MAKES GREAT STRIDES. Warsaw, Poland. A Polish university's temporary airfield has announced significant advancements in aeronautics over the course of the year, working independently of foreign control for the first time. A series of lucky discoveries has led to improved process on Poland's research towards modernization of air war combat training. Increasing amounts of effort have led to the success of the continuing program, and the Polish government has announced that the air force should be fully modernized within the next four years. LISISTS DISCREDITED AFTER ATTEMPTED TAKEOVER IN BOHEMIA. Prague, Bohemia. Leaders of the Bohemian Lisist Party attempted to secure full control for themselves in Bohemia this year, attempting to force the King to acknowledge their absolute control. King Francis immediately refused their demands, at the risk of his own life, allowing the military to arrive and arrest the Lisist Party leaders. The end result is a massive upswing in the King's popularity, as the Lisist Party effectively is destroyed from their own greed for power. A moderate Chancellor from the Bundstag has been chosen from the ranks of the Federative Party, with the hopes that he will rebuild the nation's faith in the elected government. Regardless of the new solution, the next elections will go ahead in 1953, as the new regime hopes to achieve further support for a more moderate agenda and a return to European neutrality. STRIKES LAUNCHED IN SWEDEN. Stockholm, Swedish Empire. The success of the Unity Party and the statements of the new King Gustav VI have brought to the forefront growing class conflict and anger from the lower classes. Though the recent calls for improved Swedish nationalism and the reunification of the Swedish Empire have rallied support from the middle and upper classes, the truth from the ground is that the average Swede has little desire for further military combat. Organized primarily by the Swedish Workers' Party, a massive strike has been launched by workers across the country, shutting down the transportation industry as railroad and harbor workers walk off their jobs. The strikers have called for immediate reform to aid in the plight of the Swedish worker, calling for new safety legislation as well as higher wages and other benefits. The Unity Party Chancellor has refused to negotiate, and has threatened to call in the military if the strikes persist into next year. (-1 Stability for Sweden and all colonies)

KRUSHENKO REGIME OUSTED IN UKRAINE. Kiev, Ukraine. A popular movement led by a local leader, Nikita Khrushchev, has resulted in the overthrow of the Krushenko military government in the Ukraine. As a union leader within both the Russian Federation and the fledgling Ukrainian nation, Khrushchev has rallied considerable support from the grunts in the military and the average worker. With a quick purging of the upper ranks of the military, the reorganized force has pledged full support to the new republican regime which has been established. The new republic of Ukraine has drawn up a fresh federative constitution, with the first elections to be held in 1952. For now, Khrushchev has selflessly volunteered to remain as president until the first elections can be held and the government is established. (+1 Stability)

NEW ERA FOR BRITAIN. London, France. The French victory over England has at last brought the end to the long-standing French and English rivalry, leading to the complete conclusion of the remnants of the Second World War. The French have announced that the sovereign English nation shall no longer exist to pose a threat to the stability of Europe. The French have declared that the whole of southern England will remain under occupation to be integrated into the larger Imperium. Talks have begun with the Irish Republic over the fate of Wales, which have been declared to be a part of historic Celtic territory, which should be reformed. While the French occupational authorities have refused to comment upon the possibility, Wales could be annexed by Ireland or given a new independent status. The nation of Scotland has also been reformed, with the elimination of the monarchy and the establishment of a new Lisist government modeled upon that of France. Northern England has been granted to de jure Scottish control, though at the moment, French troops continue to be highly active in both England and Scotland, preserving the stability against the last active remnants of the English army.

African/Middle Eastern News Report

TURKISH ELECTIONS. Ankara, Turkish Republic. The Turkish Workers' Party has continued to maintain control over the Congress and office of Prime Minister, as the socialistic movement has garnered some support through their domestic works. Having kept the nation fed and watered throughout the rough postwar period, the Turkish government has pledged new social programs to modernize the nation's educational system as well as to provide an overall higher standard of living. They have been met by increasing opposition from the growing left-wing radical factions, who have called for a total People's State where all resources and industry are owned by the government. To counter this, various Islamic and reactionary groups have been calling for a more militarist approach to Turkey's reconstruction. (-1 Stability)

JORDAN ELECTIONS RESULT IN CHANGE. Amman, Jordan. The Democratic Left Party has at last been removed from power in the nation of Jordan. Recent events in Palestine have led to the rise of support for Islamic leaders in the region and by association, the conservative Islamic Democratic Movement have had considerable success in Jordan's Congress. The rise of the Jewish extremists in Palestine and their militarism has risen much concern in Jordan, as the nation struggles to build up its military in the case of further aggression against other Muslims. The Jordanian government has pledged to build up its ties with Rashid Arabia and other local powers internationally. (-1 Stability)

KURDISTAN ELECTIONS. Mosul, Kurdistan. In an increasing international trend towards militarism and conservatism, the Kurdish people have removed the long-standing Democratic Society Party from political power. The old government's trends towards pacifism and cooperation with other neighboring powers have alienated the military, who have campaigned heavily for the opposition. With support of the militarist elements of the Kurdish nation, the Patriotic Union Party has achieved political power in both the nation's Duma and for the office of Presidency. Already, rumors of martial development and future warfare have bounded through the nation. Demands have already begun against the Turkish Republic for increased access to the Mediterranean Sea, threatening dire consequences. (-1 Stability)

SOUTH AFRICAN ELECTIONS. Capton, Republic of South Africa. The Republic of South Africa went through further elections this year, under continuing watch of the Republic of New England. The South African government has faced some trouble by the collapse of the Democratic Alliance, a moderate coalition. Conservative and liberal elements of the political coalition have caused a growing rift in the government, and the unified front of the Democratic Alliance collapsed under the pressure. The liberal United Democratic Movement has called for further isolation from the New England government in favor of an isolationist course. In opposition is the National Democratic Convention which has called for stronger ties with the empire, as well as improved local military strength. The politics of the season were brutal, leading to much polarization and confusion among the populace. The end result was the eventual victory of the United Democratic Movement, and the establishment of the new regime. (-2 Stability)

NEW LEADERSHIP SEIZES POWER IN BLOODY BATTLE IN IRAQ. Basra, Iraq. Republican leaders have launched a bid for power in Iraq this year, only to be unpleasantly surprised that the al-Hassan regime was awaiting their move. For over three months, the capital of Basra became a no-go area as heavy fighting tore the city apart between the two factions. The military itself became divided across the country, leading to battles for control over the various bases and other communities throughout the Middle Eastern nation. The fighting came to a climax after it became clear that the republicans were winning over the countryside and with the fall of Baghdad, the numbers soon tilted in their favor. On October 27th, the remnants of the supporters of the al-Hassan government surrendered or fled into the friendly nation of Arabistan. A new republic has been declared and elections are scheduled to be held in 1953, while the provisional government takes efforts to form a new constitution by the end of 1952. (-1 Stability)

COUP ATTEMPT FAILS IN LIBERIA. Forsythville, Liberia. A new attempt has been made for personal power in the small African republic of Liberia, as a local popular native leader attempted to seize power through the military. Unfortunately for his ambitions, the officers he approached were more loyal to the republic than previously anticipated, leading to his abrupt arrest. Several other conspirators were discovered in further interrogation and investigation, leading to over three dozen arrests in the plot against the democratically elected government. The people of Liberia have shown their support for the elected regime in several celebrations and rallies across the country bearing good news for the future of the stability of Liberia, despite even economic downturns. SLAVE UPRISING IN OVAMBIA! Leesburg, Ovambia. An attempted uprising was launched by slaves in a regional party of Ovambia, meeting only with disaster. Planned by former Haitian soldiers, who had been enslaved after their attempted invasion over two decades ago, the revolt should have had a greater success. However, one slave betrayed his brothers in exchange for his own freedom and transportation to Liberia. The Ovambian military was present and prepared when the slaves launched their strikes against their overlords. The retaliation was swift and brutal, as the Ovambian government used the apparatus of modern war to crush the uprising, killing hundreds, whether they were involved with the rebellion or not. Though it is believed that some slaves may have used the opportunity to escape, it in undeniable that the Ovambian government has thoroughly crushed this bid for freedom. (+2 Stability)

ZIONISTS BLOODILY SEIZE POWER IN PALESTINE. Jerusalem, Israel. As a center for predominantly Jewish refugees from Europe during the course of the Second World War, the locals have been growing support for a resurrection of the nation of Israel. With demographics showing that Jews at last became the majority in the past few years, elements of the military led by Jewish leaders were offered power and glory in exchange for their cooperation. A coup was launched, but as the Jews attempted to disarm Islamic members of the army, they rose against them, fighting to maintain their power. The civilian government suffered similar infighting, as Jewish members of Congress called for a new government, leading to further fighting. The Christian population of the state provided what aid they could to both sides, leading to ever increasing bloodshed throughout the country. Ultimately, the Jews emerged victorious and the new state of Israel was proclaimed, and Jerusalem was given its proper name away from Islamic domination. The new emergency government of Israel has announced that its enemies are surrounding it and that for now authoritarian power will remain intact until the situation has been secured. These views have been confirmed as the flood of Islamic refugees from the region have led to the mobilization of the Rashid, Jordanian, and Egyptian militaries in the area to secure their borders. The Syrian government has moved forwards its own forces, though it has appealed for a diplomatic solution before any more blood is spilled. (-1 Stability)

STRIKES LAUNCHED IN SYRIA AMID ELECTIONS LEAD TO POSSIBLE CIVIL WAR. Damascus, Syria. The recent unrest in Palestine has led to considerable political turmoil in Syria. The Coalition for Christian Democracy has fallen under considerable political fire with their tacit support for the Jewish takeover in the new state of Israel. The official recognition extended to the government sparked the launching of a nation-wide strike among factory workers and Islamic public employees. The influx of Islamic refugees from the south have caused increased concern among the population, as the situation begins to tremble in Syria as well. The Coalition for Christian Democracy responded with calls for the strikers to respect the democratic process, declaring that they would continue to support the new government of Israel as long as they remain in power. The radical Muslim Brotherhood has managed to play off these statements, calling for the Muslims of the country to rally behind the party against Christian and Jewish conspiracies. The religious fervor which has been sparked by the establishment of Israel and current politics have resulted in the success of the Muslim Brotherhood in the elections. The militias of the Brotherhood and the Coalition for Christian Democracy have been assembled as a civil war appears to be looming. (-3 Stability, Recruitment Policy switched to Neo-Feudal)

Several New Englander businessmen were attacked throughout the year, left seriously injured or dead by unruly mobs. The government of Yemen has continued to pronounce its loyalty to the empire and rule, declaring martial law in the main urban centers of the country. This has done little to ease the situation as the military remains wary about opening fire upon their fellow countrymen. The New Englander imperial representative has announced that further imperial regulars will be brought in to help maintain order in the protectorate. (-1 Stability)

PREPARATIONS BEGIN FOR 1952 OLYMPICS. Barcelona, France. As determined before, the nations of the world have begun making their sporting choices and preparations for the Olympics in Barcelona next year. While construction is ongoing in the city, it is being used for a conference on two important topics for the sporting event. The development of air conditioning by Persian manufacturers allows for the potential opportunity to allow for games which could only be previously done in the cold of winter. Some have been arguing that the Olympic games could be divided into winter and summer events, but opponents of the idea state that too few cold weather games exist for a successful winter event. The other decision at hand is the choice for the location of the 1956 Olympic Games. The first of the options is the city of Paris, capital of the new European economy, though some feel it may be unfair to have two French cities consecutively host the games. The second option is the Virginian city of Baltimore, a center of North American culture and development, which may be more suiting following Barcelona. Lastly, the third city considered is the community of Caracas, as the Venezuelan government has offered considerable support for any construction for the games. A decision is to be announced at the events of next year's games.

WORLD CUP GAMES. Providence, Republic of New England. For the first time in the short history of the World Cup and professional football, an Asiatic nation has won the series. The national team of Korean successfully fought its way to the final game of the season, facing off against the Republic of New England's favored team. The game was locked in a draw for the first three quarters of the game, until near the very end, the Korean team scored the vital goal which won them the Cup. The Korean team has returned home to much glory and triumph, received in a ceremony headed by King Yi Jin himself.

  • Try to switch to a better rifle sometime
  • If we are going to build up the military focus mostly on air force
  • If we build tanks, make it the D-Zero
  • Keep up all training with the military and encourage some of the older generals (especially the more independent ones) to retire and take up prestigious teaching and staff positions at our military academies.
  • If one of the other APACS countries needs some money to push through a project or research tech and we have some extra cash, give it to them.

Mexican Guidelines for the time being

Continue reparation payments to the allies.
Continue to invest in Industrial Tech.
Develop more modern small arms when possible.
Economic growth/recovery. Efforts will focus on finding more markets so that Mexican industry can return to its prewar heights.
Maintain stability and territorial integrity of Mexico.
Attempt to improve relations with other North American nations where possible.

Also: The Conservatives shouldn't be entirely anti-Yucatan. They will likely denounce the Yucatani traitors but only the radicals would push for war against them so soon.
