A New Dawn Bug Reports and Feedback

Feedback. Are we still permanently saddled with vassals who always accede when you demand tribute, and have no hope of growing large enough (50% of your civ size iirc) to break away? I just remembered why I always instituted a take-no-prisoners policy previously because I'm now stuck with a bunch of deadweights.

Next time I'm going to behead Charles V rather than show mercy. Clearly no good deed goes unpunished. At least vassals don't contribute to Revolution instability, right? >_>

I think so, both of your questions. IIRC there's a way to demand tributes from your vassals and they don't always agree (which means war). But maybe I could lower that 50% to 30% or 25% to make it easier for vassals to break away. What do you think?

Hmm, tricky - at this point the map was mostly settled, so the vassal civs didn't really have room to grow. At best maybe they could add a new city or two. Worse, I couldn't even give them the enemy cities I captured. I suppose in the long run I could probably raze enough enemy cities to make room then gift the vassals a bunch of settlers; thing is, I recall civs hoarding settlers since they'd rather not settle cities in awkward areas (e.g. cut off from their other cities). So that wouldn't work either.

Would it be possible to make them more sensitive to tribute demands? Personally I think a time-enforced limit a la peace treaties works better, but no idea how hard that would be to implement.

Edit: Would it be interesting if you could bribe them to go away? Like a normal trade but with the goal to get the vassal status removed.

One thing you can do when dealing with vassals is try to bribe one of their cities (turning on the Bribe Mission in BUG). I tried that once and was surprised by the instant declaration of war.

I'm not 100% sure how things work but as I've explained some time ago, I'd like to make some changes that probably involve heavy dll modding I'm not sure I'm able to do (but I'm still testing in this sense from time to time): right now Vassals are vassals and nothing else; but there are some differences between them nonetheless: some are colonies which you've granted independence to, others are small nations looking for protections, others are enemies which have capitulated. They have small differences in behaviour but they're all vassals. I'd like to enhance differences between them: Afforess once wanted to do it but the project was never completed - or started at all, AFAIK. For example having vassals in transhuman era looks weird to me, at least the name should be different. Food for thought, for the moment. But maybe in some months we could speak about it again, maybe when we'll have to rework civics.

In few recent games in And 1.75 C, i cannot promote missile (V1, cruise- and precision) units. Everything else seems to work normally. No problems in aircraft promotions for example, only missile units. Experience counter doesn't even show in bottom left when missile unit is selected.

I have been able to promote them in past but not recently. Fresh installs attempted. Any clue what is going on ?

Either your friend has renamed his Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn folder or he has also plain RoM installed because python is looking in that folder. Uninstall RoM before playing with AND or at least rename RoM to something else.

Thanks!

We tried a few times to play MP but lots of OOS. Were you interested in any logs or something to help solve? Your working on OOS aren't you?

Reisk@, AND1.75 isn't supported since a very long time and it's full of problems in comparison with the latest SVN Revision. I have no clue on your problem, but I strongly suggest you try the latest AND2 revision. :)

Yes I am. How long since you tried MP? Latest revision seems pretty stable at least up to early Renaissance. I've played with my wife around 300 turns with just 3-4 OOS (blitz speed), using Revolution and many other options. If you can provide more logs, it will be useful. Make sure both of you have a fresh install, same BUG options, clear your cache, fresh Civilization.ini, all logs enabled. Most important are OOS logs found in main BTS folder and random logs in the logs folder. Thank you! :)

I've found a translation problem:
An event pops the steve bonnet pirate with some fast galleons. However, the string "fast galleon" isn't found in the Text folder. It is directly written in "CvRandomEventInterface.py" in Assets\Python\.
Code:
if loopUnit.getUnitType() == iUnitType1:
	loopUnit.setName("Barque")
if loopUnit.getUnitType() == iUnitType2:
	loopUnit.setName("Fast Galleon")

I think it should refer to a text string !

No, there is just this small problem not bucketfull. Hoped that someone might know and remember the cause.

And2 has a crappy culture system, 1.75 beats it hands down.

What are you talking about? Culture is just the same in 1.75C and AND2. :confused:
Better, you have 2 different culture systems in AND2 that you can choose from in gameoptions, if this is your problem: either you can have 8 tiles around the city always own to the city owner, or you can have those 8 tiles depending on strongest culture. So I really don't know what your talking about when you say it's "crappy".

I don't either, and I'd been playing the old build until recently. Pretty sure the fixed culture border - if that's what the complaint is about - is both optional and off by default. Ditto realistic culture spread. I have both left off, and it doesn't feel any different than the old version.

Just couple of days ago. We tried 2 games, both time multiple OOS over 20 or so turns. Here are the logs.

Both wrong.

Is that so ? Previously i have been told here that the 8 tiles are hardcoded and that this option is mandatory. What option allows to remove them ?

I know, I've changed it in the dll. Now those 8 tiles limit is off by default. You can enable it with Minimum City Border option. ;)

It's an option on the start game screen at the very bottom in the latest SVNs. Just leave it unchecked and the 8 tiles culture problem is gone now in AND. A very nice change that makes culture wars a real possibility again.

EDIT -> oops, beaten by 45, too many tabs open :D

Nice job, so much for that "hard"coding.

I'm looking the 2.1 final and can't find this minimum city border in starting options to make sure that it is off. Should it be there or in crtl+alt+o-pages ?

Edit: Urtho seems to have answered this. Is there a downloadable version without this 8 tile nuisance ? I don't want to play with svns.

It's a more recent change, I suggest you download the latest revision because it has other bugs fixed and a new tech tree. Also when you install it, uninstall other AND revisions, clear your cache and delete Civilization.ini and .bak.
