A New Dawn Bug Reports and Feedback

Heyo.

I installed A New Dawn quite a while ago, but never got around to playing it until a few days ago. When I started up a new game, I discovered that the entire interface was gone (or invisible, I'm not sure). The only thing I was able to do was hit escape to access the menu with 'Exit to Desktop' and 'Save Game' and the like, or use hotkeys to move my two starting units around.

Obviously it'd be pretty difficult playing the game with no interface whatsoever, so I closed out and came to report it here.

I have the same issue!

I get an error on the screen which I don't understand. If I save the game then exit to desktop load up Civ4:bts then load up my saved game everything works fine. I get into Civ4:ROM AND with the UI interface.

However I do find two issues that happen, if I save the game and load I find strange things happen like I'll get an extra warrior or all of a sudden the computer has researched a few techs over me.

Also my game always just randomly closes, I'll hit enter for next turn and I'm back to the windows desktop instantly.

I'm using the latest version from svn. Downloaded it 2 days ago trying to solve my problems with the UI missing.

It's always the same problem, it's always the same solution. Remove every previous version of AND or ROM before installing the last one, clear your cache and restart the game.

A little feedback. Occasionally I notice - via spies - that AIs horde hoard a bunch of missionaries (of their religion) in a city without deploying them. I saw this behaviour in the AND2.1 stable release, and r675 & r676 (I haven't updated to the latest, r677).

Not sure how often this happens, but so far in each game I've encountered a city with a stack of missionaries - like, 10+ of them, just sitting there in a city. It was clearly not for the owner civ's own use - he had fewer cities, and they already all had the religion.

Is this in preparation for trolling other civs by anticipating open border treaties?

If Religion Victory Condition is checked then this behaviour is seen. Even moreso with a Leader that has Spiritual as a Leader Trait.

I didn't know this. I don't often disable that victory condition, but I was always wondering what that line of missionaries spanning a third of the continent were thinking

I might as well turn it off in my games, since I've been playing with Mastery most of the time to encourage me actually reaching the Transhuman segment of the game, which never seems to happen if I make do with Domination/Diplomatic/Conquest :D

I read this solution on another post before so I tried that. I removed ROM and AND, I even removed all the files from "My Documents" related to civ4. I'm not sure if I cleared my cache right but from what I read I hold down shift while the game loads up.

All these with the same results. I'll try once again and hopefully have no issues. Cheers.

Isn't there a bug with the glasswork building ? It is shown as a national wonder but the building is proposed to be built in each of my towns ?

It can be built three times if I recall. Is it still coming up in the list after it's been used three times?

I never noticed this since I tend to only build the Glassmith, Cement Mill, and etc only once.

No, i have only built it once but it is kind of confusing. I think it should be written in the description, right under "National wonder limit".

Hi, not sure whether this has been mentioned yet or not...

I've noticed for some time now (numerous revisions) that the Wonder screen, which lists the built Wonders along with the city name and owner, is often blank. Not always, but after some undetermined point in the game. The other statistics screens work: all the line graphs, and also the top five cities, are shown correctly.

I play with "Unlimited Wonders".

Cheers,
A.

The cache is stored in different folders depending on your OS. Under Win7 it's in \Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Local\My Games\Beyond The Sword\cache .

I don't know where it's stored on Win 8 and forget where it is stored on Vista or XP. But I think the key is Applications.

It's written in the Pedia.

Thanks,

I searched up and found the cache folder and deleted that. Then started from scratch and it worked.

However I still get the random closes sometimes (happen twice out of 4 games). As soon as I click on the red button to take next turn I'm back at the desktop.

When this happens there should be a MiniDump.dmp file created in the Main BtS Directory. Compress this file (.zip. .rar, or 7z) and Upload. Also if you can go back to the preceding turn and try playing thru see if it will CTD again. Be sure to "Save: that preceding turn. If it does CTD then upload the Save game too with details on what you did so that it can be traced and matched with the MiniDump file to find the source of the problem. Upload both to this thread Please.

Thanks

Event logging has been enabled in his Civ4_Config file. Change the setting.

Either your friend has renamed his Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn folder or he has also plain RoM installed because python is looking in that folder. Uninstall RoM before playing with AND or at least rename RoM to something else.
