It's not like I have anything better to do with my time than annoy people in positions of relative authority.

A staff consensus and administrative decision has been reached overhauling postcount policy. Administration is now planning implementation as time become available. Several additional fora will now count for postcount. Specific announcements will be made regarding particular fora as implementation proceeds. Partial implementation, turning on current postcount in several fora, MAY be seen as early as before Monday. Some fora MAY wait until after further reorganization concerning Other Games/Forum Games. Full implementation, which involves rebuilding some database tables to take account of past posts, will wait until both a block of time for the admins and low sever load are available.

I can tell you're from management. :p

Translation: We're going to grant some of your requests. It won't happen immediately, but probably soon, as time permits. We'll let you know.

Unstated but probably included: Please be patient.

:)

I'm ok with this.

With all the countless hours I've poured into IOT, a "maybe" answer is much better than nothing. I really hope post counts make it to IOT...

As always I'll be happy to flag spam posts even moreso than I already do. Fortunately the issue doesn't seem as big as it used to be (at least in the games I'm part of; a simple "please keep posts on topic or I'll request moderator assistance" post is usually enough to keep spam to a minimum), so we should be fine...

Translation from someone who actually knows:

Be patient and you will be pleased. The process is more complicated that one might think. The timing will be as soon as possible given admin work loads and server usage.

So the archives will get postcount?! :D
No, Not archived threads. Archiving threads removes them from many of the database functions of the forum, which is the point of archiving them, reducing load. Postcount will still evaporate for threads moved to archives. Rebuilding the database will add postcount for prior posts in fora that were postcount off and have been switched to postcount on.

So, for IOT, if pc gets added to that forum, then the rebuilding process would add pc to all of those members who have posted there in the past. I'm guessing that without the rebuild, old posts may not get counted.

That is my (pitiful) understanding. That when postcount gets turned on, only posts after that automatically get added to the members postcount, and the database rebuild of the postcount tables is needed for earlier posts to be added.

I really need to buy of copy of VBulletin for Dummies, so I can understand more of the technical stuff.

As for who is going to get postcount added, that announcement is reserved to the admins, when they are ready to hit the switch, but "additional fora" covers much of what currently has postcount off. So, have happy anticipation.

I've posted the link to the online vBulletin manual elsewhere in Site Feedback. It's freely available. So is the support forum.

I had actually bookmarked the support forum earlier today. I Looked at one of the video tutorials there. So dullllllllll. I do better with text.
