That is baffling. Why would you keep part of a loose-leaf Qur'an literally lying around?
 
I thought I'd revive this thread to post this genuinely surreal story which even made it onto Have I Got News For You:

Police have been called after a bizarre and dangerous chase across a Stroud beauty spot. Three elderly people were seen off-roading across Minchinhampton Common, luring cattle behind them with carrots - one woman was sitting in the boot, dangling out of the back of the car, said Nailsworth resident Ali Elderfield.

“They were literally off-roading in a Micra and the boot was open with this woman sat in there, laughing and holding carrots out for the cows, but the cows chased as the car drove over the grass. The driver was near the road, all the cows then started running in the road. The man driving and woman is passenger seat all looked like they were in their 60s and were all laughing. The cows looked distressed too as they were swinging their heads around and running right by the car! It's really dangerous."

The Micra was around 12 years old and dark blue and the occupants of the car were all over the age of 60 said Ali. Around 300 cattle, a small number of horses and a donkey called Alfie roam the commons freely under ancient commoners' rights. The commons are administered by the National Trust and most vehicles are not allowed to venture more than 15 yards off the road. Hayward Mark Dawkins, who cares for the animals on the two commons, said cattle like to eat carrots but the public should not feed them.

“They like carrots but this is a very curious incident," said Mr Dawkins. “I am going up there but I am told they have gone now."

He confirmed that this year, six cattle had died in collisions with vehicles on the unfenced commons of Rodborough and Minchinhampton. The cattle will be taken off the commons at the end of October and will return next May.

Some bizarre news from Indonesia:

JAKARTA - Indonesian police announced on Wednesday (Nov 16) that Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama has been declared a suspect over alleged blasphemy, an offence that carries a maximum jail term of five years if a district court declares him guilty.

The police announcement comes after more than 100,000 Muslims took to the streets of Jakarta on November 4 to demand that he be sacked and prosecuted for allegedly insulting Islam. (...)

The brouhaha started in September after a video clip of Mr Basuki, better known as Ahok, was posted online. In the video, he is heard telling a group of constituents during a community event not to be misled by his opponents who were urging Muslims against choosing a non-Muslim as a leader by referring to a verse in the Quran.

Mr Basuki has since apologised for his remarks, but a police investigation was initiated after an outcry from some Muslim leaders as well as the hardline Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), which led the mass march.

The principal of a Taiwanese school whose students held a mock Nazi rally for a Christmas parade has resigned.

Cheng Hsiao-ming, head of the Kuang Fu High School in Hsinchu, said he took "full responsibility" and apologised.

Friday's "rally" featured a parade of swastika banners and a cardboard tank carrying one student performing a Nazi salute.

The Taipei Times said that one of the school's teachers, Liu Hsi-cheng, had suggested Arabic culture as the theme for the parade but the students decided to go with Adolf Hitler after two rounds of voting.

Alec Baldwin's Trump act fools newspaper



Actor Alec Baldwin's impression on Saturday Night Live of Donald Trump tricked a national newspaper into thinking he was the real thing.

El Nacional in the Dominican Republic has now apologised for accidentally publishing a still of Alec Baldwin, captioned as the US president, next to Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

The image accompanied an article about Israeli settlements.

The picture was sent to the newspaper along with information about Saturday Night Live, the long-running US satirical programme.

Well. An official investigation confirmed that various military vessels sunk during WW II have been efficiently lifted, dismantled and sold (not necessarily in that order). This seems to be a profitable business in Southeast Asia. The joint Dutch-Indonesian investigation confirmed the complete disappearance of the cruisers De Ruyter and Java and the destroyer Kortenaer, which were all sunk during the Battle of the Java Sea in 1942.

Recycling is good for you. (Although sometimes it's criminal.)

there is an exhibition on at present (or just finished) in Darwin which was bombed about 100 times in WW11 as an example of peace between Japan and Australia

A Christian numerologist claims that the world will end next Saturday when a planet will, supposedly, collide with Earth.
According to Christian numerologist David Meade, verses in Luke 21:25 to 26 are the sign that recent events, such as the recent solar eclipse and Hurricane Harvey, are signs of the apocalypse.
The verses read:

“25: There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken.'

"'26: Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.'

Sept. 23 is a date that was pinpointed using codes from the Bible, as well as a "date marker" in the pyramids of Giza in Egypt.

Meade's views are not endorsed by Roman Catholic, Protestant or eastern Orthodox branches of Christianity.

Meade has built his theory on the so-called Planet X, which is also known as Nibiru, which he believes will pass Earth on Sept. 23, causing volcanic eruptions, tsunamis and earthquakes, according to British newspaper The Sun.

You know how Republican America is like with the "pro$perity go$pel" and the usual number of cranks, crack pots and scammers. Then later on it is just a spiritual Apocalypse, sucks to be the faithful that took on massive loans or gave away everything. Because Obama is the Antichrist etc
