Weird News III - Beyond the Bizarre

More funny than weird, but one of the big boys of cybersecurity has got hacked. FireEye, market cap 3.64B currently (the beeb says their share price has crashed, but it is currently within 16% of their max), and someone stole their toys. I reckon there are going to be some serious discussions in the boardrooms of their clients today. I find it amazing that a company like this, which other companies are paying massive amounts to for security, are not doing basic things like network segregation. Their argument is that it must have been state level, 'cos they were so good. I do not believe it, that is blatantly marketing (post horse bolting marketing).

Beeb said:
US cybersecurity firm FireEye says it has recently been attacked by a "highly sophisticated threat actor", believing the hacking was state-sponsored.
In a blog, FireEye CEO Kevin Mandia said company tools used for testing customers' security had been stolen.
"The attacker primarily sought information related to certain government customers," he wrote.
The blog did not say who might have carried out the attack. The firm and the FBI are investigating the hack.
FireEye share price plunged following the company's acknowledgement of the hack.
"Based on my 25 years in cyber security and responding to incidents, I've concluded we are witnessing an attack by a nation with top-tier offensive capabilities," Mr Mandia said in Tuesday's blog, adding that the hack was "different from the tens of thousands of incidents we have responded to throughout the years".
"The attackers tailored their world-class capabilities specifically to target and attack FireEye.
"They used a novel combination of techniques not witnessed by us or our partners in the past," the blog said.

wannabeism much ... ı understand Maverick has been demoted far down for doing the same , that's how he can fly a fighter in Top Gun 2 , despite he would already have been retired even if he had become the very top officer in the US system , because of the years of service ... And yeah , it also involves sending messages who watch from above ; did Merkel ask Putin for help after the desecration taking place in Germany ?

Czech deer auditioning for Bambi 2

Police in the Czech Republic have put out an unusual request after a deer stole a hunter’s gun. It fled the scene with the gun lodged in its antlers.
The deer was startled by a dog and charged straight towards a member of a party of hunters. They were hunting in the woods near the town of Horní Planá, not far from the Austrian border.
The 22 Hornet repeating rifle became attached to the deer’s antlers as the animal ripped the sleeve of the man’s jacket.

Dancing starlings cause power cuts
An engineer investigating mystery power outages in a Scottish village has discovered they were caused by a spectacular murmuration of starlings.
Villagers in Airth, near Falkirk, were bewildered by the brief early-evening interruptions to their power supply.
Initially power firm SP Energy Networks was also unable to explain the problem.
But their engineer Neil McDonald finally solved the mystery when he spotted thousands of birds "dancing" on overhead power cables.

After three years and roughly a dozen stolen packages, Laurie Pringle was fed up. Her neighbours were too.

Living in a row home on a busy downtown Hamilton street, the 54-year-old said she and her neighbours knew they had to do something to stop porch pirates from stealing any packages. So they plotted.

"We were chatting. I have a puppy, they have a German Shepherd, and we jokingly said, 'We should just fill it up with dog doo.' Of course, my little puppy couldn't fill a box if we waited a week," Pringle said.

And then she got a spur of the moment idea.

"While I was cleaning the cat litter, I thought, 'It wouldn't take much to fill a box with this stuff' and so I thought, 'You know, it's Christmas time and maybe I should help Santa with the naughty list, and instead of coal, we can give the porch pirates some cat crap.'"

She dumped the cat litter into the box, taped it up and left it outside her front door. She positioned the box so the Amazon logos stayed face up and would look like any other package.

Roughly 40 minutes later, a man walked up to her front step, picked up the package and left.

Naked fugitive rescued from mangroves by Australian fishermen

Two fishermen have rescued a naked fugitive who they found clinging to trees over a crocodile-infested swamp in northern Australia.
Kev Joiner and Cam Faust stumbled across the man in East Point near the city of Darwin on Sunday.
The friends were laying crab traps when they heard the man crying for help, clinging to the branches of mangroves.
They said the man begged them for water and said he had been out there for four days, living off snails.
Australian TV network 9News said the 40-year-old man had allegedly breached bail for armed robbery.
The fishermen allowed the man to hop on board their boat, with Mr Faust offering him his shorts to cover his modesty.
"He had scratches all over him, he was completely covered in mosquito bites, mud all over his face and his chest," Mr Joiner told 9News. "He was suffering pretty bad."
There are a few good pictures, this is my favorite as it is so aussie:

Florida manatee with 'Trump' etched on back prompts investigation

US wildlife authorities have launched an investigation after a manatee was discovered with the word 'Trump' scraped on its back.
The marine mammal was spotted on Sunday in Florida's Homosassa River, with the US president's surname on its body.
Officials told AP news agency that the animal does not appear to be seriously injured, and the word was scraped onto algae growing on its skin.
But a video of the West Indian manatee has led to public outcry.
Manatees, nicknamed "sea cows," are protected under US law, and anyone found guilty of harassing them faces up to a year in prison and a $50,000 (£37,000) fine.
Images of the animal was first shared by the Citrus County Chronical, a local newspaper, and have been widely shared on social media.

Husband on leash breached Quebec's Covid curfew

A couple in Canada have been fined for breaking Covid curfew rules after the woman was caught "walking" her husband on a leash, according to local media.

The woman reportedly told police that she was just out "walking her dog" near their home in the city of Sherbrooke, in Quebec province.

On Saturday the province imposed a nightly curfew between 20:00 and 05:00.

Walking a dog close to home is one of the only acceptable reasons to be outside between those times.

The pair were spotted by police at around 9pm on Saturday night, just a short while after the new rules came into effect.

They reportedly told police that they were following the rule for pets. Isabelle Gendron, of the Sherbrooke Police Department, told the local newspaper La Tribune the couple "did not co-operate with the police at all".

They were each fined CA$1,546 ($1,212; £893).

Police across Quebec issued 750 tickets for violations during the first weekend of the curfew.

Canada has seen a recent surge in Covid-19 infections, nearing 670,000 total cases since the pandemic began.

On Monday Quebec's premier François Legault called on residents to respect social distancing rules, saying "I know it's difficult, but Quebeckers are able to work as a team when necessary."

He warned that the situation in the province's largest city Montreal was "really critical" and said hospitals were nearing the point where they would not be able to treat all patients.
