AbNESII - Technologic Thread

Awwww. well, he told me yesterday that the sole reason he isn't joining is because i'm in it.

OOC: Well, you never said that when you said that in school!!!!

IF YOU ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES IN THIS NES, TAKE IT ELSEWHERE!!!!

Geez, is this so hard to understand?

Sorry.

@the Mobandika: Are you developing a technology? For if so, we shall invest in it with you, so that we may also have it.

I'm just throwing this out their so people can give their opinions.

Basically I want to propagate something like the Civ tech tree

Anyone who takes this and runs with it (editing in things etc) will get bonus events in the next update [/bribe]

Hmm, crop rotation should be one thing that could lead to better metallurgy, being in the realm of agriculture, and by extention tool use.

Historically what is the order of progression through the metals?

Obviously metal exhists in this world, but currently is inefficient, and at its most basic. Metallurgy is the starting point that will launch us into the different kinds of metals

My opinion is it goes like this:

Meteraullagy > Copper tools > Iron tools > Strengthened Iron weapons (medieval type)...... and so on.
Copper Weapons > Iron Weapons > Strengthened Iron Weapons and so on.

Copper, Bronze (if tin is available), Iron (if tin is unavailable), Steel.

Of course, many other metals are used, but those ones are for the main military metals.

Yes that would be apropriate indeed.

Cheers Germy!

I forgot the Bronze, but thanks. I hope there is a reward.... ;)

Ok, so people are hitting each other with copper at the moment then.

What was being used in the medieval times? was that iron? When did steel come about?

Everyone who lends a hand here now will get one, if someone actually tackles the image file with things we agree upon, a very nice reward indeedy.

Steel came about during the RL Industrial revolution, so around 1700 to 1800's.

Strengthened Iron was used in the Medieval times. This is iron that is folded to reinforce the other side rather than flattened.

Ab, might I direct you to the PM I send you on Feb 6...

Well, since players already assume they are running around with metal, lets say its the discovery of copper rather than the basic bronze. Also, since its a biggie (don't forget these can be traded/sold/stolen etc)

I'll charge it at 8EP.

I didn't think about this until just now, but bronze came after copper (copper is an ingredient in bronze). First you had the soft metals like copper and gold, then people figured that you could mix copper + tin to make bronze. Later people learned how to work with hard metals like iron, and then after that they mixed iron + carbon to make steel. (Wiki)

So historically the order basically goes Copper -> Bronze -> Iron -> Steel.

Maybe instead of Metallurgy, we should call my research Bronze Working (or Iron Working, if everyone already has Bronze)?

I don't need any decision back soon (I'm researching it regardless of what it's called), but I thought I'd shoot you this so you could include the ruling in your update.

:)

question... What do you mean with "Anyone who takes this and runs with it (editing in things etc) will get bonus events in the next update [/bribe]", does it mean we are to discuss it, or can I post a tech tree which I made out of yours? :mischief:

Ah yes, thankyou again Sloaf ;)

An LJ, post away. I'll value everyones imput on its merit.

Well, the system seems logical. And it fits in with most historical events, so I'd say your tech tree is perfect, Abaddon.

I think the limiting factor on making different tools was how hot you could make your forge, because each metal in that list neededs a higher temperature to meltdown. Also stirrups aren't the first thing you need for calvary. Stirrups are the invention that allows you to make heavy calvary. Originally all calvary was light calvary or calvary archers. Also there are levels to crop rotation. Originally there was none then you had two fields then you went to three and then in the industrial revolution you had a four field crop rotation system. Then there are plows. Wooden plows, copper plows, bronze plows, iron plows, heavy plows, steal plows.
