About The Graphics of Civ VI

The consensus seems to be mediocre at best. Also that poll is based on a scale of 1 to 10 and doesn't have a mediocre choice spelled out as a selection.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

My father, who is 75 and plays Civilization V quite a bit, called me up after having played Civ VI some this morning. His very first comment was to complain about the graphic style. "I don't think it's a step forward," he said.

I'm so used to the way the game looks now that I had to think back to my original reaction to the first screenshots, which was essentially the same. I think the graphics are clear and functional, but garish and unattractive. And it's not just the civ fanatics who think so.

Since I'm used to the look, it doesn't bother me anymore, but having played the game for the first time I'm disappointed in the flow and usability of the UI. There are lot of hiccups and unnecessary extra clicks and lots of waiting for no good reason (especially in the diplomacy screens). I'm very surprised that it's so clunky.

Me too. I remember 'too much clicking' as being a major complaint when C5 first came out and here we are again. I find myself scrolling all over the screen trying to find the little button that needs to be clicked only to find myself having to click another button or cancel out of some other screen to finally get the screen I'm looking for. I have a feeling there will be a major UI overhall down the road.

I for one have played all of the Civ's. Why is this one so cartoony? (not sure a word)

Seems like I'm playing an IPAD app

Personally, I like the style.
In fact, if I can praise Civ 6 for anything, it's that it has a whole lot of style... from the map aesthetics to the FOW aesthetics to the leaders... I think it fits this type of game very well.

Would somebody mind making a Civ 6 style mod for Civ 5? I would be all over that... heck, I would pay money for that.

But I can go either way and see both sides.

I think the new style is pretty good, but certain things blend in too much. Pillaged tiles is the worst offender for me right now, very difficult to see them. I also think hills are not defined quite enough.

Civ V had the same issues with rivers and roads, and eventually they fixed that. But otherwise, I think the graphics are pretty good.

Forget what I said earlier about the graphics. I'm really enjoying the animations and the overall look since I started playing. The plains and grasslands could certainly use some more texture. This game is very playable zoomed in unlike earlier versions of Civ.

A picture speaks louder then words. Does anyone disagree?

For me it is the first Civ game that I have played where I do not feel like I am playing a Civ game so I guess I do agree!

Take a look at the CIv v layout with its cluttered landscape that gives life to the game. It makes the game feel more gritty and realistic in my opinion.

Then look at this picture of CIv 6, those aren't even shore lines and river beds! Why are there individual trees that try to pass off as thick vegetation? Why is the ground such a strange color of green? I'm so confused.

I agree with the OP... When I seen your picture of Civ V it just looks realistic to me and when I see that pic of Civ 6 I keep seeing that movie Shrek in my head.
