aCK-1 Behaving Ourselves

I'm going to be taking a trip to New York on friday, and I don't think I'll have a chance to play any sets until I get back on thursday the 9th. I might have occasional internet so I'll try to lurk until then. Hope we've got that second continent colonized by then!
 
seeing silver's dotmap makes me wonder if we want to bother with the N half of the continent. there are plenty of good cities in the south. if we concentrate on the south we might be able to keep wang off the good spots or have enough culture around to be able to convert his cities later on. so my opinion is settler-spam the south and just kind of ignore the north. get a strong base all in one spot with connected cultural borders.
 
Think of the New Lands as a big 'C' centered around the bay.

Starting in the NE...

Green west to Blue

Blue south to White

White East to Red.

Those 4 towns make the core of the best lands as they are the jungle belt full of grassland goodness.

Add to that Orange NE of Green as it is an amazing coastal town resource wise.

So where are we so far?

Blue and white are up and have borders popped/workers deployed. White is 9 turns from popping it's 3rd ring. Since we are in caste, can hire artists to speed up culture if need be for any town with food to support a spec or two.

One thing to note.. Since we are in free speech, all towns have innate +4 culture per turn just from being creative. :D

Red has has a settler +2 xbows guarding it on red dot proper... just need to kill that barb town on the hill.

Getting to green and orange isn't a problem because 2 galleons Fog busting that bay :lol: Was trivial to swing around south with the galleons and I managed to clear out a few barb galleys on the way. Those guys will be our canal until we have the workers to spare 30 odd worker turns to pop forts on those two jungle tiles just north of Tver.

The sticklers are red and green dots because they must take out the pos barb towns close by... yes we have a plan.

Between Struick and Liq (we both worked on this)

We are all set for ocean transports. 2 fully healed galleons are in the newly barb free bay while 4 are plying the passage from Vlad to white dot (Tver), one needing a bit of healing. Takes 5 turns to travel from vlad to tver btw.

We shipped over a total of 4x workers and there's a pack of barb donations hanging around somewhere South:D. Can use more sure sure but the workers back home have lumber mills to spam and rails soon.

7 xbows are in the area doing garrison for town and workers and one is transferring to Hut Buster North East to .... bust huts! Can detach a few to help clean up the barb towns if rolls go bad.

Have 3x Maces healing in Tver, Gus is CR3 Paul and Kurt are CR2 (they exped off the barb ruins just south of Tver)

Have 2x 5xp Knights Two turns from heading to the next barb town south who is holding red up.. Also have another 3xp Mace and 5xp Knight 6 turns back to help replace the losses taking out pos barb town south.

Have two settlers queued in Moscow for green and orange but for the most part next turn set will be building infra as we uh.. gained a couple of techs in my turn set.

Economy is doing great btw hehe.

Good stuff here gang...I really like how the dotmaps have evolved over the course of the last few days.

Can't wait to see the results of your set Liq as it would appear that you have loaded up on military in the New World and we appear to be on track to grabbing all the top real estate over there.

One thing I noticed...or didn't notice for that matter. There was no critique for my turnset...
Now there are two ways of looking at this. I either had a fine set with no real problems to critique or I goofed up along the way and no one pointed it out. I would like to think it was a solid set and played well but I know that the other option is still quite likely. Just wanna know either way.

OK so after uh an hour of trying to wrestle this new Ultraedit app thing into a plain Jane text editor with dynamic spell check, it actually seems to be working as advertised!!!! lets see if I can get the spell check to not spam like effing 60 billion options on which word liq meant.. nope, not yet, liq is too slow! Seems the word "effing" is already in the dictionary... wow, that's just total winz! meh I can deal with a screen high pos spell check option for now Liq guesses. Will spend more time on that function later as I know it's hidden in this app somewhere. It's like photoshop for text! WTFever yeah?

So time to spam all these various liq'isms so the app doesn't completely freak out.

Right, then back to civ.

MM a few things, stagnate one of the Y towns as it's close to caps, WTH ever one that is.

France is we have too much WTH on WTH mode.. if this game made any sense he would attack Germany but well we all know how this works. will stock up on krazy's troops a bit.

Ok onto the Oxford race Struick so aptly started!
Have 5 towns cooking universities so need one more... lets see which town wins!!!

No easy way to filter turns on the buildings that liq can find it appears so lets go manually as only 5 towns are building unis.
1. Nova is done in 16 turns working max hammers. ok this is important as it's the lower limit. If everything can complete before 16 turns, we are golden.

2.Moscow is done in 7, yawn
3.Pete's is done in 4, yawn

yawn = yeah wasn't worried about these two.


4. Yaroslawtf is done in 7, spot on.
5. Orenburg is on a sad sad 24... ok lets get work of a young cottage and work that hill mine... 15 now, that's better and only stalls growth 2 turns. Not bad at all!

So that means 5 unis done as nova finishes up... uh need one more.

Rostov and Vlad are out of the question... screw all that, they have important thigns to do!

So wow, looks like Sally dot (the town silver was saying wasn't worth building compared to izzy dot in TundraLand) is looking like the winner here! Not going to be pretty starting this late but well not sally's fault! Lets see the damage.

Mace in 3 turns uni in 20 growth in 2... ok lets stall the mace and work that desert mine in 2... about 17ish turns with the hill mines so about 17ish since the round off doesn't matter, wow not bad.

Btw useless trivia for you folks, the hammers in that mace won't start to decay until about 50ish turns epic... all rumor and hearsay!

Lesson here is Wang is holding all the tech cards AND the cash, no good. Education for mass cash sounds good though when we spill the tech.
Egypt has nice gold (450) and is getting printing press, which we have half researched, in 5. If he's willing to trade seeing as he's holding back engineering on us. Not sure but well that's worth waiting on.
Burger king has nothing but engineering in 2 so that gives more options.
Baud has 80 gold and engineering but is holding guilds back ... lets see if that falls into the trade area soon. Doubt it, she's a @#$@
Germany is almost like baud with some gold and engineering + hiding guilds from us.

So Lets wait 5ish turns on trades during which place research to 0% Since we are looking to trade for printing press and may want to suddenly run science 100% for 10 odd turns to beat wang at econ. Oh and not to mention we have a ton of universities coming online soon.

Notice 3 workers have no names and 2 have the same... ok fix that! vexation and disgruntlement and a few other random SAT words that liq persistently confuses people with. Not like a liq does it on purpose... sniff.

last thing I notice is that one of our upgraded galleons is chilling southish of Tver, and takes him about 11 turns to get over to green dot proper so I will get him going now. Keep in mind it's not safe to just auto path this as there's barbs all over the place.

Also get the non galleon ships we have hanging around over near krazy to maybe repel idiotic France people, De Gaul would be a moron to attack us but when does that crap ever stop the AI. we have a trireme there now guarding the fish the barbs can never get to (it's in the ocean) but well nice it's there!!!! beats trying to stock up on effing troops in krazy hehe.

BTW Krazy is working two unimproved tiles hehe... oh well, will whip that courthouse when I can if ever, not to mention ship another worker over with the troops since Rostov is done in 1 turn with another galleon. Need to get out of slavery soon.

So yeah we have 2 settlers and one worker in the new lands haha... well lets get some more workers over there!

I buy out the galley sitting here since we have the gold and well time to scoot an entire boat load of workers over.

We can build knights now so I start on a few stables in pete (has a uni and a spy now!) and Rostov.

Seems I missed the fact that the barb galley was actually 2x so lose that Caravel hehe. Good. Saved money on my boat insurance by switching to Die CO.

Germany will now trade banking and Wang will too but eff him!

Education -> Banking +180 gold (better get at least+1 for this)
+2 relations and Germany is pleased! Freddy smiled rofl.

For some reason he's back to instant cautious but at least we know he's that close to pleased.

Ok that's something we can work with so give him one of our iron for 5 gold a turn (poor France) and open borders. He will be perma pleased in no time.

so hmm... baud has gunpowder in 5 but no way she's gonna trade it.

The plains hill mine is done at Krazy now so should speed up with that combination of food and hammers.

So after Boris died, no other scout compares so they all retire and head back to Rostov for the good beer. Saving us 4 gold per turn.

Wang builds the Sistine and Nova builds its Uni for about +11 beakers per turn. Build wealth there a turn as the reason I am still playing is about to occur... 6th bloody uni for Oxford!

Sally dot finishes its uni and so.... Oxford in 20... not bad. Queue it up and its forget about Nova for a turn set as the town is not growing finally!

We also win a great scientist who will be used to bulb scientific method in 3 turns hehe. Wang is 8 turns from finishing Scientific btw and Egypt is 16 turns. Baud is on Nationalism in 8ish turns. France and BK are so backwards it doesn't matter.

Oh notice Baud has 500ish gold for some reason, I sell her banking for the gold and her map and get +2 relations for fair trade bringing her up to a useless pleased hehe. Back up to 1600 gold!

So focus here since we have a decent barb killing force of xbows, maces and knights, is to spam grocers and banks wherever a town is pulling in decent cash. Oh and Customs houses oh and uh yeah there's a ton of crap to build with that glut of techs.

Finding homes for these cash + buildings isn't going to be hard since almost all of BK's towns are on islands and we are getting some nice routes. Check out the map I got from BK for 40 gold btw... that poor guy got SHAFTED.

Once all the troops arrive and heal, time to kill the Olmec Barb town holding up the settler for Red dot on silver's map.

Need to flank Promote the Knights incoming to lead off and die anyway hehe. Hell just promote the Knights combat so they do more damage or something. 5 xp Knights are easy, we want to keep the CR maces alive.

Once that town is razed, survivors can heal up in the new dot while at least one Galleon nearby can take them to the barb town holding up the new green dot. Sakae is the name and it's not on a hill this time so that's cake.

Moscow just started on the settlers for those two dots.

Replaceable parts in 2 turns at 60%, spam lumber mills on Any forest still alive in the old lands hehe. I'd bee placing roads on forests all turn set to help facilitate the mills.

Next tech is Scientific Method so stay 60% research. We have a bulb for sci method but don't spend the bulb unless we cannot get it from Wang for liberalism.

If anyone demands we cancel deals with France, cave in for the free plus dip. In the meantime enjoy the 9 gold per turn for effing wine haha.

This all should take a bit of time while we research communism for state property. Until we go state property, those will probably be the last dots unless for some reason we can maintain 50% science with minor bleeding still. That's why liq said to spam gold+ buildings!

Tver's garrison just shuttled off to hook up with the Hut buster galleon who only needs 6 turns total to shuttled the xbow north and come back to help out shipping the troops north. That xbow has 2 huts to pop then just walk over to garrison orange dot I guess or maybe camp purple.


Oh for fun, There's a gaggle of at least 3 barb workers roading random parts in the south. Might want to send a knight on over to punt em if you are bored and the rolls on Olmec are easy going. I say let them road the way to black dot haha.

Pete is stagnant with 2 priest specs going to speed up the 100% Great Profit in 26 turns. The reason for this is to pop a golden age for when we revolt to state property and well priest specs pown with the Angkor Wat lol.

And perhaps most importantly....

liq figured out how to limit the spell check to x number of entries.... it was right there under advanced-> Configuration (tree of about 17 items)-> spell check (tree of about 5 items) -> misc page with about 15 radio boxes and whatnot -> little box that is default -1. What an idiot liq is for not finding that the first 10 times! No idea what the option on the bottom half of that tab are for. I highly recommend using notetab lite if you just want a tabbed txtpad hehe. Liq will stick with the photoshop of txt pads in the meantime since it's almost behaving like a no frills tabbed notepad with auto spell.

Also, with regards to German espionage, I would guess that he has spent some time with his espionage spending above 0% as well as focusing primarily on your empire, the espionage button on the graph screen could give some idea to what Frederick has been doing with his slider. Any large increases in contrast to your own espionage pre-Chichen Itza (which would be built a short time after CoL is researched) will indicate use of the slider, although it will only be a rough estimate.

highly recommend getting a free photo bucket account and just run around wild screaming about "The Bucket" to people that have no idea WTH you are talking about and are a bit frightened... er wait nm

Anyway the bucket lets you upload pictures of whatever forum friendly size for free and gives easy cut and paste {img} links which just get posted into the notetab report directly. Liq uses some random copy of photoshop to crop and add neato zip arrows to ship pictures but the bucket has quite a few nice crop tools for people not familiar with torrential downpours.

Been using the bucket since my first sg here in uh 2005 and those pictures are still online. Absolutely good stuffs.

Hmm seems that new text editor is trying to get the cat to jump in the refrigerator again.... wonder how to turn that option off, looked under the Cool Cats tab but only saw the hair ball options...

Liq again pwned house with the trades there, putting us comfortably ahead of Wang.

Seems we have a minor decision to make. Rush for Cossacks and Cannons and run people over, or head for Communism and colonize the new world? Cannons and Cossacks are farther away actually, so I'm inclined to grab Communism (although it just means more ugly REXing :p, with no more distance inhibitions).
 
In retrospect, when I moved slider to 0% wiating on printing press, I should have had guilds cooking.. Just adding 60 odd beakers to that tech would have prolly meant baud would have traded it but oh well!!!

new save posted on account liq needed to clean up the mm from that massed uni/galleon/maces rush.

Assuming pete is skipping? if so silver is up.

I would certainly vote for going the cossack route. Might as well use the unique unit if we are given a chance. Guess it kinda depends on what units Wang would be fielding in defense. I only think we should do it if we can roll over him easily.

At the very least a war with Wang would take his priorities off colonizing the New World...so we might be able to crush Wang and still REX the everlovin crap out of the New World

Hmm, well good thing I checked :p. Immediately after opening Moscow, I spot a Min-Maxing oversight with the settler. Swapping to the plains hill from the forest saves us a turn on the second settler, so doing that. Remember, we are Imperialistic, so let's abuse that hammer bonus!

I stagnant Nova by working the plains cottages. They need to grow anyways, so whatever. Shave Oxford from 20 turns to 17. Gogo Min Max!

We have an engineer hired in Rostov. Our Workshops are really nice now though, so switch to working them.

We're in no hurry to be spamming Knights from Yaro, so switch to the Grocer and move work to more cottages.

Shift around Yek's tiles (the tundra city with the silver), to get more commerce out of this place while still growing.

Speed up growth in Yak (Sally Dot) at the expense of hammers. Also swap the mace for a Confused Monastery.

Vlad working on a Customs house, which is good due to trade routes. We are still growing though, and out of worthwhile tiles to work (no one mined the desert hill). So hire an engineer for the extra hammer.

Smolensk needs worker attention! More farms and cottages, as we are wasting time working coastal tiles.

Swap Orenburg over to it's cottages, as it has a ton of food and will grow back into those mines at a later date. The important thing is getting the cottages going.

Can't do anything for Krazy at the moment. Still working on the damned Courthouse.

There's farms at Purple Love Dot, and I don't recall signing for farms. Now that we are going State Property, watermills will be best. Will have to resign most of this place.

Bryansk is working both cottages instead of a mine, to get the ugly courthouse done faster. Fix that.

Tver' will become a boom town on it's own. We'll check back here later as it only has 1 pop, so there is nothing to MM.

Gah! The new blue dot is Novosibirsk. Going to confused that with Novogord probably. Again, this town is new, so nothing to see here yet.

Silver have you noticed anyone exploring around in the New World yet...how much more time do we have to REX by ourselves out there?

One thing I noticed was that we can renegotiate the silk trade with BK for 5 gpt instead of 3.
Every little bit helps.
