Against Universal healthcare, why ?

Can you find something that says it isn't allowed? No you can't.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do have the right to the pursuit of happiness. It's not, "You have the right to the pursuit of happiness after you support everyone else."

They have the same damn right as I do. Go take of yourself you lazy oafs.
 
If there's socialized healthcare, I would advocate a ban on smoking and eating too many fatty foods if you don't consistently excercise. I have no desire to subsize your crappy living habits.

There was a thread not so long ago wherein an article explained that smokers and the obese actually cost less to the average Universal Healthcare system. While it's fun to point to these things and say 'you chose to not deserve healthcare', the real costs come in treating people who stay alive the longest.

Can you find it in the U.S. Constitution? I can't.

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, ensure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America

That's enough for me. Nowhere does it say that national programs cannot be created to better the welfare of the people, and better you it does.

Life, Liberty, and pursuit of Happiness was written by Thomas Jefferson in the declaration of independence.

DoI != Constitution. Nor does the DoI guarantee you an unrestrained right to the pursuit of happiness. What if your definition of happiness involves murdering people and doing cocaine all night? Are these activities somehow condoned by the DoI?

But would you think the same of a small child - who had been hit by a car (perhaps, for ultimate emotional black-mail, by a drunk-driver).

Only suggesting that there might be cases where a person could feel happy or morally obliged to use some of their hard-earned cash to help someone else out.

Ok, but the majority of unhealthy cases in America do not involve some kind of tragic accident. Its just because people such at taking care of themselves.

And do you have any actual evidence to support this statement? Are people that are simply old to be considered bad at taking care of themselves?

No, my argument is that the obese typically don't require all that much more hospital care than do say, seniors. Additionally, they tend to kick the bucket real early, at which point they stop being a cost. If you can show me obese living till they're 120, then they become a tremendous cost.

Yes, Americans are getting fatter. Is it for some reason an issue for healthcare providers? No. Moreover, this article points out that stopping the obesity epidemic may even be a community responsibility, rather than simply labelling the obese as lazy slobs. Oh the humanity!

You know why there's an insane amount of tax on tobacco right? You don't get to take credit for paying for my crappy living habit. I have been paying for it for over 20 years already.

Again, if the Constitution had to list everything that the government wasn't permitted to do, it'd be a mile long and have 10,000 articles.

Besides, I fail to see how giving insulin to a diabetes patient that ate too much sugar is promoting the general welfare.
 
It is my responsibility to provide myself with access to healthcare. It is not the responsibility of my employer or my government, and, as a general principal, I oppose anything that would have the people dependent upon the government for any of our basic needs.
