Really the Three Wise Men have more traction here, although the Caga Tió (literally, Pooping Log) is kept as a tradition and Santa is ever more dominant. I think. In my family we always joined together in Christmas night to hit the Pooping Log so it'd poop a couple big presents for the kids, while Santa gave a token gift and the Three Wise Men were the heavy-hitters.

Yeah, the U.S. has the worst employee protections in the western world. It is what it is.

And now for something a bit more cheerful:

That explains why some weirdos here say "father christmas"

In relation to Santa Claus/Grandfather Frost: the first comes on Christmas, while the other on New Year.

Some weirdos? Repent of your heathen Americanisms and you can be saved!

We have something similar here - but only as a Pagan/Christmas tradition, nothing related to gifts.
You occasionally see these things running around the streets during x-mas time:

What the hell's that thing sprouting from Africa? An ice cap?

There is nothing sprouting from africa

It's a cool map

I kinda wonder why easternsouthern India is a desert, though

Ah, I've been looking at it for some time and, yes, it's good. Just deformed by the projection.

A lot of western coasts are desert aren't they?

But it does seem like something is off with central asia

A lot of western coasts are desert aren't they?

can't say that's something that has struck me

I guess you're right, but I'm not sure if I'll just accept it because of that

EDIT: and presumably, the Ganges and that other river (from Tibet to Bengal) are still there

Yeah continental west coasts in the mid latitudes are generally dry climates - either Mediterranean or arid. That holds for Australia's west coast, Africa in both hemispheres, both Americas with Chile and California/Mexico and also maybe extreme southern Europe around southern Portugal and Andalusia being quite arid.

I assume it's combination of ocean patterns and trade winds, probably due to the direction of the earth's rotation.

It looks like they've applied a similar phenomenon to mid latitude (not tropical) western regions in Australia, India, Antarctica and minimally in Baja California in this rotated map.

Did you know Barcelona gets more rain than Stockholm on average? It's just concentrated into fewer days of rain.
