Yeah Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania don't count as "Northeast". Maybe Pennsylvania.

You can divide it all sorts of ways:

hmm. i just read up the Byzantine Arab wars and deduced tha the arabs taking the territory was a good thing. somehow.

im change history so everything is pretty much the same, up until 1071 at the battle of manzikert.

My first impression of this map was that it's awesome, but then I saw what they did to Maryland and Delaware and now I think it's garbage.

do you have a problem with those 2 small states disappearing?

i think its a great states map, and that map actually makes more sense, but now i cant tell where Washington DC is :P

The separation is weird, but the Chesapeake state is good. In my version that entire peninsula was Delaware. It's still fairly small and doesn't have a big city, but I was thinking more along the lines of a different possible outcome based mostly on geography rather than a 'fair' outcome.

I'd prefer it if SF Bay included Marin and the rest of North Bay and Santa Cruz. Other than that, California's cool. Also, where's the District of Columbia?

In the middle of "Potomac". Funny, I'd be in the same "state" as our nation's capital for reals now

I find it funny that I'm told Long Island cannot function as it's own state, but it has equal representation to whole blocks of states.

I don't think that'd ever happen. Wasn't DC made an independent district specifically to prevent the nation's capital from being associated with any specific state (and thereby potentially giving one state more power than another?)

well i still think DC should be its own state. i happen to like the concept of a capital state or province.

Very nice state names (except maybe S. F. Bay should just be called San Francisco)
It does seem odd that the map-maker was willing to name other states after their (presumed) capitals but felt the need to add a qualifier in this case. I suppose the difference is that while "San Francisco Bay Area" is an accepted term, it is distinct from, say, "Greater London" in that the city draws it's name from the bay, and so does not directly bestow it's name upon the metropolitan area; it is merely the most significant city of the group. It may seem like a somewhat pedantic distinction, but I'm sure it's one that would be relevant to the area's inhabitants; if I recall correctly, the City of San Francisco itself is a rather smaller part of it's metropolitan area than the rather fuzzy understanding of the name by most outsiders may imply.
