Hey, ganglieri, what seccesionist movements have you found in Denmark, its just Greenland and maybe the Faroes, Right?

I would like to know this too, because the lines tend to get a bit blurred regarding the Faroes and Greenland. Sometimes they are counted as sovereign countries other times they are not. The only other seccesionist movement I could imagine would be the german minority in North Schleswig/Sonder Jutland, but that i believe would be reaching for something that doesnt exist in any significant manner, and even if that would be the case, I would imagine Germany should be yellow as well, having a danish minority in South Schleswig.

This is a modified version of gangleri's map, using Winner's base map. I've added another category for countries where there's violent ethnic conflict/ tension, but not a full-blown secessionist conflict.

Great job! Here some changes and their justification:

Angola: If the cabindan rebels are not a strong and highly militarized secessionist movement, then you tell me who is.
Comoros: Anjouan was invaded in 2008, so I think that Comoros no longer belong to the dark red category.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Sporadic episodes of violence in Katanga, North Kivu and South Kivu.
Finland: Åland falls in the category of minor secessionism, IMHO.
Iraq, Iran and Syria: There's activity of the PKK in these three countries too, so I think they also belong to the same category as Turkey. Moreover, Iran has also the Baluchistan thing.
Mali: There were some episodes of violence during the Tuareg rebellion and since the situation is still pretty hot in Niger, I think that Tuaregs in Mali still belong to the red category, unlike those in Algeria, Libya and Burkina Faso.
Romania: Szekely is more an autonomist movement than a secessionist one.
St. Kitts and Nevis: There's minor secessionist movement in Nevis.
Serbia: Kosovo may be compared to Transnistiria, Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Nagorno-Karabakh, so it belong to their same category.
Yemen: Southern yemeni secessionist violence is sporadic only and the tribal conflicts in Aden and Dhofar are of autonomist nature.

Besides, are you sure that Uzbekistan should be blue? I'm not sure if the Karakalpakstan secessionist movement is relevant or not.

Help me fill this map:

(EDIT: the picture will be continually updated, don't include it if you quote this post)
austeritymap.png

Pro-austerity: countries which have begun implementing or have approved significant public spending cuts/debt reduction plans or have austerity minded governments which are expected to approve such plans in the immediate future.

Anti-austerity: countries which plan to do no such thing.

---

I've filled just a few countries where I am sure. The US leads the anti-austerity camp and plans to spend its way out of the crisis, whereas China has no need for austerity. Germany has already approved a plan for far-reaching spending cuts. Spain, Greece and Portugal were forced to do the same to avoid bankruptcy. Romania was pressed by the IMF to cut pensions, public sector pay, etc.

You are free to download the map and paint countries. Be objective and only pain those where you're positive about the government's position.

Brazil was talking against those austerity plans in the G20 and other international forums.
For what the government is currently doing, the tax base is greatly improving with an accelerating economy, so we might end up not spending as much %wise for lack of plans for the money. On the other hand, is election year, so we have a peak in the public spending.

Yes because they can definitely fight against China!
Ironically though, the US sends Taiwan money for weapons and weapons and stuff.. :mischief:

Abkhazia-South_Ossetia_recognition.svg

States which formally recognise Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent. Besides those, Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Transnistria mutually recognise each other.

A lot of countries do business with Taiwan even if they don't officially recognize it.

@Agar: Your map is red X'd. Only 4 countries actually recognize them anyway. :p

All violent episodes may be compared to terrotist organizations and not to guerrillas or rebel armies, so I think that it still belongs to the light red category.

Actually, a fair few were really separatist attacks, and there's a pretty strong separatist movement.

If Angola, Thailand, Niger are dark red then Yemen should be too.

BTW, I still have doubts about Uzbekistan and Bhutan.

IIRC there's a Karakalpaki separatist movement, but perhaps that's just autonomist.

I also remember an ethnic-Nepali separatist movement against Bhutan.

Gangleri2001: If Finland is light blue because of Åland, and beacuse of your opinion, why are Denmark in the yellow?

Im not attacking you or anything, im just really curious why you believe we have a mainstream seccessionist movement, especially when this definition is the same you have put on Belgium. Which does have significant problems with keeping unity.

Is this because of Greenland and the Faroes?
