Here is a map I made with the new HDI rankings. Countries in the top fifth are blue, next fifth are green, middle fifth are yellow, next fifth are orange, and bottom fifth are red.

My favorite part is when Spain and Portugal disappear. Also, the French and the Prussians getting together and somehow being able to conquer all of Europe. That's cool too.

The first compared Chile to Venezuela, implying that the interventionist government of the former is the cause of it's lower HDI rating. The second compared Libya to Democratic Republic of the Congo, the former possessing a very strict government, the latter almost none at all, suggesting that maybe, just maybe, it's a bit more complex than that.
(Also, Chile is 0.783 and Venezuela 0.696, which is about the difference between Norway and the United Kingdom, so perhaps not as staggering as Amadeus may have assumed.)

Notable states in Latin America include the Bolivarian Federation and the Andean Union.
The Bolivarian Federation is simple enough to understand, including Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Paraguay, Cuba, Costa Rica and Nicaragua. The Andean Union forms in response to this, as Colombia, Panama, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Peru and Chile grow nervous about the Bolivarians bellicose language of a Bolivarian continent.
CARICOM, probably not its "real" future name, but that's what the pale green Caribbean state is based on.
In the Old World, the EU has expanded and become more federal in nature. The Swiss ensure that even if the rest of the world were ruled by one government, there would still be two states, The Rest of the World, and Switzerland. The Vatican remains a historical anachronism.
The Balkans have provided the world with yet more bloodshed via the formation of a Greater Serbia, encompassing those unfortunate states who formerly belonged to Serbia at one point or another, but had not yet the protection of being within the EU.
Cyprus is still frozen, though given the bloodshed that occurred in many other formerly frozen conflicts to create this map, that's probably a blessing for the Cypriots, Greek and Turk alike.
Israel has survived and annexed Gaza and the West Bank. The Palestinians have fled or been forced into The Caliphate. A Sunni Caliphate extending from the Indian to the Atlantic Ocean.
The rise of The Caliphate gave many other countries in Africa and the Middle East quite a scare leading to the creation of a Christian state based on ECOWAS in West Africa, a state based on the SADC, and a state based on the East African Community. Ethiopia long held out from joining this East African state, but as the belligerent Caliphate slowly encircled it, and seeing the fate of the Christians in South Sudan, the Ethiopians finally decided to pool their strength with the East Africans.
Greater Iran, expanded to include the Shia of Iraq.
The Russian Empire, reunited via various means with Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, and most of the Ukraine. The Ukrainians in the west weren't too keen on this idea and managed to persuade the western powers of the EU, USC, The New Confederacy (the first signs of cooperation between the two states since the Second Civil War), as well as Turkey (fearful of Russian expansionism in the Caucasus) to jump to their protection, and so the country was divided. The Russians also recaptured Mongolia as a puppet state, who slowly became subsumed, and attempted to invade Central Asia. This lead to...
The formation of the Central Asian Sultanate. There is an ongoing war between the Central Asians and the Russians.
In the south, the rise of the Sultanate empowered Hindu nationalists, which led to India "regaining" Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives. There have been sporadic border clashes between India and the Sultanate, but neither side has the stomach for a full blown war. India is now developing rapidly and the growing middle classes have no stomach for total war. The Sultanate is busy fending off the Russians in the north and their leaders (though not local hot heads) realise a two fronted war would be disastrous.
China has "regained" Taiwan, and after North Korea finally collapsed, the Chinese quickly "intervened" to ensure their rivals, Japan-Korea did not. The Chinese having more accurate information than anyone else on the state of North Korea, were able to prepare for the "intervention" months in advance.
Japan-Korea. Old hostilities were put aside (with difficulty) as both countries realised united they were stronger.
Chinese belligerence and economic benefits also resulted in ASEAN becoming ever more effective and unified.
Oceania consists of Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific island states.
