After watching this program I find a lot of similarities between far-right talk radio and the kind of language Islamic fundamentalists use. I had no idea the kind of hate and fear-mongering that goes on during these shows. I'm sure the far-left media has their share of hate as well (note I'm not just talking bias here I am talking HATE)

You want to hear hateful talk radio? Listen to Air America. Oh wait, you can't. They went bankrupt! Bahahaha!!

Seriously though, the leftist hosts are truly venomous.

Talk radio is dominated by the right. There just is very little talk radio on the left except NPR, which can't afford to be extremist.

Here's a hint: Right wing talk radio in the US does not include conservatives ;)

I actually liked AlFranken show it was extremely well made and very humours. I never heard one word of hate its pretty much like "The Daily Show" Thats pretty much all I listerned too the rest was completely rubbish.

Conservative talk radio has always been that way just because radio is the wild west of the political media. Listen to Mike Savage or Sean Hannity and once in a while and you hear things they would never get away with on TV. These shows are often supported by independently wealthy listeners and sponsored by shameless commerce.

You comparing it to Islamic fundamentals isn't a bad connection. It is hateful and fear mongering, because that's what keeps their nutcase fans tuning in. It's all business.

Just different breeds of fascists. ;)

Talk radio hosts like Limbaugh are stuck in the culture wars of the 1960's. It's as if they're refighting the battles of Vietnam-era America over and over again. Thank God the Democrats finally moved beyond them.

I was subjected to Limbaugh over the summer because my superviser listened to it all the time. At one point he said, in response to a poll showing single women supporting Obama more than married women, that of course single women will vote for Obama, since they don't have a man to make them smart.
I truly hate him.

So is this a generation gap? Will talk-radio cede to internet blogs in 20 years (in the sense that talk-radio will no longer be the domain of extremist hate)?

At least the right wingers have a sense of humour sometimes. The left is just plain mean which is why nobody listens to them.

Savage is so crazy he is interesting to listen to. Hannity and many of the others are just hacks.

Neil Bortz is not bad but he kinda sold out.

Now that you've said it, I think that the 'humor' all depends on who says it. I mean when I listened to Rush it all sounded angry and like hate-mongering, but then the guy that liked it would laugh eveyonce in a while at things he thought were funny, so I'm guessing its the same with guys on the left, to you, WICKLC1, it probably sounds mean, but to someone like me, well would probably find a lot of it funny, like I do the Daily Show (which usually is against right-wing things, though they do mock both sides alot) or other shows with that kind of bias.

'zactly.

Probably. The difference with blogs is that pretty much any douche with a computer can make one, no matter which side of the political spectrum he's on. Same goes for podcasts. I predict you won't see any particular few blogs hold great influence the way some radio personalities do. Talk radio will always have it's extremists.

You just can't appreciate the liberal jokes.

I personally like shows where a maniac just lets loose for an hour. The callers he gets are quite boring though. I always snickered at the "flashing your lights" thing he does at the end.

Yeah, it depends on who's listening.

Most talk-radio is normally listened by blue-collar people who like to be entertained while doing physical labor. It is a way to cope with the mechanization process of monotonous labor. That is why talk radio is stupid.

It's the exact opposite on my campus. The campus Republicans' publication is printed on glossy, white paper and is very uptight and serious while the Democrats' is printed on cheap recycled paper and is called the SmartAss.

Its just, to me, some liberal news shows, magazines etc. seem so smug and angry sometimes.

Smug yes, that accusation has been valid for a long time. Angry, generally not. And when it is, it's because of being sick and tired of being attacked all the time for false reasons.

Or good ones.

The point is that people listen to what they want to hear.
