Hey guys,

I just wanted to pop on over and let you know about a thread I just posted on the 2K Forums that might interest you:
http://forums.2kgames.com/showthread.php?117828-Movement-and-combat-animations-in-multiplayer

I have good news for multiplayer fans!

Today I am proud to tell you that animations in multiplayer will be added in an upcoming (free) patch to Civilization V. You guys have been asking about this one for ages, and we’ve been working hard getting it to a point where we are sure we’ll be able to do it in a way that we’re happy with. That point has been reached.

Combat and movement animations will be separate options. In our internal testing we have found that it’s best with movement animations on and combat animations off, providing a nice balance between keeping the game looking pretty but also moving forward at a good pace. However, those of you who want to see all of the combat animations will indeed get your wish as well!

We don’t have any sort of ETA for this patch yet, but I can tell you it won’t be for at least a few months. We have many other improvements in the works that I’ll be talking about as its release grows closer, but I wanted to get this one bit of news out to you guys as soon as we were sure!

Nice to see the game isn't abandoned, but I hope some more patches to the AI will be released. Maybe an expansion too. :)

Greg, can you just give us an answer about a future expansion?

I don't need to know timelines or dates, but just that this game is going to continue expanding...not just with single civ dlc's and the occassional patch....something of a larger substance.

I just hope that it will not slow down the game even more. Lag is always present event without animations. But i will shut my mouth from now and see it before making my opinion.

Yea many of us were starting to think it may have been abandoned. Nice to see you still have plans.

It would do a lot for the community if you could leak to the Public Greg that there was at least the foundation for an expansion in the works. Currently people are becoming pessimistic that this game may be abandoned.

I am not sure how many others are like me, but I at least speak for myself (and the others who I have met who think like me when I play them in multiplayer) that they want an expansion and refrain from buying DLCs until there is news (good/bad) about one coming out.

While MP animations isn't necessary for me (me and my frinds feel it costs too much time in MP), it's good to see the game isn't abandoned.
More patches are ALWAYS welcome, and I'm very curious about the other improvements!

Also, maybe a moderator can add in the title "patch news" or something, the title isn't very clear that it's about a future patch (and that it is about more than MP animations).

Why would you refrain from buying DLC until an expansion is coming out? As a sort of punitive measure?

Animations in MP is for me personally not important, but good for all the people who want it. And more improvements sound good. Waiting many months is the disappointing side of the news, because we where already waiting a few months.

animations are ok for some. Personally i will not play with them on. Anyway i do hope there are some balance patch changes as well.
balanceing of great persons?great scientists and great engineers own atm.
Cavalry weakened more vs cities and but given 5 moves like tanks?
5 move cavalry prevents kesik and great wall + bowmen abuse. Just remember that if you give knights 5 moves, make sure you give a bigger penalty vs cities.
UA balance, seriously this one is needed.
France would imo be better off with a persentage based bonus that does not go obsolete.
India is broken good on huge maps and late game on normal games, but is given a crippling penalty early game. The design on the ua is not good imo. it is unique, but badly balanced.
Option A is go with a lower bonus on population based happiness.
option B is to just give a small persentage bonus to growth on all cities, and a bigger bonus to the capital. Something like 50/25%.
Arabia is a civ that has a very bad UA. suggested change is +25% trade income +1 gold per trade route and double oil.
suggested change to basaar is +2 gold per lux/oil/oasis. double lux. AI only gives max 1 gpt per lux when happy. 3 gpt when unhappy.

Well, the good news is that after MP animations, Pitboss and PBEM or fixed the most requested features are 'done' and that they can focus purely on balance and extra content (DLC/Expansion) :) (And maybe in the longer run even on extra features).

So we sort out multi-player before single-players issues are fixed?

Marvellous Firaxis, do you all wear you head on a fork? While your bodies are on automatic?

For heavens sake, it's so...lame.

I liked the video game store blocked toilet analogy I saw posted once. You own a video game store with a male and female toilet. Both are blocked, but you only have limited time to fix the problem. Given 90% of your customers are male, you'll fix that one up first. Once you've got it in a workable condition, do you continue working on it until it is the cleanest and most hygienic toilet in the city, or do you make the female toilet usable before pimping the male one up?

That there are multiplayer fixes does not mean there won't be single player fixes, and even if there were only multiplayer fixes, I really don't think that's anything to complain about.

U need to give VEM a try then. Personally I think that it is time announce an xpack which adds several new features + better AI & more speed optimization. Then they can release dll for the modders as well.

Great news, many thanks for that one! :D

Still hoping for turn based moves and mods, and I will again enjoy good old fashioned MP session with my brother...

Are you trolling Moderator Action: Please don't accuse anyone of trolling. Even if true, it would not stop it. or trying to give helpful input? :undecide: Does your icon resembling a troll tell us something?.

Civ 5 sells for $18.44 right now:

Let us put this in persective. That is the price of a couple gallons of gas, not even close to filling up a tank of gas. I think some players expect way too much out of a video game.

There's no way for them to win here. No matter what they do, people will complain they don't care about a part of their fan base. They can fix multiplayer issues while continuing to work on single player issues as well, but things like improving the AI take much more work than adding animations to multiplayer. I don't even player multiplayer, but I'm happy to see they're continuing to listen to the fanbase and work on the game.

I'm sick of people on here constantly whining. It's so...lame.

most players play single player i Thinx more then 50 play single player and thats where the most complains are

^This....but the modding community in which Firaxis is so indebted to in keeping their product alive and improving are multiplayer types so thus the MP fixies.
