Anonymous takes down internet security firm

This sounds rather clichéd, but I'd rather the government and the police kept the power to get into my computer than anybody who cared to have a look be given that power. If it took that, I'd happily vote for it.

Why don't you have the power already?

All right, for a bit of side discussion: What would Anonymous find if they broke into your computer?

Say again? At present, it appears, anyone with knowledge of computer hacking could theoretically read my e-mails, post in my name on CFC, and so on. If by taking so much control over the internet that they would be able to do the same the government were able to stop them from doing so, I would support them.

Seriously Dachs, meme patrol?

it's a stupid forced meme anyway

Haha, stupid douche gets pwnz0red.

[23:10:24] <Vr> They need to be uncovered and imprisoned

There is a slight paradox in that statement - you stating they should be uncovered and imprisoned implicates ALL crime or misdemeanor should be punished.

If we make a list of all the people to be imprisoned, logically first priority would be starting from the top of the unmoral/damaging list.

By the time we reach to the Anonymus - our world would be such a peachy place already that nobody would feel the need to parttake in such vigilantist activities the Anonymuos is doing.

Hence there would be no more crime to imprison them for.

I doubt that. Nothing like a power vacuum (or at least the appearance of one ;)) to balloon someone's ego to Biblical proportions.

I am curious to what Whomp's opinion in all of this story. He has created this thread, now he has to tell us why this interest him instead of just simply sharing it for us all to comment in it.

It is an interesting story. But I am not sure I can really understand it since it is something of a cloak and dagger story that anyone can paint whatever picture onto it.

So you really don't know how much power hackers actually have and how much of their power is derived from an ignorant userbase.

I can guarantee that you're not a target of the political and social minded segment of anonymous.

I really think, also, that the cons of someone posting in your name compared to the pros of our stewards of society not being able to operate in perfect secrecy are not exactly an even match.

All right, for a bit of side discussion: What would Anonymous find if they broke into your computer?

A lot of mp3s, documentaries and books in .pdf form. Now that you pose the question, I'd be a lot more worried about people getting access to my gmail account. I should go do some housekeeping there.

What I like about Anonymous is how they only go after douchenozzles like Hal Turner, the Egyptian Government, and this guy.

Don't ever mess with Anon

Stupidest idea ever.

All /b/ memes are stupid and forced.

Id say that if /b/ memes are stupid and forced, all memes must be stupid and forced.

I agree on the forced part, stupid is subjective though. Many people would find Giant Radioactive Monkeys to be stupid, but many find humor in it here.

This is why we need more legislation and enforcability over the internet. Whatever we think about the victim, for people to be able to break into private and often confidential parts of someone's computer and publish the contents without reprecussions is awful. If somebody did this for real; stole somebody's post, graffitied their place of work and sent letters in their name, we would justly call them criminals at best. Any support for these people worries and sickens me.

It is against the law. How do you locate and prosecute someone who is anonymous on the net and may not even be in your country?
