She tried to pay for it, the shopkeeper took it off her and shot her as she was leaving without the OJ. The LAPD concluded the shopkeeper should be prosecuted, a jury found her guilty. This is about as clear cut as a case can get.

And the funny thing is that many of these same people will say stuff like "you can't say Donald Trump raped anyone because he wasn't convicted in a court of law"

She tried to pay for it by ramming her fist in the shopkeeper's face multiple times. I'm shocked, just shocked that the shopkeeper got the wrong idea (and then demonstrated poor trigger discipline).

Well, you're a lying piece of filth too. Wonderful.

I thought of a cute response but it's probably too salacious to deliver.

Hint: It involved the shopkeeper thinking the customer was coming on to her. Surely that's a better explanation that what I just said previously.

Dehumanising a black child to the point where you think shooting her to death is somehow a case of "both sides are in the wrong"

I note that you keep emphasizing child instead of adolescent.

Legally speaking, there was only one guilty party. I'm not strictly speaking about the law.

If anything, you are the one dehumanizing her.

I have to correct myself again, she wasn't killed for shoplifting, she was killed for attacking the clerk. But why did she put the OJ in her backpack? Can you explain that Cloud/Lex? Maybe she was swiping the OJ and paying for something else at the counter. It doesn't really matter, the clerk lost her right of self defense when the kid walked away. But it looks suspicious, I can see why the clerk thought she was a shoplifter. It sure looks that way on film.

Don't have to. Even if she had stolen the OJ it wouldn't justify shooting her even in the US.

Well we will never know because she was shot dead. Her killer got a trial which is more than she did.

What did you see on the video? I saw a girl try to sneak a bottle of OJ by the clerk and when she got caught she viciously attacked her. If she had innocently forgotten about the OJ or had some other reasonable explanation why attack the clerk? Thats not the behavior of an innocent person, thats what I'd expect from a shoplifter.

Still not seeing how the appropriate response to shoplifting is killing someone.

The real world shouldn't work like that.

Thats not what the LAPD concluded or what the 2 eyewitnesses thought happened.
You seem to be trying very hard to find something to blame the victim for.

He didn't have to try hard at all. He merely watched the security footage. You have eyes, afaict.
I have. It isn't conclusive.
But you and Berzerker apparently feel you are better qualified to judge what happened than the eyewitnesses, the police who investigated the matter, or the jury who considered all the evidence.

There is enough to conclude she committed a crime. Block exit, call police, restrain assailant.

I wouldn't agree given the eyewitnesses say she tried to pay but even so that isn't what happened is it? She was shot as she was leaving without the OJ

That's the part that likely led to the jury's verdict: unreasonable use of lethal force. That she tried to pay wouldn't excuse the punching.

That was a reaction to the shopkeeper grabbing her bag.
This isn't a case of both being equally to blame.
