Understanding your opponent isn't about whether you should cooperate or defect. It's about knowing what causes them to cooperate or defect, then vary your strategy accordingly. If you assume that your opponent will always defect, the differences between you and historical eliminationists tend to be ones of scale and intensity.
Well, I'm not an expert in American culture, yet I presume to pontificate what you guys should do
. Do something that appeals to their values, other than the racist ones of course. Emphesizing a unitary American identity (of course some on the left see this as racist in and of itself), exerting close meanings to their narratives like "the American dream", basically partaking in their rituals and symbols to show you guys are in "the same team". I read Andrew Breitbart's Righteous Indignation last year, and there he basically said that his conversion to conservatism was (his perceived) anti-Americanism coming from the liberal elite. He also said the same thing liberals say of the right: they lie all the time. Now the latter is obviously a factual matter, one where the stone most like is more in the conservative's shoe, but it's actually irrelevant, because no matter what the truth is, we're primed to think like our in-group, because we are groupish by nature, especially if societal trust has been decimated, as it seems to have been in America. We'll develop any number of post-hoc explanations of our team's positions if left to our own devices. Like evangelicals supporting Trump: the antithesis of their purported values. But if you want peace and understanding, you (American left/libersls) are going to have to give something. That obviously asks for some compromise with people who have behaved badly in the present and in the past, such as Fox News etc., but someone at some point has to take the high road, or else you are descending into civil strife. Or you can wait for the demographic shift some are waiting for, but if the problem isn't resolved before that, and if "white supremacy" is as big of a problem as is being argued here, you will most likely have even more problems with real right wing separatist terror groups.
