Apocalypse Now

Is the roster closed? If not I'd like to join. Always a fan of war games :lol: If we're going to war, I'd say Toku. Nothing beats super promoted gunpowder units and samurai.

@Shyuhe: you are in! and that closes the roster...
I hope interested people will lurk and give us good advices! :)

@all: well, you seem to want a crazy leader, and I must confess I don't play Toku a lot + he is a pain in the ... so what about Toku (tx you so much for the economy), emperor? If nobody disagrees, I will run a start before going to bed so you guys can dream about our opening (or whatever more sexy :p)...

Cheers

If the team agrees I'm okay with Toku as well. Bring on the Samurai!

OK I rolled a start with standart 3.17 CIV:

This is the first impressions we exchanged with Rolo on the start (msn)
Spoiler :
Raskolnikov dit :
I think move the warrior one north east
Ricardo dit :
I simply hate huts in the first ring of the cap site
Ricardo dit :
but yeah 1 NE with the warrior
Ricardo dit :
doubt that it will change anything
Raskolnikov dit :
we could move inland as there is no seafood or regen...
Ricardo dit :
it would take 2 turns
Raskolnikov dit :
perhaps one NE of the corn...
Raskolnikov dit :
do you think it's a good start?
Raskolnikov dit :
I usually play what I get but for a SG...
Ricardo dit :
well... not stellar, but workable
Ricardo dit :
and most ppl in SG also pick what the RNG gives
Raskolnikov dit :
ok so I will post it in the thread for discussion

I will probably start with 30 turns (or less if there is a worker steal possibility) tomorrow. 15 turns set after that...
So what do you think team? :)

yeah. Warrior 1NE and settle in place unless something interesting shows up (unlikely). We're in jungle territory so our start may be a little slow but it'll pick up with enough workers.

Yeah the jungle tile makes me think we are just south of the equator... what I dislike with settling in place is that half the BFC will be junk coast... The positive side is that in warmonger games the long term potential of the cap is not that important (who care of Kyoto when the Japanese empire is made of 30 cities...) + there are a lot of trees... I also suspect a resource one north west of the corn or two south of the starting location...

tech path: Agriculture -> BW while building a worker then warriors?

Cheers

Excellent: coastal start for a Glight powered trade economy. When playing a leader without an economic trait then establishing an economy is more important than usual. Settle in place.

I knew that would happen... you start a warmonger game with Toku, and people wants to build wonders :lol: ... This a not a "no" though... but I'd rather see a bit more the map before making that kind of plan :) (+the last posted game with Toku went exactly that way... exception of deity level :D)

Wonders? Who needs wonders? We have a strategic resource NNW (don't you dare tell me we haven't, the start is too poor to leave non-forested tiles without resources), and we are playing Tokugawa!

Agri (we start with Fishing/Mining?) -> BW -> Wheel -> Pottery (-> IW)?

I want to kill someone, we can take all the wonders we want from nearby enemies..!

Ag>mining>BW and explore seems like a sensible and basic starting plan. Can't really debate much on the current information we have.

Agreed: so settle in place, Ag -> BW seems in order :) I will stop if an ennemy worker shows up

btw, if someone wants another position in the roster, speak now!

Roster:
Raskolnikov -> up tonight
Paulus -> on deck
Diamondeye -> waiting to kill people
Rolo -> disappointed of us allowing workers
Pigswill -> happy to stop playing noble
Shyuhe -> inspired samurai

Hi folks :),

Another warmonger game for all the people who love their axes (don't ask me why the title, perhaps I like Kubrick too much)...

Before reading this SG, I must bring to the forefront that Apocalypse Now was a Coppola film. Full Metal Jacket was Kubrick's Vietnam flick.

Sorry... I have problems when it comes to Kubrick [head ticks and jerks left] :crazyeye:

On to [lurking] the game!

:blush: good catch! I love both and somehow get confused... I hope Kubrick and Coppola lovers will forgive me...
@team: thank you for letting me being ridiculous :lol:. Report to follow in the next hour hopefully :)

Everytime you want it, just ask :D

Thank you Rolo, I was looking for a good beating :rolleyes:
On to the game:

We settled in place so the Japanese people can start polishing their shiny axes immediately :D...
We started on a worker and agriculture (warriors still need to eat, blood is not enough):

Shortly after that, a friendly tribe provided us with a scout :goodjob:

We started another warrior after our worker switching from the spice tile (while building the worker) to the corn (fastest growth). I stoped in 3250 BC when the corn is up and running...

Thoughts: We definately need to kill the Viking (sniff). Perhaps build another worker before our settler (copper) for improved chopping, and warriors while growing.
I think the worker should mine the plain hill then start chopping, mining the grassland ones (I like to put the hammers of the first chops in the settler to not halt the growth of the cap, I think Rusten made a thread in the strat forum for those not familiar with this technique).

So what do you think guys :)?

Roster duty:
Paulus -> up
Diamondeye -> on deck
Rolo
Pigswill
Shyuhe
Raskolnikov

Cheers

I think we have a clear plan.

Step one: Discover Bronze Working.
Step two: Find copper and get it hooked up.
Step three: Build axemen.
Step four: Kill Ragnar.

Also, got the save.

Because it would be overused if we had such an icon :ar15:

I agree with Paulus's plan. I'd be surprised if we didn't have copper or horses in our bfc. A second worker may be nice if copper isn't in our bfc. Otherwise I'd just chop/whip with what we have. Aggressive barracks + 6-8 axes shouldn't take too long to assemble.

Also, I'd concentrate the EP on Ragnar so that we can see what he's researching. It'll be nice to know what to expect going in. Research, I'd go wheel after BW (assuming copper) so that we can build a road to Nidaros.
