Apocalypse Now

Having a trade route to the holy city helps religion spread. I don't know if Ragnar needs the trade route or if we need the route. It's probably faster just roading to his territory rather than researching sailing either way.

Regarding religion spread, read this post of mine ( /shameless self plug ). In this case a road to a ragnar tile with river to his cap would do:

Anyway, started with the recommended revolution and whip of monument:

Then, while making the necessary tile improvements, it was a never ending of falling wonders. It is easy to see who made what from the screens and BUG info:

Ramesses adopted HR.....

Other concern is that Ragnar has copper and finished BW. We should take care.

I finished the turnset when the borders popped in our 2nd city:

Not much to say , except that we killed 2 barbs, a archer and a warrior, both in North.

P.S Sorry for the rushed thing, but I'm up in 3 SG today ( well, this is the 2nd I play ..... )

Hi team :hatsoff:,

Obviously Rolo missed the part where we discussed researching AH :lol:...
Might as well finish IW and hook up the iron. We need another city soon and more workers of course :p
Techs: IW -> AH-> Writing?

Roster Duty:

Pigswill -> up!
Shyuhe -> on deck!

Cheers

edit: @Pigswill: it would be cool if you play only till IW for discussion... and I think we need perhaps a fogbuster near the incense and wheat

Build some farms and mines in preparation for war? I'm assuming we'll get iron somewhere nearby. Kyoto should probably build a settler timed to complete around the same time that IW does (if possible) to claim the iron if it's nearby and not in our borders. Although I think it's in the plains-hill south of Kyoto.

Yeah, we should have a settler ready. Tech IW and we'll see where to head after that.

Played some turns up to iron-working.

T83. Whip granary in Osaka.
Whip granary in Kyoto.

T84. Osaka pop 2 granary>worker (9turns)
Kyoto pop 3 granary>warrior.

T86. Kyoto pop 4 warrior>settler.

T92. Osaka worker>rax.

T93. Kyoto whip settler (2 pop).

T94. Kyoto settler>settler (to use 46 hammer overflow).

T95. Kyoto settler(incomplete)>workboat.

T96. Ironworking is in. Iron north of Kyoto. Settler north of Osaka (not moved)

Fogbusted a bit,no barbs. Rags has expanded north. No religions spread. Built a couple of cottages. Dullsville:

Good turns Pigswill :)

I am not sure why you built a 2nd settler but it can be whipped for overflow latter anyway...
So Ragnar has locked us... this means war! :)
Propose plan (to be discussed): hook up iron and the new city, chop/mine hills (it should have been done but not a boomer imo), build troops, grab Nidaros, grab phants city...
I think the 3rd city would be better one east to start on a plain hill... barrack -> worker ( waiting to be connected to the iron) -> axes for builts?

Techs: writing (OBs, libs) or AH-> writing? I see no other needs for the moment...

Roster:
Shyuhe -> up!
Raskolnikov -> on deck!

Cheers

AH>writing to work the pigs then maybe maths>masonry>construction.

Quick report:

101: We are the poorest in the world (sorry list the pic).

And we suffer from it:

104: AC proposes:

110 - AH is in. Here's our lands:

Civ4ScreenShot0019.jpg

Iron is online and I've started chopping/mining. Ragnar is a bit of a troop spammer so we'll need quite a few units to take Nidaros (I'd say 10+) at this point. Ragnar also has horses. I don't know if we want to tech hunting or just rely on swords for stack defense.

Research is set for writing with no beakers invested.

I don't know if we want to tech hunting or just rely on swords for stack defense.

I'd say no... it's already pretty late, we need to move on toward alpha, aesthetics , or some other tradeable stuff (Pigswill proposed math -> construction)...
Ideas?

Raskolnikov -> up!
Paulus -> on deck!

Cheers

Given the delay in starting up a stack I'm really not sure that we're going to wipe out Rags with swords and axes. I reckon we're better off growing a bit more (clamhorse city down south, couple of cities up north) and going for a swordcat war instead.

A limited war to take Nidaros may be worth the cost. I don't think it'll alienate too many AI and we'll get a very good city out of it. However I wouldn't be opposed to settling a few more cities as well. But since we're playing a warmongering game, I feel like we should start warring soon :lol:

I would like to hurt Raggy a little with swords as Shuyhe suggested because Nidaros looks like a good cities and ivory is always worth it... I agree there are some nice cities left (mostly sugar site, clam horse, and cows north west of Kyoto), we could settle them while teching to catapults...
I will play a short round (probably tonight, mostly teching writing) to see how it develops...
If we are going for two wars against Ragnar, going alpha -> trade for math -> construction might be better as it allows to gain techs from peace.

And it seems that we are not trade connected to Ragnar... the little icon displayed next to his leader name must mean that he has TRs with us but not the opposite... might as well build roads asap (so we can trade resources with other foes)...

edit: I am not very clear..., obviously he hasn't TRs with us (no writing), but I thought the religion would have came to our land as trade networks should be connected... ( I am not sure it's better expressed now but...)

It may be that Ragnar has trade routes available to us through sailing but no open borders. In that case religion should be able to spread but it may be that given RNG is involved it just hasn't happened yet.
If you bloodthirsty psychos really want to build some swords and pick up a viking city or two then I don't object in principle. Good luck.

Let's just build a proper army and see how far we can go. There won't be much problems with pausing and redeclaring except for a diplo hit with de Gaulle.

Well once we get OB, we can check to see if Nidaros is on a hill. If it's on a hill, we may want to reconsider attacking with sword/axe as it'll be very costly against a 40% city.

I played 16 turns to Writing :)

110: OB with Ramses
111: Start a granary in Tokyo waiting to be able to build axes...
116: AC converts to Buddha
123: 2 pop whip a worker in Osaka
126: OB with Ragnar, De Gaulle, and Joao...

Ragnar is 21 tuns from alphabet...
An axe is scouting his territory.
status: 4 workers, 2 swords, 5 axes...

tech to be discussed (slider at 0% waiting libraries...)... thoughts?

Cheers,
Raskolnikov
