Ask A Catholic II

Well, not being an officer of the law, it might well have been sinful to execute someone,

Well, that was the point of my question.

but I believe the idea is that the Virgin Mary was born without sin and never accrued any either.

Well regardless, she didn't throw the stone, and I'm well aware that Catholics believe Mary never sinned, it was a question of curiosity though, whether IF she had thrown the stone it would have been a sin.

All that over a joke . . .

:crazyeye:

Well, I asked a half-humorous question because it was light-hearted but I was still curious, it was also half unrelated to the joke, but again, I was curious.

Then Arakhor got confused and...

Meh, waste of a few posts. Let's move along.

Oh, and the last relevant questions that were asked, just so they aren't forgotten:

In that regard, another question: Is it possible to go your entire life without sinning? If not, is it possible to go your whole life without mortally sinning?

Is there any possible way for an atheist to be saved? If the answer is "No" does this still apply if they are in a country like North Korea or something and were never able to hear about God?

Yes

I have already discussed this extensively with you and linked you to several sites...

You mentioned that a non-Christian could be saved (Though I don't remember the means) but I was wondering if the same thing applied to Atheists or not.

Yes, with the same T&C as a non-Christian

However the atheist is putting themselves at a double disadvantage because they deny or at the very least highly doubt the existence of God.

As to St Philip Neri's penance regarding the priest repeating his sermon many times, it was apparently an excellent sermon, and I don;t believe it was to the same congregation over many weeks, merely at enough places and times that people began to think he only had that one excellent sermon, thus to increase that priests humility. Either way though the priest then went on his way with other sermons after that.

As to the Virgin Mary she had original sin removed at her conception by a singular grace of God to ensure that she would be able to bear Christ. As one marred and imperfect by sin could not bear the absolute perfection of God the Son, it would be impossible, thus the neccessity for the lack of personal sin and the removal of original sin for Mary to have been able to be the Mother of God.

If this was removed, was Jesus then just a symbolic man? Thus never felt the same way we do nor could understand us truly? At what point was He made sin for us?

Do confessionals come in a more modern face to face. Or are they still the old style "you sit down next to a screen where the priest is"?

The screen ain't necessary, only you, the priest and some privacy.

Both frequently

Can't you just email your priest to confess these days? Or even some sort of 1-800 # ?What's the difference?

Hell, texting would be pretty convenient too. That way you don't need to remember them all. Just txt em as you do em!

The sacrament of reconciliation cannot be received by mail, phone, telegram, e-mail, carrier pigeon, smoke signals, text, semaphore, or any other means except personal, one-to-one contact with a priest.

Is this something the pope said or is it in the bible somewhere....?

And what's the problem?

Sacraments can only be done in person, e.g. you can't do a video chat wedding or confession your sins from a distance.

Why?

Spoiler :
I'm asking why. Did the pope say this? Or is it just a commonly held belief that isn't actually written down somewhere?

It's not very one on one when you are sitting in two different booths, with a little less than a wall between you.

EDIT: And than expand on why this is the case. There must be a good reason.

What you are asking me is the equivalent of trying to define the word "is" except the dictionary isn't alphabetize

So it has to be face to face . . . just cuz? It is what it is?
