Ask a Turk

Would the resurgance of an Ottoman Empire be realistic or even favorable in the near future? If not, why.

Well, for that to happen first we need to fix our economy. It is only possible if we can reach the economic state of Germany+France I think. Otherwise what you would do with huge land and population?

What do you think of the Greeks and Cyprus?

What do you make of the thing with Cyprus?

Would you describe Turkey as a safe place ot visit?

You spoke of aquirin a 'little more wealth' and the rest of the Middle East will follow Turkish lead; how do you think Turkey could go about doing this?

Do signs in Turkey read "Constantinople" or "Istanbul?" I heard in Greece roadsign still point to "Konstantinopolis."

On that note, is the They Might be Giants song popular in Istanbul?

Have you ever been to Navaronne?

What is the climate like in Turkey?

EDIT: Fixed a word in my question, so it makes sense now

How safe it is to travel in Instanbul and surronding Turkey. Are the Gov of Turkey doing enough to stop the kurdish seperatist from bombing the civilian? Also what other terrorist group are active in the country ?

Beside Instanbul, what else are nice about Turkey ?

Aspired Turkey traveller wannabe

Turkey is totally safe, it much more possible to die in a traffic accident in some other part of the world. No terrorist groups are active inside of the country. But sometimes they come from outside :)

You should visit Antalya or Bodrum. It is quite popular among Europeans especially Russians.

What do you think of the Greeks and Cyprus?

Greeks are cool people actually, who contributed to our culture. Cyprus needs a thread of its own but what I can say is that there are Turks living in the island and they don't want to be a part of Greece.

Why yes, and the strangles thing is, that I am listening to it right now ;).

Righto.

Opinions on the Armenian Genocide? Opinions on how Turkey outlaws speech that "insults turkishness"?

What is your and the local attitude to the Armenian Genocide?

What do you and the local population think of Turkey's bid to join the EU?

What do you make of the thing with Cyprus?

It will remain unsolved I guess. Actually there is no conflict now and everyone seems happy with the current situation.

Would you describe Turkey as a safe place ot visit??

Yes, of course.

You spoke of aquirin a 'little more wealth' and the rest of the Middle East will follow Turkish lead; how do you think Turkey could go about doing this??

Well, we have extremely talented, well educated and young population but have no resources. But we are growing day by day. Our GDP is $612.3 billion (17th)

Do signs in Turkey read "Constantinople" or "Istanbul?" I heard in Turkey roadsign still point to "Konstantinopolis."?

:D No, who told you that?

On that note, is the They Might be Giants song popular in Istanbul??

Ehh, you can say that.

Have you ever been to Navaronne??

What is the climate like in Turkey?

Four seasons everywhere. Southern parts a little bit more like California but not that much. Istanbul is like Indiana but without the too much colds and storms.

Well we already discuss this in its own thread, you can check that one. (because it is too long to discuss.)

About 301 it think it will be fixed but Germany and Italy has similar laws.

If I may ask, how common are the fez?

:D No, who told you that?
I meant Greece; Greece still has signs that point to Konstantinopolis.

A famous war movie, The Guns of Navaronne, takes place on the island of Navaronne, in the Aegean Sea. I was curious, that's all.

It sounds wonderful!

What about general Turkish opinion of Arabs? Do the groups get on well?

As a person, would you prefer a Turkey more closely tied to secular Europe, or a Turkey that had better ties with the rest of the Islamic world?

What is your and the local attitude to the Armenian Genocide?

Well, Armenians are/were so much inside our culture, and this kind of discussions make Armenians who live in Turkey sad. Turks don't have any hard feelings for anyone really unless you kill their close family or friends.

Turkish people don't want to join EU anymore, because they all demand things but don't keep their promises.
