Don't feel sad We can always debate what science is in relationship to everything, reality, the universe or what ever you want to call it. Modern science as folk science has its own brand of myths.

I consider myths to be culturally transmitted stories that have the effect of unifying a group. They may have a loose relationship to facts at a very low level, but this isn't required - it's mostly irrelevant to their effects.

I think myths are relevant to modern tribes, for better or for worse. Perhaps they shouldn't be, but at least for now we still have to live deal with them. Many people consider their identity completely wrapped up inside a particular mythology.
