Preturn analysis - We're really doing great here; the settler and the warrior from the goody hut and the workers from the japanese have given us our major workforce for free so that we can concentrate on building other things that won't slow down the city growth.
Preturn - Luxury down to zero and research up to the max and we will get Writing in 7 turns instead of 8, we lose some gold to it, but we will probably be able to lower the research again in a few turns.
IT - curragh->curragh
(1) 1700 BC - move workers to road all squares along the river.
(2) 1675 BC - curragh spot a new coast, will probably be risky to reach it though. MM our city to grow a little bit faster. Research down to 90% without losing speed.
IT - curragh->curragh
(3) 1650 BC - Workers continue to road. Sending a curragh on a dangerous mission to the new coast.
(4) 1625 BC - Our curragh survived! The new land looks like a small, uninhabited island though.
IT - curragh->pyramids (our unit support is beginning to be annoying and we have nothing else to build, might as well start a prebuild for something)
(5) 1600 BC - exploring.
(6) 1575 BC - workers start a mine. Research down to 80%.
IT - We get writing, and the technological breakthrough produce a Scientific Great leader, Geminus!
As Hooray suggested we go for Philosophy. Since we get the SGL, that means nobody else has writing so it should be pretty safe to do this. And since Map Making would take two times as long time to research I would think its a good idea to try the philosophy race.
(7) 1550 BC - I have to lower the research to 70% since we're losing to much money. Philosophy in 16 turns at this rate.
IT - Constantinople grows to size 7.
(8) 1525 BC - Yep, it's just a small uninhabited island.

I have to set a citizen to become a scientist to avoid riots. Philosophy in 12.
(9) 1500 BC - We're losing money

and will soon be broke.
(10) 1475 BC - Nothing.
(11) 1450 BC - Sending a curragh on a dangerous mission.
IT - the curragh sinks, saw nothing but ocean.
(12) 1425 BC - Well, now we're not losing money anymore...
(13) 1400 BC - Staring at the ocean, hoping to see a glimpse of coast.
(14) 1375 BC - Searching, searching. I was hoping to find somebody during my turn, but it seems that ain't gonna happen.
(15) 1350 BC - our warrior arrive to guard the incense colony. Found a some more sea squares near the western island, there could be some other island there, check it out.
Philosophy in 5 turns, 97 shields in the prebuild and we have a SGL.
