B2 - Revenge of the Aztecs!

Goals: I hate being behind in the tech race, I will have to fix that.

Inherited: established embassies with everyone. Greece has 7 luxuries. War weariness for them will be hard to achieve later in the game. Micromanagement of production shaves a turn off of Economics.

1) 940 Japan and Greece have signed a military alliance against India.

2) 950

3) 960

4) 970

5) 980 Indian war elephants and greek knights/horsemen sparring near dye town.

6) 990 Egypt and Greece have signed a military alliance against India.

7) 1000 Economics learned, Music Theory ordered. Washington switches to Smiths, 9 turns to go. Atlanta switches to palace for Bach's Cathedral

8) 1010 Greeks start JS Bach's Cathedral.

9) 1020 Egyptians are building JS Bach's Cathedral.

10) 1030 I buy Music theory from the Indians for 1 gold, saving us a turn of research. Astronomy ordered, 4 turns at 50% science. Atlanta switched to Bach's, 23 turns. Mountain City switched to palace.
Japanese forces pass dye town and enter into Indian territory. Indians begin Bach's cathedral.

11) 1040 Chinese are building Bach's Cathedral.

12) 1050 Indian worker purchased for 25 gold. Iron traded to china for gunpowder, 60 gold, and their world map. Economics, gems, and incense traded to china for astronomy (saving 2 turns), Chemistry, and 4 gpt. Physics ordered.
India wants an alliance vs the Japanese, which we refuse.

13) 1060

14) 1070

15) 1080

16) 1090 We have completed Smith's Trading Company.

17) 1100 Physics learned, Theory of Gravity ordered.

18) 1110 We have discovered a new source of iron.

19) 1120 Tenochtitlan switched to wall street.

20)

I had to make some deals I normally wouldn't do, but at the end of my turn, we once again have a tech lead. No one else has physics, and we are 2 turns away from Theory of Gravity. Our cities are still defended with pikemen and spearmen, I kept our gold around 1000 and all the excess went into science. Mountain City is producing the palace as a place holder for Newtons, Wall Street will be online in 16 turns, Bachs might be close, its 13 turns away. We only had a 4 or 5 turn head start on it.

:) I am glad to see people do read my summaries ;)
With 2 gems, and 1 gold being used, plus rivers, it will become a science city. And it can still add university [hint - hint]

Looks like the resources I gained from former USA helped.

 Greece has 7 luxuries. The really will be a problem for us. Worse, the Greece cities are closest to Washington, and have the best chance for productivity.

I came up in all three succession games I'm playing in at the same time.

I probably won't be able to get to this until Thursday evening, so if it's OK with Brian, I suggest that someone (Nanook??) jumps in and take over the game for this turn, and I will play after them.

I have movers coming tomorrow morning at 9 am. I may not be able to pick it up until Sunday. If you want to skip me this time around go ahead. I'll check in SUnday and if you haven't skipped me I'll play then.

Damn... I wrote this up nicely, and as a result of having "too many smilies" I lost the whole damn thing when I uploaded.

Here's the brief version...

Inherited turn:
Micromanage Mountain City and surrounding cities to get a few more shields. City will still grow to 12.
Atlanta is micromanaged - it's generating 5 excess food and is already at size 12, shifting some workers to forests cuts a turn off JS Bach's Cathedral.
Swap territory maps with England.

(1) 1140AD
Some of our cities are grossly overirrigated. Switching some irrigation to mines.
England and India sign a peace treaty.
Greece wants Physics and an exchange of World Maps. I send his envoy back with a territory map.
We get Theory of Gravity. Start Metallurgy.
Iroquois start JS Bach's Cathedral.

(2) 1150AD
Mountain City switched to Newton's Academy. Due in 12 turns.
Banks going up everywhere. Minor gold per turn deficit is being reduced. Now -2 gold per turn.

(3) 1160AD
Start mining a few mountains. They're great for offsetting over-irrigation until hospitals come around.
A new source of iron appears, near to Steel Town. It's already on our road net. Indeed, I think it's in the same place it started in.

(4) 1170AD
England start Magellan's Voyage.

(5) 1180AD
Iroquis want banking and exchange of World Maps. Sheesh, the AI loves to trade fairly, doesn't it? I exchange territory maps instead.
We get Metallurgy. Since we're at peace, I go for Magnetism to get us to the Industrial Age.
Iroquois start Magellan's Voyage.

(6) 1190AD
Trade Banking for Navigation with Iroquois. Looks like no-one else has a tech we don't have.
Chinese start Magellan's Voyage.

(7) 1200AD
I notice our income is up to 13 per turn.

(8) 1210AD
(9) 1220AD
We get Magnetism - start Steam Power. Great Lighthouse is obsolete.

(10) 1230AD
Japan and India sign a peace treaty.

(11) 1240AD
Greece and India sign a peace treaty.
Iroquois and Egyptions start Magellan's Voyage.
[party] Atlanta completes JS Bach's Cathedral! Woohoo!! [party]

(12) 1250AD
Exchange territory maps with Japan.
Greece declares war on us.
Give territory map to India after they offer yet another unfair world map + tech trade.
WLTKD breaks out all over our empire.

(13) 1255AD
Drop science to 60%. Now running a substantial profit.
Get Military Alliance with Egypt against Greece for 140 gold.
Ghandi wants way too much for an alliance.
We give China iron to declare war on Greece.
Japan goes against Greece for the paltry sum of 50 gold.
[party] Mountain City gets Newton's. [party] Switch to University.
I get a roof on the Royal Palace.

(14) 1260AD
I begin to move workers away from the border with Greece.
Persia exchanges world maps. A fair trade, at last.
Greece kills a few of our city defenders.

(15) 1265AD
Kill the greeks that killed our defenders.
Upgrade some pikes to muskets.
[party] We get Wall Street in Tenochtitlan. [party] Pity I had to spend gold on upgrades, so Wall Street is not operating at it's peak output.

(16) 1270AD
More Greek knights die.
Gold at +124 per turn. Trying to get back to 1000 gold to max out Wall Street.

(17) 1275AD
[party] Elite sword beats a wounded Greek knight and we get a Great Leader [party] He gets to move before the Greek counter attack and makes it past Boston. He should be safe now.
Steam Power learned, Nationalism started.

(18) 1280AD
Begin railroading. We have coal near Hill City, and another unconnected source South of Dye Town.

(19) 1285AD
Great Leader is fortified in Mountain City.
Watch as Japan sends streams of archers into Greece. LMAO!

(20) 1290AD
More railroading started.

A great set of turns!! Two great wonders, one small wonder and a Great Leader. Kudos to the rest of the team for setting this up - I was merely the lucky one who saw it all come to fruition.

Lots of notes:
(1) Great Leader is fortified in Mountain City.
(2) Upgrade units on the Greek front to riflemen once Nationalism has been researched. That should have the Greeks bashing their heads against a brick wall.
(3) I switched cities near the Greek Front to Musketmen and those further away to Knights as they completed their infrastructure projects. Some pikeman to musketman upgrades performed, therefore treasury isn't as healthy as it could be.
(4) Greece declared war on us and I obtained Military Alliances with Japan, Egypt and China. There's about 14 turns left for these to run, so no making peace with the Greek infestation before then.
(5) Priority for next leader is to get a railroad net in place.

Man, it should be my turn ;)

Getting a thin rail net to connect cities is one of my knacks.

It there a theme here with Greece being a pain?

Preturn:
Railroads.. I can do that.. I may suck at luxury management but I can do Railroads :)

Can we trade with anyone else? Seems like we have tons of luxuries but no trades going..
Incense to Egypt for 2gpt, printing press and Tmap
Fur for Wmap and 60 gold? Sure why not... now Egypt is broke

No roads to our neigbour Japan? However it doesnt matter.. they dont have anything to trade.

China has money but we have nothing to trade them (1 gold for Theory of Gravity?? They must be getting it next turn or something..)

The Egyptian world map shows their intrepid explorers have colonized an island far into the sea to the northwest.

1295 AD:
Japan and Iroquois sign a military alliance against Greece!
Our knight at Knossos falls to a Greek attack.

I switch Teno from wealth to knights.

A bunch of workers are building railroads through forests!? We gain no benefit from rails in forests.. only improved land, mines and irrigation. I order them to stop.

1300 AD:
Rome and Greece sign a military alliance against Japan! Uh oh.. WW1.. :)

Greeks kill another of our knights. Our horseman protecting workers manages to stop a greek attack.

The Indians are building Magellins! Why aren't we?
Teno switched to Magellins.

1305 AD:
A Greek knight defeats our horseman and captures 2 workers! Where did they go? I have no idea..

1310 AD:
We finally win a few, killing 2 knights.

1315 AD:
We lose a couple again.. Need some muskets for protection I finally realize..

1320 AD:
The Japanese have better luck against the Greeks. Their archers kill a few Greek units trying to come into our territory. Allies are good!

We complete Nationalizm and start Industrialiation!

1325 AD:
We take Ganges! and take away a source of Saltpeter!

1330 AD:
A cutie pink Chinese Rider is spotted near Knossos!

Knossos is rasied by Japanese bowmen! We are too late..
Greeks have Cavalry!

1335 AD:
We pillage Saltpeter near Herakleia, and kill the Greek cavalry at the cost of 2 knights!

Magnetism for Military Tradition? Sure, if China throws in Democracy.. :D

1340 AD:
Rome and Greece sign a trade embargo against us!

1345 AD:
Pharsalos captured! Many Knights upgraded for 20 gold each.

Rhodes captured with new Cavalry!

1350 AD:
Denver is an American city. It is Greek. It should be ours.

Denver is ours! There are already 2 Aztec citizens? Old American citizens converted to Aztec??? Or our missing 2 workers?

I LIKE Cavalry! :D

1355 AD:
Chinese Riders knock a few defenders out of Argos for us.
Iroquois knights enter our territory!? have to see what they are up to.. I think they are at war with the greeks.. possible long automove..

Industrialization is done, starting Electricity.

Wow, we take Argos and capture 10 workers!

Some Greek cities have Riflemen now.. hard to crack.

It's not that I don't trust the Japanese.. but I upgrade at least one unit in all border cities to Riflemen.

1360 AD:
We capture Herakleia!

1365 AD:
Chicago riots! I send in some entertainers. Same with Hill City, San Fran, Pharsalos, Miami.

Argos flips to Greece

The Iroquois complete Magellins! Maybe should have used the leader for that..

Teno switches to Universal Sufferage.

We take Rhodes and Delphi! Our Army kills a Rifleman in Sparta. We are at the gates of the core Greek empire! 2 more riflemen are taken out by more cavalry. They are pumping out conscripts like crazy i these cities I think.

I think 15 turns is enough for now. I've concentrated on Military, not much infrastructure besides building rail to almost every core city. We are beating on the Greeks pretty bad now. Riflemen will make it much tougher but I've started a few cannon to help out.

Argos needs taking back, and we could get a settler down to the old Knossos city site.

LKendter - Playing
Shdwlord - On Deck
Arizona_Steve
Nanook - skipped until his house is moved into

A look at the Greek empire.. I bet General Lee can take them out completely! :D

We need cash - NOW! I can't believe how many cities still are defended by spearman. Are we the AI? New York is maxed at 12, so I cancel Irrigation. Instead, rails to Chicago.
I switch Teno to factory, then suffarage. Some other cities switch to factory. We are in a land war, so cancel Ironclads for factories. The big human edge is railnet and factories - I want to use it!

I need to find cities to build Herioic Epic, and Military academy!

Our railnet building will really appreciate all of those Greek workers. Hill city and east has nothing! I cancel meaningless rail segments, to concentrate on the thin line to the front. Seattle was connected by rail, but building more toward it? 3 workers freed for the critical segment to St. Louis. Faster troops to the front.

Lot's of rifleman wake up, and move to the front. We need to free up the calvary. Boy is my work cut out here!

Now science - PERFECT :) Heading toward ToE.

Trading - HeHeHe - Greece is already desperate. Still war, for the moment as they won't offer cities.

Iroquois - Gems for $60, $4/t, wm.
Rome - Build a harbor you bozo - we have gems for sale.
Japan - They want Iron and SaltPeter - A real threat here
China - Well I will always buy workers, give them $25. Our pathetic rail net needs help!
[party] Gems / Incense to china from $4 to $26 a turn. Plus 180 gold - can you say unit upgrade?
England - Incense for $160 and $4/t. Gems for $18/t.
All of the extra cash upgrades 4 units. Spearman to rifleman is just so expensive :(
All of the new per turn cash allows switching to 20% luxuries.

I jump Mountain city from several beakers by putting the last gems on line.

 I can't believe DyeTown still isn't connect to the Dyes. I captured that my last round to get us a new luxury! This was one of my big reasons for the American war.

After an eternity, I am ready to hit enter!

ARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGG! China captures Argos.

1370 AD - Total upgrades, $100 for a horseman to Calvary. How was this guy still around?
I realize the critical city - Pharsalos - This is a spare coal city!
I fight the 1hp infantry :satan: that needs 3 more calvary to kill.
I give India Incense for a pathetic $20 - I was right, he is know polite.
Teno begins Universal suffarge - 26 turn eta.

1375 AD - Boston has +8 food, but we are irragting?
Still lots of troop movements.
Rhodes is also important - Spare Iron.
Troop upgardes - 1 spearman. Cash = $1000, exactly.
Trading - Iroqoius world map for $40.
Rome needs - Democracy, talk about a backwards civ.
Persia - They go polite for a free world map
We net $69 just for world map.
Delphi resitance has ended.

1380 AD - Our Greek slaves complete a rail segment, another ordered.
Upgrades - 1 pikeman to rifleman.
Trading - 10 bucks for maps - I guess I have milked that one all I can. China signs a peace treaty with Greece - fine by me. Idiots don't realize the goodies in Greece.
I watch the Iroqoius kill 2 conscript rifleman, but they lost around 6 mounted warriors.

1385 AD - [dance] The moment I was waiting for - Thermopylae drafts down to size 6. The 50% defense bonus is gone. It is a Aztec city now, 2 free workers as a bonus. Begin startving the city.
St. Louis, Chicago, Hill City now on the primary rail net.

To be continued - 1 1/2 hours so far.

1390 AD - The resitance at Therm... ends. Resitance is futile. :scan:
Troops marching on Sparta - away from the river.
Begin research on Medicine. I want ToE.
1395 AD - The work on Teno is completed. ETA is cut by 4 turns for suffarge. Next up Teot, the future home of the military academy - factory eta = 7 turns.
Miami joins the rail net.
First upgrade in a while nets 3 upgrades to rifleman.
 China declares war on the Iroquois. Half there troops are still near Argos!
Somebody killed on unit in Sparta. I love watching half a battle.
1400 AD - Well if I knew Sparta had one defender - I would have attacked sooner. 5 resitors in Sparta - GACK! A good swordsman use - put down resitors.
Well the troops we set near Thessalnocia, renamed to Thess as an Aztec city. Another Coal resource.
BrianJ captured workers earn there worth - Ganges and San Fran on the railnet.
1 spearman is upgraded.
India joins the we hate the Iroqoius club, who cares. That territory would be all 1/1 cities for us. Iroqoius sign a peace treaty with Greece - I wonder why?
New York is on-line with a factory! Heroic Epic in six turns.
The English, Greeks are building Shakespeare????
1405 AD - Resitance ends in Thess.
Total upgrades - a captured catapult to cannon.
Rhodes on the railnet.
Greece offers Free Artistry for Peace - BITE ME!
We are still the only civ with Steam Power. We are getting a hugh production lead.
We could easily go into space this game and win.
Washington looks like a good city for the Military Academy.
Wait a minute, wasn't it me to sent the troops marching here?
Philadelphia factory comes online. Cannon ordered.
Atlanta factory comes online. Colosseum orderded.
Sparta restistance ends. Those swordsman still have value
1410 AD - Athens is know size 9. Drop 3 more you idiot. I am just waiting for the 50% defense bonus to go away.
Goldmine on the railnet.

To be continued ---
Almost 3 hours so far.

Now this is a joke!

Stupid attachment feature

oh, that is a good one :D But I am not sure which is more shocking, that, or seeing that the greeks have contacts that we dont this late in the game
