Babylon Reign

Interesting game, sounds like a real cliff-hanger. I hope you can destroy them before they finish their spaceship.

In answer to your earlier question, yes, if another civ gets a tech before you it is "cheaper" to research. At least Dan from Firaxis says so. ;)

Good luck. Sounds like you had better get to work razing or capturing their cities. I will check in again to see what happens.

Well I took out Moscow, but I see now that it wasn't a Good Idea... my vision and Idea was to take out every city of Russia, and burn them to the ground, with the exception of some few...

But their capital moved to a less good location I think (might be better, I can't remember...)

That's why I took out those Cities on the Island too, I don't want Russia to live when we win this game, I want to personally hang Cathrine like we did with The traitor Silverblade, who traded them fission and almost made them Win.

If Silverblade's Son can make me proud it's for the future to tell!

Well Russia only has 11 Cities left, and they are all on the main land... so they shouldn't be a tough nut to crack!

EDIT: Oh, we have our second posting visitor! Glad you liked the game, keep reading in the future to see how we win, if the Russians can't beat us someway...

Sorry it took me so long but I had to go to a dog training class tonight, anyway I will start my turns now.

(Now Playing

I could do a turn-by-turn report but I'd rather just do a brief summary. It took me 10 1/2 turns but the Russians are gone, we will have to move in and take out the Aztecs or we can go mad and start building settlers like crazy. The Aztecs are primitive and we have a lot of new modern armor that we can use to eliminate the Aztecs. Victory is in sight and I would have never thought we could rebound from the slow start that we had. Also, we completed the UN and researched miniaturization. I should have sued for peace one more time and take all of the techs from the Russians that I could have but I didn't think of it and frankly, with the lead that we have no amount of tech can save the Aztecs.

I would have started on the war with the Aztecs but I figured someone else derserves to finish off this game and I have to go finish some homework (no, not calc.)

Ding, Dong, the Russians are dead!!!

Man, that must have been fun!

I have to admit that I downloaded from Grey Fox's last turn and played on my own to see how I could do. Heck, I figured it was a nice wartime exercise, and if Thiazi and gonzo couldn't play I would already have my turns played.

And in the interest of gameplay, I would have kept my mouth shut regarding strategy or anything that I came across.

I had some interesting things happen, and Thiazi - I was wondering if you saw some of the same things.

1. Grey did a good job in keeping Tblisi as it contained JS Bach's. It actually ended up "flipping" on me twice. In fact, I had several "flips" including Tblisi, Samarra (also a great idea to keep this city with the dyes), and the Magellan's city that I also kept (for some fun I also built some destroyers and had a great 'ol time sinking those highly annoying frigates of theirs). Did you see a lot of flipping?
2. When I took the Russian's second capital, it contained no less than 101 workers!!!!! Was this the case with you as well? What did you do with them? I actually hit SHIFT-A for each one. You should have seen the worker frenzy when the Russians were finally dead - it was pretty humorous.
3. I ended up losing the city of Chegdu. That was a pain, but I took it back pretty quickly. Did the Russians move into that section of our territory with you as well? Funny how instead of trying to mount a counterattack they decided to attack fringe cities instead. Knuckleheads.
4. I actually did make peace for a turn. I was able to get two cities and all of their tech, but the only tech that made a difference really was Space Flight and recycling. Big deal, we now have our choice of winning methods anyway. I just enjoyed watching Catherine grovel. "Why does Babylon spit in our faces?" Because now we CAN!!!
5. Lots of annoying artillery as I'm sure you noticed. I had quite a pack of them (maybe about 20 or so) after a while. They were actually pretty useful in beating up cities that I was going to raze eventually. Fun. Did you end up keeping all of that artillery?
6. I ended up getting two great leaders! I used the first one to build the Intelligence Agency just for the heck of it, and never used the second one. I switched back to Democracy after the Russians were gone, and techs were coming in pretty swiftly so I planned to use it for Apollo or Longevity or something like that. Did you get any leaders?
7. Boy, the Aztecs were a big help weren't they? Wow, thanks for sending all of those longbowmen out to help. Hehehe, silly Aztecs.:crazyeyes

Well, gonzo, I hope your computer is fixed so you can finish this up for all of us. Your choice as to build some cities or just crush the Aztecs and take back those cities that we gave them.

A great job done by all
:goodjob:

I didn't know if we'd be able to pull this one out of the fire, but some clever diplomacy and some foresight in technology and war tactics made it all happen. In fact, this was a game that I consider to be more fun than most - because we did not dominate from start to finish. I think a game has to scare you a bit to make it more fun.

I'll be around for another if there is one. :king:

Did you see a lot of flipping?

I had a lot of our captured cities revert back to the Russians, only to be retaken or razed the next turn, but I didn't have any cities flip our way. That probably had to do with my attacking the border cities right away but eventually I ended up razing several cities, including Samarra.

2. When I took the Russian's second capital, it contained no less than 101 workers!!!!! Was this the case with you as well? What did you do with them? I actually hit SHIFT-A for each one. You should have seen the worker frenzy when the Russians were finally dead - it was pretty humorous.

They easily had over 100 workers and 20 or so artillery, it took me a good ten minutes to assign all of those units.

3. I ended up losing the city of Chegdu. That was a pain, but I took it back pretty quickly. Did the Russians move into that section of our territory with you as well? Funny how instead of trying to mount a counterattack they decided to attack fringe cities instead. Knuckleheads.

Yeah, they took Chegdu twice from me.

I sued for peace for about half a turn and took free artistry and about 6 cities. I should have tried to extort some techs before I wiped them out but I just wanted to finish them off before any more cities reverted.

5. Lots of annoying artillery as I'm sure you noticed. I had quite a pack of them (maybe about 20 or so) after a while. They were actually pretty useful in beating up cities that I was going to raze eventually. Fun. Did you end up keeping all of that artillery?

I tried to use the artillery but it was captured twice and by the time it would have been useful, the city was already captured or destroyed. Life would have been easier if we built a lot of bombers, though I did notice the Russians intercepted almost every raid.

I dind't get any great leaders but then again I was impatient and threw hoardes of tanks at cities.

7. Boy, the Aztecs were a big help weren't they? Wow, thanks for sending all of those longbowmen out to help. Hehehe, silly Aztecs.:crazyeyes

The Aztecs were a big help, I had contemplated taking my full15 turns and destroying them but I just didn't have time last night.

So do you guys think giving the cities to the Aztecs was an effective move? We never really gained their respect but their presence was just enough to keep the Russuans from rolling over us when they had the chance.

I don't know if giving the Cities to the Aztecs were such a great Idea (I know it was I who did it, but it kinda was the team's Idea right?), but as you said Thiazi their presence might have been what made the Russians a little freindlier towards us...

Where is Gonzo by the way? He hasn't posted here for a while and it's his turn right?

I think that the discussions regarding giving the Aztec some cities was based on a possible desperate situation if it looked as thought the Russians were going to build the UN and not allow votes or the Aztecs were going to be too small of a nation to actually get a vote.

I was actually a bit surprised when you did the city-giving thing, but in the end, it may have been a pretty good deal to have done this right away:

1. It gave us another civ that we could at least trade with. Not a whole lot of gold from them, but every little bit helped.
2. There was one less border with the Russians that we needed to worry about. If you think about it, every improvement that went up in those cities, and every military unit used to defend them meant lost cash for us since these cities only contributed a single gold.
3. With fewer borders, less border "issues" with the Russians likely helped us to stay out of a war.
4. As mentioned, the greater Aztec presence likely kept the Russians from destroying the Aztecs themselves. In fact, a while back I went back and experimented on some older turns, and the Russians did that very thing - and then settled more cities in the area as well.

All in all it was a fun game - as it is always fun to "snatch victory from the jaws of defeat".

I hope Silverblade doesn't feel bad about our teasing him. You did a great job - just no more army building for you  :)

Hey, I'm here. I had forgotten to check the auto-email function for this thread for quite some time so I'm here now. Do you guys want me to finish it off for the official win?

Im heading to go finish now. I can't wait to see how far this game has come. How ironic, though, that I now get to finish the Aztec war, which I played a big part in earlier, and was stopped. It'll be fun to see my old buddies fall to the dust.

In 4000BC, the judges stepped off the Babylonian throne and leadership was appointed to a group of people. Let's call them a team. Together, they overcame adversity and stared down defeat even when it appeared inevitable. This group has now come to be known as one person, through oral tradition, but that name still remains hidden unto the ancients. However, searching in the ruins, archaeologists discover a name. It is believed to be the name given to this glorious team of rulers of Babylon. The name is Hammurabi the Magnificient and next to it is a number: 4596. We may never know what these mean, but apparently, they have something in common with the stories of the Babylonian conquest of the world way back in AD 1968. The world may never again know such great leadership, but, in all of this uncertainty, one thing is clear: CIVILIZATION III ROCKS!!!!!!

Well, I just finished killing off the Aztecs. It took 2 turns because of 1 or 2 unexpected riflemen killing Modern Armor. It didn't matter though, because our victory was inevitable. Great game guys!:D:D:D We were named Hammurabi the Magnificent and given a score of 4596. If anyone wants to download and look, they can. Here's the file, it's been fun!

Hail to the Babylonian Empire!!!

We shall rule like no other empire has ruled before!

The meeting starts and the council gathers for their first meeting, with the task to discuss the future of the Babylonian Empire. The council consists of 5 great Babylonian Leaders. They are all descendants of the Leading families of Babylon. Fox of the Grey family, Blade of the Silver family, Ham of the Kev family, Thiazi IV of the Thiazi family and last but not least Gonzo IV of the Gonzolans.

There they are, five blood freinds and sworn pact brothers, on one stool each around the Pentagon table of the Red House in Babylon. A beutiful babylonian female secretary walks around the table giving each of the leaders an envelope with Ground Zero- Data on the situation in the Front.

The intel tells the leaders that the final attacks towards the puny Aztec "so called" civilization is launching this evening, and that there is nothing to worry about because our troops are superior in fire power and skills.

When the leaders are done with their reading and discussing of the matter, Fox raises himself to his two feet and starts talking:

"Now that the world is finally ours, and the memory of our foes wither in the minds of our people. It's time to build an empire to stand the test of time, and honor our forefathers. We are close to fulfill our family's dreams of the perfect civilization, but there are still some things to do. We need to take care of our local problems and the people of our glorious empire. The biggest problem of our empire is the corruption in our most distant cities, the people in those cities have no faith in our empire and many of their inhabitants don't respect the empire as they should and don't think of the empire as their own country... Therefor I have suggested this Idea."

Fox the Grey reveals the cover from the wall, beind it is a map of the World, the Empire in it's hole. The Empire on the map is devided into five larger parts, with each part having their own smaller divisions.

Fox continues:

"These large areas are the Five future provinces of the Babylon empire, that is if you all agree to this Motion, they are all divided into a number of smaller counties. Each of these provinces are to be ruled by one of us, and the counties by a governor selected by the people in the county (represented by let say a city or two in civ3). This area in the northwest, the old Babylonia and Old England are to be ruled by me; Fox the Grey, and this area to the south of New Babylon and Former Aztec is to be ruled by Ham son of Kev, the man who boosted our economy, the area bordering Old England shall be ruled by Blade Von Silver, and the most eastern area of the World and the Great Island shall be ruled by Thiazi IV. This soon to be conquered land in the South, the 'so called' Aztec Country, shall be ruled by Gonzo IV of the Gonzolans. And as you can see the capital and the surrounding area is a province of it's own, and their lyes the capital Babylon and from there is the hole Empire coordinated by us five and all of the governors. We will all meet there and discuss great matters and big topics from time to time."

province.jpg

The four leaders sitting on their respective stools look proud of Fox and theirselves.

Fox continues:

"So what do you think?"

Ham of Kev:

"Astounding, completely Marvelous!"

Blade Von Silver:

"This is great, to honor my family and the Empire of Babylon I shall rebuild the battlegrounds and make our cities shine stronger then the stars!"

Thiazi IV:

"This is a glorious day. It shall be remembered for all eternity and written on the sky for everyone to see! I shall sail to the Great Island first thing tomorrow morning and pick out building ground for our glorious cities..."

Gonzo:

"I will build and rule over these lands, cities, towns and people like the Aztecs would only dream about doing. The world is conquered and the rightoues people of Babylon shall thrive and rule like no other civilization ever could do!"

Ham of Kev:

"These lands of green, these plains, deserts and mountains... they are all part of the Babylonian soul. The water in the oceans and seas, the hills and forests of our land, the people, their work and sweet, it's all there and part of the glorious Empire of Babylon! We shall rule with love and passion to our people, let the Golden Era of Babylon Begin!"

Then Fox the Grey gets the word again:

"You all speak of truth and passion. The Babylonian Empire shall thrive and shun stronger then the sun and all the stars together. It's true, the land, it's hills, mountains, forests, plains, deserts and green green grass are all part of this... this glorious empire. Built like a sand fort, to withstand the power of the almighty ocean and it's grasp. Afraid to be swept away, it fights by constantly rebuilding itself, improving itself, enpowering itself. Learning by it's mistakes, and the mistakes of the foe. Striking back at the foe, when his gaurd is down, taking an advantage of the situation for the good of the only true being. The Babylonian Soul!

Well we all have a long night to comit, let's take a break and have a feast... the dining room should be prepared for us right now!
"

The feast is comitted and the five leaders of Babylon laughs, drink and eat all of them exited about the future and what it might bring.

This story ends here for now. A possible future rewrite and/or addition could be made if someone wants to, or does by themselves...

EDIT: Wow! 5743 characters long post... new record for me!

grey fox mentioned starting another game with this same crew. WHos up for it?

Well here I am, and Yes I would like to start a new game with the same Crew.

What everyone needs to do is post on this thread and answer some of the following questions.

1.) Do you want to play a succession game with the same Team? That is: Grey Fox, Silverblade, Kev, Thiazi and gonzo_for_civ...

2.) Which difficulty would you like the game to be set at? Preferably Monarch or Emperor.

3.) Which Civilization would you like the team to play, and state the reason for your choice.

4.) What type of map would you like to play?

5.) What kind of goal do you think we should aim at? (If you think we should play and see, state that)

6.) What kind of rules do you think we should use, state both those that are a choice in the game, and succession-rules like the NO-RELOAD rule.

7.) On this point you write anything you think is worth mentioning in, anything at all. But things about our next game is prefered.

So go on and think... think real hard. I know I will so you will see my post earliest tomorrow.

1.) Do you want to play a succession game with the same Team? That is: Grey Fox, Silverblade, Kev, Thiazi and gonzo_for_civ...

Sure.

2.) Which difficulty would you like the game to be set at? Preferably Monarch or Emperor.

Monarch.

3.) Which Civilization would you like the team to play, and state the reason for your choice.

Germany because I have not had much of a chance to use them or Persia, because they are scientific and I believe industrious.

4.) What type of map would you like to play?

Archi... Islands but moderately large ones : )

5.) What kind of goal do you think we should aim at? (If you think we should play and see, state that)

Play and see which goal is attainable.

6.) What kind of rules do you think we should use, state both those that are a choice in the game, and succession-rules like the NO-RELOAD rule.

I guess whatever the standard rules are, nothing jumps out as a problem.

7.) On this point you write anything you think is worth mentioning in, anything at all. But things about our next game is prefered.

Well I'm done thinking (I hope)... and I did'nt need til morning.

1.) Hell Yea! I think it would be fun...

2.) I'm not really sure on this one though... I'll let everyone have their say instead... I'm more towards Emperor tough...

3.) Babylon... :) only kidding, No actually I would like to play as the Russians, mostly because I don't want to face them as rivals again, and I have never really played as them.

4.) A Standard or Large. The other settings preferably set on Random, except Barbarians which I would like to be set on rampage (the highest).

5.) Actually, I have never won a Diplomatic Win, so I have to say Diplomatic.

6.)

In-game rules
- All.

Turn submission:
- 24 hours to pick up or pass your turn (post a message saying that you have the game)
- 24 hours to submit after picking up the game

Turn duration:
(I'll play 30 turns to get the game started...)
- 1st round - 20
- 2nd round - 15
- 3rd round+ - 10 to 20 (player discretion)

Game rules:
- No save/reload
- No trainers
- No worker automation before Middle-Ages.
- Post a timeline or story brief with your completed turn.

7.) I really think that everyone should work hard on their stories, and make our game interesting and fun to read aswell!

Well I can't think of anything more at this moment, but I'll post or edit this if I can think of anything...

Nice to be able to post again.

Well done to all - and Grey Fox the Epilogue was terrific! :goodjob:

gonzo- glad to see that your computer is functioning once again.

I would think Monarch would be the preferred level. Given our troubles with the last game, I would think that Emperor may be a bit much.

I have no preference for Civs, but it may be interesting to play as the English if we end up on an Island map. If not they, then I'll play whichever one, though on an island map a civ with an early special unit may not be fun (Persians, Zulus, etc.) as we may not get a chance to use them.

The rules all seem fine to me - and thanks for deciding on the 24 acknowledge and 24 play time frames. It'll be a bit more relaxing that way and some of you others may wish to join other games at the same time.

I'm looking forward to it!

Ok, if we decides to play an Island map I agree that English should be the Civ, never really played them either (I'm currently in a game with them), and I could use to getting used to them. They are the civ in the next GOTM you know?

My suggestion for map then is; Largest Archipelago, Large Map (Lot's of water so...), Everything else Random, except the barbarians.

Do you think I should start a game? I havn't gotten responds from everyone yet, but... bha I wait... I'll contact Silverblade as soon as I can and we'll see what he wants...
